Republica was a tragedy. They had a great debut album that was under appreciated by a apathetic US audience. Their second album was mismanaged by a dying record label and was subsequently bought up and wrecked by a US label that just did a "best of" with songs from the debut album. Sadly, Republica eventually disbanded because of the whole mess. The "electronica" scene was squashed by then anyways.

It's a great album. You should definitely pick it up.

Yeah, Saffron is pretty f*****g nuclear! I saw them play in Austin,Texas, summer of '96. It was hotter than the hinges of Hell that night, and Republica cranked it up even hotter! I got to meet them briefly after the show, and they were just as nice as could be. It's too bad they sort of vanished after that- I never even saw their follow-up album offered for sale anywhere.
