  • ...UPDATE - packing tape doesn't like boiling water! The packet reliquified fine, but the liquid was pouring out it as the tape failed...it's in a ziplock until I figure out a better adhesive...(hot glue?!!) Yes, I can just toss it - it was only $5 or 6 to start with...!

  • I LOVE these, and have 6 packets I purchased from Lee Valley Tools (in Canada)...tonight, I had one in my jacket pocket to use later in the evening. When I went to fish it out, I discovered that the plastic cover had split open at the side and there was sodium acetate in my pocket...(wool blend coat, ouch)...I've taped it back up and it's presently boiling in the pot to recharge it - we'll see if it still works...

  • I've bought one today. But how hard I press. It doesn't get hard/warm..

  • Lintworm

  • how much pressure do u have to apply to the disk? cuz i perss pretty hard and it doesnt move, its like ice. and when imelt it back down, it turns into a little but as it cools down it solidifies again, so its like useless, do u have any ideas?

  • ahhh i cant bend it!!!

  • He acts like it's actually so special! "Ready? Here we gooo!!" xD

I have one of these things, all it does is warms up! Jeeezz...

  • Get it for 99p in B&M

  • Why not get a peacock or a john e hand warmer? Those last all day long

  • Buy Heat Wave from amazon instead of EZ Heat. Heat Wave doesn't have the square edges and fits more comfortably in your hands.

  • we used those back in the 90s. I almost forgot they exist.

  • Sodium Acetate is used on potato chips

  • This is just like the one ones I buy for deer hunting. Got them from Hotsnapz.com They sell numerous variety packs that give me a lot of sizes

  • in another way, hand warmers are also called sodium acetate in a sac

  • It contains sodium acetate which works the same way supercooling works. The disk activates by causing a certain crystalline to form which spreads, as the crystals form it heats up, you can make your own by boiling vinegar and baking soda, it does not heat up as much as the store bought ones though.

  • if you leave it out in the open long enough will it go back to liquid

  • how many times can u use them

  • @ VideoHunter13 - You got one fact incorrect: The disc has no relevant magnetic properties. The way it works is the bending of the disc provides a nucleation site.

  • i left mine boiling and forgot about it and it melted and went all black and my whole house filled with plastic fumes

  • This doesn't make any sense. If you need to break that disc to start the reaction, then how do you start the reaction a second time?

  • @steprl Wrap the thing in cloth, boil in water for 10 mins. This would cause the solid form to absorb and store the heat again, which turns it into a liquid.

And you don't break the disc, you simple bend it slightly, whose magnetic properties release a few activated crystals which goes on to activate the rest in a chain reaction.

  • fine keep deleting my comments now will write a blog about it to warn people about this con.

this is a con dont' buy it, it goes solid as a rock and when you boil it it doesn't work, and they are deleteing all the comments i put in their websites because they know i am right.

  • @Flitterfuzz i have one and it goes back when you boil it. maybe the one you got is broken.

  • @Flitterfuzz i just bought one and it works over and over.

  • @Flitterfuzz Supersaturated solution (crystallization-type)

These can be recharged by boiling the heaters and allowing them to cool. Heating of these pads is triggered by snapping a small metal device buried in the pad, which generates nucleation centers that initiate crystallisation. Heat is required to dissolve the salt in its own water of crystallisation and it is this heat that is released when crystallisation is initiated.[3]

  • where do i buy this thing????!?!?!?! i do NOT buy online!!!!! I need a place to buy at a STORE!!! I checked Walmart, Sports authorities, REI, Fred Meyer, Walgreens, WTF!!! Any place where i can buy it!?!!?!?! besides those places i already check?!?!

  • @qx59g What state do you live in? I just got one at Northwoods for $2 in Pinconning MI if you live near there.

  • @laurasautographs i live in Idaho near boise, they should have some since this is quite a cold area but i can't find one, and i don't think have ever seen a place/store called Northwoods either

  • feel free to find ALL sorts of sizes and shapes - hot and cold instant reusable pads. Same exact idea. if you would like to purchase or find their locations please go to the NET website heatinasnap - it is at dot net, not dot com

  • Lol. Corona in the background

  • what store you buy it in

  • OMG they sell this in Korea for 1 dollar on the streets i was there on leave its not gell it sodium something or other you click the metal thing and it "freezes" you boil it to make it back to liquid

  • nice wallpaper

  • that hot ice

  • Dude, thats epic! I'm tired of freezing my ass off when I'm out hunting, camping, biking, climbing, scuba diving, etc. Thanks for the video!

