She sings excellently but what are the arm movements all about?

I am grateful for the arm movements when I sit in nosebleed. If she did little nuances with her expression et al, people like me sitting on the upper levels wouldn't be able to see them at all and it would look like she isn't acting.

It's much different in the theater - bigger is better unless it's ridiculous.

She does it for comic effect. It is an opéra comique; you'll find that the rest of this opera has similar physical comedy.

What's the big hoopala here? She over acts wich makes her look quite doofy and stupid rather than simply chomical,she has always over pushed her delicate voice wich has led to what obviously these days sounds *fatigue* and she shares a striking resemblance to Pinochio.

LOL!!! That's hilarious that you say that. Simply because it's the fact that she actually ACTS compared to a lot of opera "stars". What you call "over pushed" is merely an incredible voice. Luckily, her "Pinochio" face is beautiful and if in truth we want to bring up weird looking opera artists, shouldn't we first point at Bartoli (who I love also, so hopefully no one yells at me... I'm a huge Bartoli fan.) But Dessay is likely one of, if not, THE most talented operatic actress on the stage.

juill, i know what you mean, but how can we NOT get excited about her? she probably IS the best singer in our generation. her voice at its worst is better than most other peoples' at their best. Vive Natalie, reine de l'opera!
