The volumes refer to earth/rock amounts in the walls of the dams, the number has nothing to do with water storage capacity.

I don't know where you got your math at, but #8, Fort Peck, is a lot bigger than what you note. It's storage capacity 18,687,731 acre-feet, per US Army Corp of Engineers website. One acre-foot is equivalent to 1233.48183755 cubic meters. Do the math, that's a lot more than 96 million. The face of the dam alone is 4 miles wide, and that's the narrowest part of the dam. Compare that with ANY of the dams on this list! Try 23,050,976,773.5 cubic meters; 23 BILLION, not 96 million.

The list of dams in question was not about storage capacity, but rather about dam size by volume. The 96 mil. cu. meter volume of the Fort Peck dam itself is about 76% accurate. That equates to roughly 2.592 bil. cu. ft. in volume. I found a website that indicated the volume was 126 mil. cu. yds, or 3.402 bil. cu. ft. (27 cu. ft = 1 cu. yd.). Hope my math is correct.
