  • followers of Justin Bieber, Madonna, Lady Gaga and other crap like that will most probably find this great music boring because it is beyond their limited musical scope. It is like offering caviar to someone who is used to eat greasy hamburgers, they will not be able to swallow it.

  • Slipknot directed this?

  • this is boring...

  • I like his more recent stuff better. The older he gets, the closer he gets to straight-ahead jazz.

  • just amazing

  • This guy is a musical encyclopedia!

  • Its hard to define whats more ridiculous about him, I just cant say...

  • No one sounds like Frank! Thats why hes so good!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a sweeping...

  • im not gonna lie, he is ugly

  • Best site for these guitar dvds is search web for keyword: GoldmineGuitars

  • MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE......

  • @thkoby lol why?

  • This is incredible! He really sounds like Andy Latimer from Camel. two thumbs up

  • who else can wear tweety bird tshirt and not get bash on Youtube?

  • one of the greatest!

  • Can anyone please tell me if the begining is lydian ? Thanks

  • What an awful piece of music. Frank Gambale is great when he is playing in Vital Information or with Chick Corea but, his solo stuff is cheesy beyond belief.

  • @MrUsedBooks Completely agree.

  • his guitar has an alfa romeo ticket LOL

  • pure beauty, sophistication, taste, and perfection. this is what you get when you combine almost limitless talent with a lifetime's worth of dedication, study, and practice. everytime i hear and see frank play, im in awe at his effortlessness. this man is beyond words. amazing...

  • A lot of shredders are so boring and have nothing to say, whereas Frank just keeps you glued to his great phrasing and lightning runs and arpeggios, plus he puts importance on a good melody to hang everything on.

    He is a true master.

  • @EgoShredder totally, you can tell he puts a good melody before everything. That pop hook that we all love and like, that's why he is so damn listenable. Damn it, he's too good.

  • THIS GUY IS AMAZING!

  • "get some...... sour cream... & onion chips... with some dip man.. some beef jerky, some peanut butter. get some hagen daz ice cream bars gotta have a lot of it! chocolate! gotta have chocolate man! some popcorn! red popcorn... gram crackers!!! gram crackers with marshmellows the little marshmellows the little chocolate marshmellows make some smores maaan!!"

  • love this song man

i laughed when i first saw this

i come back way later only to enjoy it. love the melody. and the solo was crazy

    so smooth so smooth frank

  • What makes a grown man think, today I am gonna wear this smashing pink t-shirt with Tweety from the bugs bunny show on it. And to top it of, and look extremely cool I'll wear these skin thight shining leather pants, and have them as high up the waist as possible.

  • This is so corny and cheesy, theres no way you cant piss yourself laughing while watching this...

  • i'd buy a pink shirt like this, if i could play like him

  • Sweet pink tweety shirt with leather pants?! hahaha. Hell of a guitarist though

  • I had the opportunity to meet him at NAMM this year... He is one cool guy to talk to. He actually wasn't signing autographs or anything I ran into him at Carvin after he was done with his set. Talked to him for about ten minutes. Very humble like Gilbert and Holdsworth whom I've met before too

  • Molto bravo.

  • musical fuck

  • It amusing how viewers react to one the best guitarists in the world. Flip another hamburger.

  • Frank is a great player, no doubt. YOU try to get hired by Chick Corea. Some of his best playing is on the Elektrik Band albums. His own compositions sound like something for a GIT audition. wait a minute.... :)

  • Great playing! But pants have to go.

  • actually this solo is better than the one on Note Worker

  • Everyone has his taste, I don't want to fight with you guys: but I really, REALLY don't understand how is it possible to like Gambale's music. It reminds me something like a cheap soft-porn movie, something to listen with your brain and heart off...

    Ok, I'm sorry!:-)

...But when I saw his shoes at 2:10... oh my God, my mother heard my weird laughing and she was scared!

  • @burlingtonz Go beyond the head... listen to the solo... give me ONE porn flick with that kind of soloing, I'll be a happy wanker

  • Understatement at it's best!

  • hes good but its just too cheesy.... i feel like he should be playing at the academy awards when people get announced and go on stage

  • @MetallicAhead69 That's the only problem I have with Frank. I find his writing to be very cheesy.

  • @MrUsedBooks well he just looks goofy too

  • @MetallicAhead69 Yea, he always wears a wig. I think he is a great when he was playing with Chick Corea but, I don't like his solo stuff.

  • This solo is awesome, the lick around 3:00 is incredible. Plus, he's such a nice guy :)

  • Go Joe Peschi!

