Oh dear, this is literally my very first exposure to opera; it brings me back all the nostalgia, as it were. At least this got me hooked on it ever since. Then came the Cosi telecast with Vaness again... Anyway, I just remember being blown away by the plush sound of Mattila's voice the moment she opened her mouth. Until then I'd thought "opera singers" were all fat and squeaky loud. Thank you, Karita.