  • @steve625c6 hunting camping biking climbing and what?

  • Yes, Scuba Diving can get very cold. Usually I hop in my Subie and turn on the heated seats afterwards, but a quick warmer like this would help heat up my hands too.

  • @steve625c6 huh sounds like fun

  • where can i buy this?

  • wats with the beer?

  • @jasminrhea210 You can only be drunk to review this...

  • My dad had one like that, it's like 30 years old and still works, it goes solid quite a bit faster than in your video however

  • sodium acetate trihydrate.

you can order it on ebay.

or make some with vinegar and baking soda.

  • make it its called hot ice ry typin how to make hot ice on youtube

  • Just got mine at Dollar Tree!

  • really! thx

  • NICE!

  • is it possible to extract the sodium acetate? You can use this sodium acetate to make hot ice, which i think the ice pack is doing. anyway, can you extract this sodium acetate, im using it for my sciencce project

  • @DAhnter its sodium acetate tetrahydrate or something like that.

  • just mix vinegar and baking soda

  • yea you just cut open the bag but in its solid state so u can get a small crystal of it then you can just microwave the solid "hot ice"

  • If you want HW then just go to the next Megastore. I meen i live in Iceland and they just finished building the store and they have HW

  • You left out the most important part. How long the heat lasts.

  • It was still nicely warm after 20 minutes.

  • same

  • @JuanJohnson i had one about 8 years ago, lasted 4-5 hours for me

  • @julabi He didin't - 1:20

  • @julabi he said around 30minutes.

  • Can you only buy them online? If not what stores hold them? These are really neat! And I'm really cold...

  • I got mine at REI (sporting goods store). Also check EMS, or Amazon (link in the description on the right)

  • @Rainbow9910 You can buy them at chemist shop's

  • how many times can you use that thing?

  • You can reuse them until the plastic bag gives out.

  • is this thing toxic?

  • maybe, but you definitely shouldn't eat it, imagine that expanding in your stomach :P

  • be more effective than coffee tea or a hot chocolate though? :P

  • No, the only two ingredients are; (food grade) sodium acetate and water.

  • I have the same thing but it's pink..........

  • some on were do u buy this

  • Dude, it is sodium acetate. It also has other cool effect, search on you tube about Hot Ice and you can found many sodium acetate fun stuff.

Also, Guess what? You can easily make it with vinegar and baking soda! Cool huh? You can make your own hand warmer! just search on you tube.

  • bending the metal creates nucleation sites for crystals to form in the super saturated soution

  • lol 130o block of ice

  • did you see the electronic version of that one?

  • anyone know if you cut it open and poured it into a glass that it would have the same reaction?

  • yea, it is sodium acetate without going to the trouble of making it. So all you have to do is cut it open and you can boil it to redue it.

  • I remember using some of those in the mid-80's when I would go camping.

  • now can you cut it open and will it work to shape with it like the homeade ones?

  • how do you like reuse it how do you turn it back to a liquid after its crystalized?

  • Watch the video at about 2:35 "you have to wrap it in a cloth and put it in boiling water for about 10 minutes." Super easy.

  • the zippo ones are better

  • @JuanJohnson did u have any problems restarting it after you boiled it for the first time? i got some yesterday and they wont restart

  • its hot ice u can make it urself

  • just sodium acetate in liquid form in a bag

  • Its hot ice if u open bag and touch it it reacts too

  • its not ice. its crystal

  • My dad still has his that he bought for hunting back in the 80's. They haven't changed much.

  • I got mine for a DOLLAR!!!! I'm soooo excited and LOVE IT!!!!

  • how did you get yours for a dollar? I'd love to give them as Christmas gifts to my siblings in Alaska!

  • LMAO nice..

  • u serious?!?

i went to nyc and a lady at bryant park was sellin them for 15 bux!

but they looked supa cute, cuz they had like lil cartoons on them...

  • Those boogers gave me a burn on my left hand :'(

  • The HotSnapZ com website has great prices and a really big selection of hand warmers and large warmers. Awesome products

  • hot ice

  • I used one of these 10 years ago. The heat only lasted 10 mins and after a few recharges that metal disk melted the outside plastic. The damn thing filled my pocket with that crap!

  • ur so full of crap.... the metal disk has no heat in it. its the reaction from the disk making the sodium acetate into a solid.

  • I know it has no heat in it. The reason it melted the plastic is that the microwave made it very hot when recharging and it was touching the plastic.

  • Oh my. Really clever to put something metal in the microwave. I don't belive it says you should do that in the instructions..

