Vegetable Gardening : What Items Can I Put in a Compost Pile?

In a suburban setting we don't put any meat or dairy in our compost pile, which is an open one, but we do use eggshells - I rinse and crush the eggshells first, though.

@lkbkr103 Meat attracts rodents and other animals. I wouldn't suggest it. We don't use anything like meat, eggs, or dairy in ours out of concern for rats and stuff coming around.
