To the person who made this video (@WoodenNickelShorts), tell me this: Would you be alright if everything you tell your doctor, your friends hear; everything you tell your friends, your parents hear? Society survives on exclusion and confidentiality. Social networking IS society these days, and there some things you only tell close friends, and some things you never tell friends. If you don't like it, stay on facebook and be left behind.
I've got my boss, professors, and pastor as friends. Without circles, none of the following would be possible: Complaining about work, bragging about my D+, or priest and rabbi jokes.
Sounds like somebody knows deep down that his Facebook friends don't really like him. He's afraid of losing his long friends list he's worked for and feeling worthless. Lame video. Get a life.
What Google+ will ultimately do is separate the genuine people who want to share interesting things with their friends, from the attention whores who want to broadcast their dull stupid lives to 1000+ 'friends'.
I find it hilarious when people on Facebook have over 500 friends. Ever heard of Dunbar's number?
@jasoneunson in facebook, you could always click "hide posts from (person)" if you don't want to see there stupid broadcasts, so that's not a factor. Google + is lacking a lot of things from facebook, like groups, events, etc... honestly i dont think circles will be used as intended. why would one limit the number of people who can see his post when the whole point of social networking is to share. drunk party pics, fine, but the vast majority of posts are not like that. i do like hangouts thoug
Another point is, you may want to include your Aunt Bertha or your mother-in-law in your social network to share photos of the new baby or videos of kittens being cute for example, but not the same posts you might talk to your peers about so you can choose what you want to share with whom. You can share the same post with all, a few circles, or just one. The point is, YOU get the freedom to choose.
Okay, the thing is, I'm hoping that most people are past the whole "high school" mentality (unless they are of course in high school, and online or not, unfortunately it's just a part of ,um well, being in high school) and they won't get their "feelings hurt" if they' were to find out they were not included in a certain circle. If they are, then I think they may need to spend some time in therapy working on their past issues rather than on a social network. This is just ridiculous.... Grow up!
Circles = Facebook friends list.. YEAH.. pretty much the same concept exclusion is present. I can only be online to people I only care about and be offline to others. Also only view statuses of a selected group of people. It's pretty much the same actually. Some other facebook users are just so dumb not to use that option. sigh...