  • The one I had was called "magic heat".. and yes, you can either boil it or microwave it per the instructions.

  • wtf are you talking about puting something in the microwave he said put it in cloth in boiling water.

  • It is soudium acetate and water, NOT the "magic" disk burning!

  • i just got one of those today but mine is much smaller and the liquid is red. im gonna make a video of it.

  • how long does it last after its activated? If you just leave it without throwing it in boiling water will it reset eventually or will it be in a perpetual solid state?

  • it will last until put in hot water for i think about 45 mins and itll be ready to use again. until then, it will remain solid and warm.

  • its really sodium acetate disolved in water the reaction is ethnothermal the disk just gives friction heat when flexed you just have to continully disovlve again every use

  • soz i asked "how much is it " before watching the end lol

  • lol how much r those?

  • wicked

  • I've used these types of heat pads from HotSnapZ. They always seem to have a promo running on one of their sizes. Worth checking out.

  • New? I remember using these 20 years ago.

  • i remember using this when i was a boy scout about twenty years ago.

  • Mmmm corona extra

  • i had one a long time ago saw it in our local mall in one of those little stands...wait maybe it was the mall of america idk but i forget where mine went. wasnt the same brand though had less of a bag look to it mine was more clouded looking of a bag

  • I have no idea what he just said...

    So here it is...

The liquid inside is a supersaturated solution of water and sodium acetate.

The metal disk activates a recrystallization reaction by allowing a seeding point from nucleation. Is is an istantaneous reaction and is easily reversable by means of boiling the hand warmer... BOIL ONLY

  • i bought this in winter and it is AWSOME

  • let me say ur video saved my life when i was caved into a snow cave in montreal

i bought the hand warmers and warmed my gooch and i survived

    white power

  • cool how much?

  • 5 bucks each didnt u hear him say it

  • How many times is this reusable?

  • I think its a life time

  • lol i c beer

  • lol your funny and i am not being sarcastic

  • thats so rad, thanks its is nice and helpful i wanna go fine some for snowboarding and such

  • thats awsm!! thanks

  • those are cool. I bought 2 in aldi for £1.30.

  • aldi? amg!@@!!!@

  • That solid is actually sodium acetate

  • Solid acetate could also be bought in powder to make your own hot ice

  • I'll be retailing these.

  • were u get those? that will save me the time of gettin sodium acetate, which isnt expensive but, i kno a kwler thing u can do with that if u cut it open.

  • That's cool I'm gettin some of those next winter

  • thats so awesome XD

  • ther 5 bucks you can get them at walmart and big 5's and dicks sporting goods i think the prices are higher in wally world

  • I used to sit in a heated house and pop these over and over and over and again. Just for the hell of it. I havn't been able to find them in years though. If you squeeze the solid into a mush it gets much hotter. When the disk is clicked it shocks 2 or more molecules into alinement tho start the progression of crystals. Weird thing is that the consistancy has to be exact. Once you cut open the bag, it doesn't work, that first little evaporation throws it off. Nice toy.

  • I'm sorry but I have to disagree. If you cut these open it still works. I know that because we made such an supersaturated liquid ourself in chemistry class. If you pour the liquid into a glass jar and use a glass rod (the ones you use in the lab to stirr a liquid) to scratch the wall of the jar, it will also crystalize. ;)

  • I don't know what to say, I tried just what you are talking about, with the jar, but always without succsess. The packs I had was a pink/orange rubber material, maybe a different solution.

  • hm thats strange.. normal an supersaturated luiquid starts to crystalize if you disturb balance.. hm.. maybe i try this myself if i get my hand on one of these by chance... What I know is that it worked when we made the expirement ourselfs. Don't know, maybe some componend is added th help the crystalisation-process, which won't work any more if its exposed to air. But I find it impressive that you tried it! Thumbs up for that! XD

  • How much is it?

  • coolness

  • i would get some but thats a one time use thing

  • haha how stupid are you ?...he just said its reusable. :D

  • lol i didnt have sound while playin this vid how should i have known that it was reusable.

  • READ THE FUCKING TITLE OF THE VIDEO ?

"EZ Heat reusable hand warmer review"

  • or read that title all i saw was that it was a response video to this other where he freezes his beer instantly, we can do this all day long. i dont care.

  • Sick! That look awesome I should get it.

  • wow, stupid people amuse themselves easily

  • not exactly a new products, but they are really cool

we used to use them in scouts when we went camping in the winter lol

    isn't science grand?

  • BRILLIANT!