  • the semi old amongst us will know that pastel coloured shirts (tucked in), stickers on instruments (and books and cars etc) and everything else you see here about Gambale are typical of the period that this great vid was filmed. i remember watching this around 20 ish years ago and was blown away then and still love it to this day. MONSTER

  • heheheh...yup...kids today think its cool to pierce themselves relentless, look down at the ground alot, dye their hair black, covering one eye of course....of ya...and skinny jeans they borrow from their sister....and let computers do most of the music composing....if ya wanna call it that....

  • heheheh...yup...kids today think its cool to pierce themselves relentless, look down at the ground alot, dye their hair black, covering one eye of course....of ya...and skinny jeans they borrow from their sister....and let computers do most of the music composing....if ya wanna call it that....

  • Master Gambale !

  • yellow guitar fair enough...

but definitely not a pink T shirt tucked into belly button high leather pants.

What is with the stickers on the guitar? who does that to a nice guitar??

  • @Eraj1979 Are you a hairdresser?

  • This is YouTube, the motherfucking fashion police... apparently...

  • @rexasul It's always been the same with Frank. Everyone sees the image first and opens their ears last

  • @Eraj1979 he looks great to me... and sounds wonderful!

  • Haha, wtf is up with his shirt? xD Lovely playing though! ;)

  • гитара класс, была у меня такая

  • listen to this guys song i only hear happiness so why would people hate this! this guy plays amazingly. i was blown away and found a new guitar idol!

  • @Xioaxioa10 Haters are gon' hate. What else could you expect a hater to do? Love? Now that would be a beautiful transformation.

  • @yogithecamel lots of ignorant...thinks rock is everything.....4 x 4....basic scales....and Rum:))

  • @MrCsabaBalogh Yup, don't know shit about 7th chords, tritone substitution, modes or what notes they are even playing haha

  • @Xioaxioa10 His playing sounds more like a pianist or a saxophone, no wonder why those people who only want to hear guitaristic stuff hates it. Sweep is pretty hard to master, it'll sound guitaristic if played sloppy.

  • No, it is not a loaded question. The question is "Please define the word "music"". You claim that "Music is music. You have to have a technical definition to even start exploring music theory." So, what is that definition? assume I'm an alien who has just arrived on the planet, and explain to me what music is.

  • @Prometheus4096 just answer the question.

  • @Prometheus4096 ok. define music, without recourse to swearing, threats and judgements. in addition please define in which ways Gambale "is" music, and in which way Slipknot is not.

  • @Prometheus4096 Now! To further my point, I listen to many genres, Blues, Funk, Soul, R & B, Rock, Metal, Folk, Jazz, Eastern music, Celtic music, Classical music...many many different genres. If you're so conceited and close minded as to think you need to be a theory master to play a fucking instrument your WRONG! All music is "good" to somebody... don't be a fool and open your ears and mind. I'm sick of people like you who claim to KNOW something about music but are just foolish. Grow Up!

  • @Prometheus4096 ALSO, just who the fuck do you think you are? Are you some high and mighty famous guitarist? Or just another adult who's on the internet bothering everyone else? I know many people who believe musicians like Miley Cyrus are "Good Musicians" ....now if they think that...great. If we believe Slipknot is great...so be it, but for you to be so arrogant and high above other forms of MUSIC (THE ART OF EXPRESSION THROUGH SOUND) is just WRONG!

  • @Prometheus4096 Your fucking kidding me right? I get it...Slipknots not for you...but that being said...if you DON'T like it...then stop ragging on them. They're musicians with great talent when it comes to writing. If you think you need "technical definition" to do ANYTHING....your fucking wrong, take a look at Jimmy page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix...among others...NO MUSICAL THEORY KNOWLEDGE...AMAZING PLAYERS! Think before you speak please.

  • @Prometheus4096 id refine that. music either is, or in the case of corporate plastic, is not, music. within that broad spectrum of sounds created willingly and passionately (viz slipknot and gambale) there is room for taste. ie to make a like/dislike judgement.

  • @gtr1359 I'm really curious to see what prometheus4096 wrote but I can't find it anywhere...

  • the style was just impeccable back then.

  • this a man

    like see him play

  • He looks like y friends mom..

  • leather pants...LOL

  • @Prometheus4096 I disagree once again, respectfully of course. Music taste plays a factor in what musicians create. And Mick Thompson of slipknot is into jazz, blues, rock, and of course metal amongst other genres. For example, players like Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix are heavily into blues, and jazz, and rock, and they created GOOD music which appealed to practically everyone. Taste in music is neither illusion nor an excuse.

  • @Prometheus4096 Honestly, i disagree completely. Listen to their music, listen to snuff for example....what the hell do you mean soulless music mercenaries? Give me a fucking break man, no doubt, frank is an amazing musician and player of the guitar. HOWEVER, bands like slipknot have a place as well, they're an amazing band if you actually LISTEN to them. And don't bother responding with a comment like "you have no taste" ....because if i list me influences....you will realize what I mean.

