I bought a new couple years ago , never got around to shootin it for one sorry reason or another. Finally got to the range today with some 200 gr cast bullets ( cowboy loads) .
Man is this thing accurate and almost no recoil with them light loads .
Awesome gun , sorry i got into this model so late.
My only 44 magnum in a rifle is a Henry Big Boy. My Marlin 39A 22 LR was my favorite plinking rifle for decades. Marlin does not know how to make a bad rifle. My Henry 44 as my only comparison at the range, shoots very well, is easy to control, and seems reliable after several boxes fed through it as a new gun to me. I am glad you showed this Marlin. I also find I like the 44 special as a handgun cartridge in my Taurus Raging Bull.
nice tried to get my neighbore to trade me on one in 44 mag but his wife wanted cash ruened my deal I now got a 1972 mod 336 in 35 rem wich is a sweet shooter i wand to thump a hog or deer with it perty bad , nice vid,
Love the marlins I had on like your back in the early 80's' wish I had kept it. Got me a Henry 44 mag now & a Rossi 92 .45 Colt . Can't have enough lever actions , LOL.
just a sugesstion Buffalo Bore puts out a very large 44mag+P+, something to consider is to get the rifle rebarreled to a 1 in 20 twist, and even in a short barreled "cowboy" gun you can fire that Bad boy thats what I'm going to be doing. I personally love the Marlin lever action, I'm very comfortable with the power of the gun. I feel more at ease than a ar.
hey brother... great video. just took my first deer with mine. i hear ya on the iron sights. but i went and mounted a burris fullfield II on mine. took my buck at 80-100 after a stalk. heart rate up from the standing my marlin put one right under the ear where i was aiming. great rifle and great video. you obviously do your homework.
I finally shot my 1978 marlin 1894... I made some hot hot deer loads for it... When I shoot my very wimpy cowboy loads that are 44spl, The 44spl shoot 2" higher at 25yrds than the 44mags... Could you tell me why that is??? Thanks marlin bro...
@ls1dragracer Thats interesting, and I honestly do not know the answere to that, lol. I will have to get some 44 special rounds for mine and try it and see if mine does as well
@ls1dragracer The slower velocity of the .44spl allows the muzzle to rise before the bullet exits the barrel. Magnum loads are fast enough to be out of the barrel before recoil causes the muzzle to rise.
I finally found a old one like yours... My question is... I be using the gun to test my Cowboy loads... My bullets i use are win silvertips.. Looks like the tip of the bullet would rest on the primer, Is that a big deal??? I could find some bullets that have a bigger HP, so the primer doesn't get touched... Is there really that much pressure in the tube to be dangerous... Thanks Terry
@ls1dragracer No problem with them resting on the primers, not near enough pressure to set a round off. The rifles have been around along time and I have never heard of on discharging in the magazine tube. Enjoy it my friend, they are great little rifles
Sweet rifle you got there. Only lever action I ever shot was a Winchester 30/30 a friend of mine owns. With the narrow stock it seemed to concentrate the force from the recoil into a nice tight little line on my shoulder, leaving a bruise the following day, fun gun to shoot nonetheless.
@mrpicky510 Thanks brother, I appreciate it. It is alot of fun to shoot, but 44 magnum rounds are not cheap to shoot. I saw your video earlier, ammo is crazy these days, but I think you guys got it worse on the west coast.
@brotherskeepers111 Yeah, I apologize for my use of foul language on that video, in fact I was thinking about reshooting it, however, last night I was kind of getting steamed about how much things have changed and I just let it all fly. I used to get cci blazer for 8.99 @ 50 in .45 acp back in the day at walmart. And I'm not even that old, but maybe I'm out of touch. Anyway had a fun time shooting at the range today, all is good with the pdx1, no problems with it.
Question: While I have a Marlin 30/30, I want a rifle in a revolver caliber.
I own a GP100 in .357 magnum, Blackhawk in .45 Colt and a Super Redhawk in .44 magnum. Which caliber do you suggest. I am leaning toward .44 magnum. Honestly, I would put ghost ring sighs on mine.
@frankgon4 You will not go wrong with either one, either round out of the carbine is packing a punch. I too prefer the power of the 44 magnum, but the 357 is no slouch either. The 357 / 38 barrel is an inch and a half shorter than the 44's, so its make a handy little carbine, and if you run 38 specials in it, it will be cheaper to shoot. But since you already have the redhawk, they would make a great pair with interchangable ammo
top vid BK, very nice example of the 1894 you have there (35 plus years old, geez its in good nick!) love your reveiws cause we get an informative history lesson too =] merry Christmas to you and yours BK stay safe
Had whole bunch of issues w/ my 30-30 jamming up back in the day - sent once to a gunsmith and then back to Marlin. Never functioned right - lemon I guess. Ended up getting rid of it for a Yugo SKS.

I have that same rifle in 44 I've never done any research on these rifles ..That was very interesting now mine does not have the crossbolt safety nor does it have the gold plated trigger or the hooded site so by your rifle I figure its maybe a mid to late 70s but not sure though..very good show and tell..thanks
I just love the lever rifle. There is a special soft spot for it in my heart. I suppose that one is staying in your collection for a long while. Beautiful gun, BK, thanks for showing it off. Stay safe, my friend.
@sabr686 Thanks my brother, yea I grew up with my brother and friends playing cowboys and indians and the lever action toy rifles was always everybodys favorite. Yes sir I hope my boys will enjoy this rifle one day
