  • @hobatu

I saw the notification and thought. what did I post? 8 months jeez

What I was trying to say was that they've dropped little drones out of bombers that ran out of fuel in a few seconds, woop-de-doo.

People who know what they are talking about, say that scramjets will never become viable for real planes.

Something else may come along that will work, but not scramjets

  • Beautiful beautiful plane!

  • I've read a report that scramjet planes will never happen unless somebody comes up with a completely different fuel.

As they are now, a full-sized plane would require the fuel tanks to be more than 100% of the weight of the aircraft, to give it any kind of usable range.

  • this is what the government has been hiding form us gfor forty yeard

  • the song doesn't fit

  • What did you fly?

  • it going to be in transformers 2

  • Sorry, it's "SR-71 Blackbirds Gone to Roost"

  • Great video, for those who like the SR71 check out this video, "SR71 Gone to Roost" Also, another great SR71 video.

  • Ooh, I still remember me writing a report on the SR-71 in primary school :P

Had this clip a long time, but then got a new hd, nice to see it here as well, thank you.

  • wonder what the chase plane is? Another SR-71 or an F-15

  • anarshall911.. IMHO, this vid was shot around EdwardsA/B,where airframe #955 was based..IMHO ,the chase plane was a T-38 on a"pace chase" mission flying in formation round and about the SR..The T-38 was excellent camera platform (from rear cockpit)..again just my opinion, I would guess that 99 percent of Habu videos, where shot during pace chase of airframe #955 (the Palmdale test Platform based at Edwards)..I know of no vid of a mission deployed SR-71.except(the 3 frames of MD-12 failure vid.

  • hmm propably shouldv'e watched the credits LOL (my other name is JNT11593)

  • can someone tell me the name of this song

  • kenny G, the sound of silence. I have the mp3 if you want it for download. just reply to this message and i'll post a link

  • Is there another plane that can hang with the Blackbird SR-71???

  • The A-12 had a better weight/thrust perforance envelope...the XB-70 Valkyrie had demonstrated supercruise performance up to Mach 3...IMHO, had the XB had been allowed full development it would have been the equal of the A-12 & SR-71..showing 2X the SR's combat range & being 4X the SR's MaxTakeOffWeight ....the SR-71 was fastest by default, with the A-12 decommissioned and the Valkyrie Proto project canceled...

  • May'be the Aurora if it existed or exists??

  • Aurora is a theoretical scramjet craft

I think Russia has perfected scramjet in missiles, but they have not produced any and no one has been able to do it with planes and living humans

SR71 does something similar to ramjet but not scramjet. NASA was doing scamjet research but it failed due to lack of funds when recession started

  • Great video I enjoyed seeing this,I hope to one day get my pilots license and fly a plane.I think it would be an awsome experience. Thanks for this man it's great.,and I like the music too

  • Great Video, I feel pride in AMERICAN Technology that built a fine machine like this... The rendition of Sounds of Silence is appropriate and adds to the visual impact of this super aircraft. I started my Information Technology career in 1966 and remember the early capabilities, so a good part of this plane was probably engineered using slide rules! Thanx for the post. Made my night!

  • The SR-71 was the best plane the US has ever had! A pity it got retired...

  • i wont to hear the plane not this music

  • Function: Very-high-speed, high-altitude Aerial Reconnaissance

    Length: 107 feet 5 inches

    Wingspan: 55 feet 7 inches

    Height: 18 feet 6 inches

    Max takeoff weight: 140,000 pounds

Max Speed: Mach 3.2 above 75,000 feet

Crew: 2 (Pilot and Reconnaissance Systems Operator)

Engines: 2 Pratt & Whitney J-58 engines 34,000 lbs thrust

this thing is awesome! so is the song...

  • Great airplane and the music is just right, but I am a Kenny G fan.

  • Lovely airplane and the music is great but I'm a Kenny G fan.

  • I'll stick with my U2 thank you...good plane though...just watching it sitting on the tarmac is enough to give me goosebumps

  • Nice music, nice plane

  • Decent, but it would've helped to have the original song. Rather than this cheesy version.

  • This is the most sexy airplane ever. Incredible design!!!!

  • one of the little known facts about the SR-71...is that the titanium used to build it...was purchased by a third party enterprise from the Soviet Union...not to mention that certain SR-71 engineering features were used on the Space Shuttle

  • And the landing struts are the largest single billets of Ti to ever be machined...

  • the titanium used on this airframe...was a real problem...they had to learn all new methods of machining...not to mention "Classified" problems...that titanium was much different to work with than aluminum...thanks...

  • I wonder how much one of those is worth just in scrap metal... its almost entirely titanium back in the days titanium was even more expensive

  • Great tribute to a silent hero of the Cold War.

  • Did anyone else turn the sound off during this video. Maybe Kenny G. was flying or Art Garfunkel with Little Paul Simon sitting on his lap. Seriously though, this plane was way ahead of it's time.

  • hey. nice footage. but come on. this is terrible sound. this was one of the most powerful and noisy aircraft to ever fly and you choose not only the sound of silence but a horrible supermarket version of a great tune.. come on dude. give this plane some justice

  • Thats a sexy bitch!

  • Truley remarkable aircraft, cant stand the music though...

    Lt.Col.

    Jim Greenwood

  • Notice at 1:30 and 7:27 when the afterburners are fired ,how the pilot moves the rudders ,to conpensate for thrust vec...good stuff...Thanks

  • Why is it the afterburners were not fired at the same time? Wouldn't that even out the effect?

  • Q."SR-71 Revealed P.157"(After pausing throttles at full Mil.power, the pilot lifted both throttles up&forward into AB range, seldom did both ABs fire simultaneously, creating individual left & right "kicks"of the aircraft)..Thanks

  • the more fastest plane in the world...a silence minute of tribute for it...

  • Well done video...I liked the soundtrack. I thnik it went well with the video and the slilence message fits.

  • im waitin for the next generation!! the penetrador

  • i love it when the afterburners kick in, the sound they make is sweet

  • Gah.. I love the music from the song. but this is some kind of a horn improvision...

  • Loved the video and the soundtrack is very appropos for it.

     good memories.

    The sound of silence.

  • Well guess everyone is entiteld to their opinion, but I think the soundtrack from R988 is way better. This sounds too gay for this aircraft. I know its a tribute, but come on.

  • Hey could you link to a vid with that soundtrack? (I would like to make the comparison myself)

Both are from just before my era.. and as a retirement tribute I think it matches.. especially knowing the Bird's misison profile. Although having the original song would have been as good. I find such horn/saxophone renditions to be more for things like an ending, or a going away/ sadness sort of thing.

  • LOL that's what i think!!!

  • Agree. This is one lousy soundtrack. Welcome on the dance evening in the retirement home.

  • good video but the soundtrack really sucks