  • @holyswordsmanoffaith im with you brother-love slipknot, love gambale! what's the difference? last time i checked it was all music. right im off to listen to the shadows

  • @holyswordsmanoffaith im with you brother-love slipknot, love gambale! what's the difference? last time i checked it was all music. right im off to listen to the shadows. you'll never convince the biggots tho, dont waste your fingers typing at em

  • @holyswordsmanoffaith im with you brother-love slipknot, love gambale! what's the difference? last time i checked it was all music. right im off to listen to the shadows.

  • STYLIN'.

  • Very talented guitarist, but this music sounds like something you'd hear at the chapter selection screen of a porno DVD.

"hmmmm, I think the blond with big tits is hot...nice phrasing Frank."

  • Is this available in tabs anywhere? cause I would love to learn the scales and shapes he is using.

  • HILARIOUS ,THUNDER FROM DOWN UNDER

  • Directed by mick thompson? Or its another mick thompson

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds like the music you used to hear on Ceefax.

  • I love this... Says pretty much you don't have to just use the minor and major modes. I am so happy someone has the skill to do this.

  • .... wow what a "beautiful" melody

  • Absolutely nothing about this video should work; The shirt, the trousers, the OTT yellow guitar, the terrible song... But somehow.... just somehow... i like it. My god im confused.

  • @TheNelsonGonzalez HAHAHA i feel the same its just odd!

  • @mereneatacubaya Not to pre-judge here, but you sound like another Metal Moron who can "tap" the shit out of the fretboard, but don't know any chords. The Paco (with Al and John) on your favorites list doesn't exonerate you from that category. If you can't improvise over those chords - let alone know what those chords are, I suggest all you smart-ass fools out there to keep your feckless opining to yourself - it only displays your ignorance...

  • @TheNelsonGonzalez - LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • @TheNelsonGonzalez Judging from your commentary; you're not only confused, but musically inept as well lol

  • @trs4ever i bet he wished he had his mullet back now

  • my brother always makes fun of me because when he enters the living room I'm always lying on the couch listening to this tune (and others) from frank's DVDs ... "Oh, is it Frank Gambale?? I didn't know you listened to that..." haha...

  • gambale is great amazing guitarman

    gambale play in all styles

is the best in the world

  • Frankenbale! Minus the bolts in the neck.

  • Frankenbale

  • woooowww thats TRUE EASY PLAYING pick economy .!! lseems simple ..god

  • Anyone as amazing as him skillwise should show it off. I would. It's a different matter if his bandmates don't dig on it, but he's badass. I'm sure he looks back at his dress style with great regret, but I think most of us who live in the 80's do. That's not even a good mullet. It's like half committed.

  • Gambale is a great musician despite his show-off tendencies.

  • his shirt made me lol

  • cool!!!! great guitarist and he also has amazing taste in both his playing and choice of car brands!!(see his sitcker on the geetar!) ALFA ROMEO!!!!!! legend of a guitarist and a true inspiration.. :-)

  • Frank is just god although his look is very special...I know that noone cares

  • this song remember me the nintendo's game "pilotwings"!!!

  • WHAT?!?!?!? NO FUCKIN WAY

  • Dude can definitely rip it up but you have to listen to a lot of cheese before you get there.

  • lol at 0:32 I had no idea Mick Thompson from Slipknot was into fusion! lol

  • @reddracken goddamit lol

  • @reddracken

You didn't know?also besides directing this, he - Mick Thompson was also in charge of Frank's wardrobe.

  • @dmnxCGi HAHAH! Genius comment dude!

  • he looks like fabio de luigi xD hwr, awsome guitarist ;D

  • @SimpathyForMe no way,e's not similar to Fabio at all

  • fuck that is just retarded good playing! so fluent

  • I love Frank Gambale...his playing is tremendous...great lines and wild solos...

  • para mi el mejor guitarrista del muno, gracias por traernos el swit picken frank gambale.

  • i dont like it

  • not only can he shred with so much complexity in terms of notes and intervals, but he has a great groove and bluesiness in his playing

  • Great shred technique, though it's limited in that it excludes tapping and tap-sweeping, but this is incredibly boring and unmusical, in my opinion. The repetition is a turn off. Repetition can work. King Crimson makes good use of it from time to time, but it fails miserably here, I think. The melody is corny, the accompaniment is cheesey -- it's just a bad piece of music by Gambale. Par for the course for most post-1970s fusion, unfortunately.

  • @richcapo King Crimson are the greatest band of all time.

  • @richcapo what do you really need tapping and tap-sweeping for? in terms of being a musician playing music that most ppl like, oh i forgot..in prog metal bands of course.. -.- ok well you can always adapt those techniques in variuos styles but i dont really see the point in that, other than show off, and in my opinion a true musician only supports the feeling of the song..never showing off..

