Honestly, teachers take this whole homework thing way too far. Homework is meant to be a way for the teacher to make sure you're actually learning. A few minutes per day is plenty, and time should be given at the end of class. It's not meant to be torture, and the stress is just going to make a student's grade worse (stress is really bad for your health, including your brain).

Im in 9th grade and in all honors classes. I have to wakeup between 5:00 am-5:30 am so that i can get to the bus at 6:30 am. Then i have school till 2:14 pm and have to play piano. You need til 10-00 to do your homework and you need 1 hour of computer time. Ask your teachers if you can have a cut on homework that is not hinged on by the lesson.
