Uhh, it is real... When a cat's tail is puffed, they only do that when they feel threatened. I caught my cats fighting and they would stare down first. some strange odor came out, and my grey cat's left claw was limp and bleeding.

Cat's only play fight when they DON'T meow that loud or have a puffed tail...

My cat's never really "play" fight. That's why I had to give one away to a relative cause they always have bald spots and bloody claws/lips.