  • @soundtrackfreak Tapping and tap-sweeping gives a unique sound, thats why they do it.

  • @vithaj92 Or in the case of many Metal players - they can't alternate pick like Jazz/Fusion guys like Al Di Meola, McLaughlin or Coryell, so they have to create another avenue to attain that level of speed. Frank is one of my top 4 Fusion players, along with the previously mentioned 3. He does sound extremely fast, but only when sweeping. I'd like to see if Frank could hang with one of the other 3 in an acoustic scenario. On acoustic, you pretty much HAVE to pick all the notes to sound clear.

  • @soundtrackfreak Because tapping & sweeping made possible to play on guitar some very unguitaristic line which make the instrument sounding new and a lot more interesting (Sax line, keyboard line) it also add some more texture (rubato, legato etc) which is a point i think saddly a lot of guitarist tend to forget (that's true for metal and saddly can be extended to prog only a few cares about texture) .

  • @Fleg hmm..i dont think you need tapping to play sax, horn lines..i mean i have never seen a jazzguitarist play tapping licks, they just slide tastefully with their ring fingers (usually) across the frets to get that horn, sax thing, nontheless i bow for michael romeo for what he does and that works great in his music with his tap-sweeping stuff but as an overall musician i recommend to avoid that technique, if you dont want to be labeled as a shredder.

  • @soundtrackfreak I see your point of view but saddly Jazz guitarist just stuck to their role, the guitarist guy, listen to fusion with guys like Allan Holdsworth (best exemple ever) those guy can play those tricky Charlie Parker and other bopper line. I see your point of view but i think because of virtuoso wannabe in Metal band you got distorded view of the technic, allow me this note of irony: when a bluesmen start to bend for the first time, imagine if people react like you

  • @Fleg Why i use the bend technic as an exemple is , here again , to copy the quality singer have to go fluently from one note to another they try to bend those string, which is more fluent than sliding (because of the fret mainly). Did Jazzer bend? No ;) A lot of people can see noon at their door with only the basic and no flashy technic, but here is the problem where is the limit to say this is flashy and this is not? It's sad music today is splitteed that way today.

  • @soundtrackfreak

while i agree with the "not showing off" thing, your view of what is a musician is a little, off... music itself doesn't exist without the musician, the feeling does not belong to the song, it comes from who plays it, and to who listens to it, always in different ways!

it's all subjective... there's no such thing as the "absolute" musician... tapping and tap-sweeping can make it comfortable to some players to play some stuff... while others feel comfortable in other ways

    simple!

  • un grande.

ma quanta erba fumava al tempo?

    minkia è distrutto!:D

  • nice pants nice outfit - what are you wearing?? High wasted leather pants. whats up?

  • too cheese for me

  • 4:15 is the sickest thing ive ever seen.

  • frank gambale i think, makes a yellow guitar look cool.

he kicks so much ass :D

  • This solo is absolutely sick. Maybe I need to start wearing a pinky ring.

  • Sexual movie music ?

  • @poutinechaude ahahahaha

  • I like Gambale as a player and as a person, but this has to be one of the single shittest compositions ever made.

  • @martinmerrywinkle HAHA! That made me laugh for ages!

  • this song is about fucking 5 puckered button poop pipe ripplers and dropping your load and not even caring if she gets a disease

or does he look a fuck alot like anthony hopkins? hahahahha

  • the melodic motive is gay as hell

but the solo at the end is pretty solid

i was like wtf...frank can play?

  • @Utubesuxmycock

    are you stupid man ?

how can a melodic motive be "GAY"

i think you tell others gay because you feel gay...

and if you wanna say franks gay say that his shirt or his haircut is gay, i would go for that before getting into the melodies...

  • you noob

    its a figure of speech

    dumb fuck

    are u even american?

prob not fucking hobo philistine trash

    go play the banjo

  • Love the Alfa sticker. Hope his guitar was more reliable than they are lol.

  • what guitar is that he's using?

If i'm not mistaken is that like the same guitar herman li uses?

  • @alapunk13 it's an Ibanez saber series (Frank Gambale signature model). It came in the yellow, the salmon, and maybe one other fluorescent color too.

  • but isn't that guy from dragonforce also using an S-series guitar? except ofcourse they both have signature models which are customized s-series guitars, though i'm not sure that's why I'm asking :) thanks for the reply :)

  • Ibanez FGM100DY to be exact... It came in this Desert Yellow, Pink Salmon, Blue Sky, and later Black.

  • i getting some Allan Holdsworth influence from this

  • That's the hottest outfit ever

  • i want that shirt...i;ll kill for it!!!!

  • this is too cheezy but ...well frank says its too easy so probably there is a lesson here too
