how do you het the outside of the stream to light up?? i made a laminar jet and now its like a fiberoptic but you cant see the light on the outside of the stream.....you can only see it when it is hit by the shaker
Great work! Any chance you could post the pump specs? Have you measured the flow rates and pressures? I'm planning on building a laminar nozzle of my own design, much smaller than this one. I'm trying to get an idea of pump size, water flow, and pressure to keep the Reynolds number well inside the laminar range (less than 2000). Thanks!
@ki4hou Naw... same principle as fiber optics but instead of the laser following the fibre optic line its following the line of the water flow. helixing around and bouncing from the edges. just like fibre optics
Hello, I saw many you tubes with the same design flaw in which the water exits the straws and returns to a state of confusion in the head space prior to fighting for the nozzle exit. The water is no longer layered. All these units do give the appearance of laminar flow because of the slow feed but in reality the nozzle needs to be the same size as the packed staws or the straws need to be packed in the shape of the nozzle you have created. Tom
Where is the water flowing to? Is it shooting into a pool? What does the entry point look like? Is it smooth and semi silent compared to a regular hose? How you thought about trying to have the water bounce off of objects, similar to a laser, but with less harsh angles, Or just hitting a perfectly flat surface like a mirror at just the right angle and see if and how the light travels from the impact point - I am blow away by this video and wish I had funds to make my own!
I would love to know what is the basic plumbers name for the Nozzle you used? For $300 this is am amazing set-up these usually go for like $1,500 but like 5 times smaller. It would be great if you can make a "Set by Step" for this, your Laminar Jet is the best on YouTube and i would love to see how to make it.
@CommonRaven I appreciate your advice, but in case you've failed to notice, this is the most viewed Laminar Water Jet video on YouTube and I just posted it a a month ago. My work may not be conventional, but the results speak for themselves:)
@renetto Doesn't mean anything...Your video is poorly filmed and edited. Its also VERY annoying to watch. CommonRaven was right in what he posted, take your head out of your ass and listen to him.
Oh and i shoot still and live for a living, so my experience speaks for itself...
@renetto Well, I see it this way: Lots of clicks do not make a good video. I really appreciated your video, because I find the content interesting, but the filming itself could be better. Just take CommenRavens post as an advice for future videos.
By the way: Just because everyone has a shitty iPhone, doesn't make it a good device... ;-) It's not the quantity, that counts.
@renetto Its just good advice. The video did come across as amateurish on account of the points CommonRaven made, it almost spoils the coolness of the device. That aside, its a nice thing you posted this.
@renetto have you ever wondered if data could travel trouhg the laminar water flow i bet that is possible... I would appreciate your answer and follow up...
@renetto I am confident the success of this video has very little to do with your "unconventional" ability with a camera and has far more to do with your prior internet fame. Speaking of unrelated pieces of information, none of the other laminar water jet videos I've seen are attached to unrelated advertisements either.
Whoa calm your ego. Your head's going to hit some airplanes at this rate.. What a milestone, the most viewed laminar water jet video. Laminar jets aren't mainstream, if it were, your video would surely not be most viewed, the only reason it is, is because of your shit fanbase. Your results are an outcome of you producing terrible, v-blogs with eye-catching/racy images as screen caps. You are no different than anyone else, and highly undeserving.
Have you seen the mythbusters where they try to make a water gun based taser? They failed because of the spacing in the water as it came out, but your device would solve that. You should post a link to this one their site and see if they want to try again using your design.
Dude... whoever built this... could design a fountain with several of these streams and make a fortune doing custom fountains... I can easily see these being used in fancy hotels and Vegas would go gaga over them.
@BillyGoat4x4 he can't, the guy who made the one in vegas already did that. Actually the maker of the water jet made this out of a pvc pipe, straws, and a bucket. He made it when he was in 5th grade as a project for school.
Very cool! Love the high powered LED fiber optic effect. Guess that it is something like a laser but with fluid! Could do the same thing as a waterfall but it is neat to see that it works like that under higher pressure also.
So how high/far will the jet go before it becomes turbulent and turns to spray?
Seriously, what is wrong with all the videos? I am getting pauses for every video I watch. DL speed is like fast then it stops to Download the next 20 seconds. >:[]
@xxblanksxx1 Nothing... you saw the guy with the stream shot into his mouth. Perhaps if someone was really close to the nozzle and thus got hit by the water with the maximum amount of force possible damage could be done.
Ok that was awesome but that camerawork during the interview almost made me vomit... so much panning back and forth back and forth back and forth back and forth

Couple of questions though: how intense are the LEDs? Like normal LED or the laser-LED-you-will-go-blind type?
You say you use tap water under pressure. Do you mean the pressure straight from the tap or via a pump or similar?
