hey. I know you uploaded this video a long time ago and I don't know how the things are going with the kids that don't wanna learn english, but I just wanted to give you an advise: be patient, don't quit... and if the kids don't wanna learn you can teach me English... lol
Oh, by the way, you look so cute with the red hat.
the children that are riding the fence will be the hardest ones to reach, but breaking through to them will be all the more rewarding. if you haven't experienced this yet, trust me - there is nothing more gratifying.
having spent a year tutoring part-time in an inner-city school in houston, all i can tell you is to not worry about the ones that have NO INTEREST in learning. it sounds like you've been at it for a while, so i'm sure you know who has ZERO chance of getting with the program. Be sure to attempt the minimum required with them to keep yourself covered, but instead focus your patience and energy on the ones that want to be there and those that are borderline.
one thing you can do is find out what they like to do and try to find some common ground. maybe you can either trick them into learning english through their interests or just build enough rapport to where they eventually will make an effort simply because they respect you.
I have never had a problem with iMovie, but anyway please learn how to backup your macbook or whatever, it's so easy and whenever you have a problem you can just re-install from backup. You just need an external HDD, 1TB Buffalo for about ¥8000?
@zichiart i know what the problem is, it was sorta a stupid mistake on my part. i used to have my computer backed up. i have a TB so, once i get this iMovie problem fixed, i'll back it up again!
I can understand how fustrating it is. I've taught Spanish to kids here in the U.S. and some, like you say, just do not want to learn. Others will cooperate and learn much. You go girl for sticking with them! Things will get better. :)
awww so sorry about the weather :( but it shall pass ne ^^
and I m sorry about the kids not learning English :((( don't know what to tell u (never taught anyone like that:) but maybe some day u'll have better students?? : )
and yaaay for the trip to Korea!!! I got SO many friends there too so I wish I get to visit them some day :) keep your head up girl! and feel free to rant anytime ^_~
Sorry to hear :( I think that is the problem ( not only about English class)what is happening in school thesedays in japan.. You teach them in private school or English shool or.. something??
Today, a customer (he is Japanese) came my work place(English pub),
Suddenly he talked to us and he was like
"I wanna study English!!!!
Foreigners are coming???when???
How much score do you have in toeic test?"
He was obviously crazy, but crazy about English too.
I'd go as far as showing English kids programs and afterwards dissecting the English that was present in some sort of card game. Japanese in the front, English in the back, and they each have a few cards, they work in groups of 4-5 and they have to earn as many cards as possible. How they do this is by showing the japanese, the other pupil has to translate in English, and if they get it right, they get the card.. The one with the most cards left at the end of the lesson gets the reward!
@bleh17 You supervise of course to see they are playing by the rules. It takes a bit of effort to make the cards but after you made them you can reuse them.
I wish you the best of luck with these students, if at times it seems hard to motivate yourself to motivate them to learn.. think about the benefits they will have after learning the language.
Maybe try to find out what kind of Japanese games they like to play, and somehow incorporate english teaching into them? Not sure how well it would work, but it sounds like you've had a tough break... If you can find a format that they like and are familiar with, they'll be more willing to learn...maybe XD
God bless, Yoshimaru. Chin up, things'll pan out with them. ^^
@Kail200X i've asked them what they like. music, games, anything!! they both responded with "i don't really like anything in particular" but in japanese, of course. oh but do i wish they could say that in english!
Its very hard to teach kids when their parents are pushing them. But I think its better not to look at it as a waste. You are making an impact in their life. 応援しています。頑張ってください。
My bf and I went to Okinawa after Christmas, so i can recommend to go on a smaller island! We went to 久米島. BUT the ferry nearly killed us :/ usually i don't become seasick, but that was just hell! If u go somewhere by ferry, try to get a spot inside to lay down!!
and there is a cool hostel in naha. little asia. It's really run-down, but that's it's charm point! but there are more cheap nice hostels!!
@yistgleichmmalxplusb well, my friend has like a million friends in okinawa and he said he'd introduce me to them!! so i'm pretty hyped about that. i'm not sure where they are though....
My Imovie is down to. I did a surface scan and there was an error. I guess Im going to have to reinstall snow leppard os to fix it. Ugh!!!
Yeah kids suck... I worked at the Y in Spring Tx and had a kid that was ocd etc... His parents wanted us to make him do his homework befor he could go to soccer.. THat was hell... I feel for you... Sorry...
@MessiahKuan i'll trade my 2 kids for a high school kid with a bad attitude. at least there, i'm closer with age so i can talk some sense into him...maybe.
That class sounds really frustrating. :( At least you will get a nice long break from them during Spring.. as horrible as that sounds. I hope you get to go to Korea eventually, that would be awesome! Good luck with your exams.
@TokyoBrando it really is. their parents are just forcing them. i wish i knew how to make learning fun, but the games i know require more english than they know. and when they're not willing to learn...*sigh*
thanks =]
i shall beat the wind with my awesome peddling techniques!!!!
