  • @HoodedJumper69 I know what you mean. On the other hand, the lip-synching mainly plagued them in performances during their Songs From The Big Chair tours from what I can see and probably because they were doing so many shows. Somewhere I read that Roland remarked this part of their career was 'like being stuck on a treadmill' because of that. Most likely, their touring for The Hurting and The Seeds Of Love wasn't like this, at least not from my observations.

  • Not live. I love tears for fears but I hate them for not singing live

  • EXCELENTE CANCIÓN OCHENTERA.

  • What a way to start an album with! 'Shout' was the first song on 'Songs from the Big Chair'. It definitely had a bold sound and a universal message.

  • YEAH

    good song the best n.n

  • Look at the smirk on Roland's face at 1:23. That's a sure sign that they're faking it here. :)

  • But the instruments aren't plugged in and Manny's not wearing his headset that keeps his drum machines in sync with the keyboards and guitars.

  • looks like roland is lip-synching

  • no way does he say "working whore", here or on the studio recording. he says working boy.

  • This is what you call music. The 80s was a lot better bk then for it than all the shite u get nowadays like Justin Bieber, Jason Derulo and Chipmunk and all the re mixed crap. What went wrong?

  • Great video. Great song. Definitely not live. His guitar isn't plugged in.

  • This is definitely playback, but still, love the song.

  • just love tff

  • I believe this is playback

  • For all those who are saying it's lip synched watch Roland's throat. This band sounds the same live as they do on track. It's called having a real voice. All those bands today who sound like crap live is because they've electronically enhanced their voice and they can't compete with that live.

  • NO WAY is that live !!! :)

  • this is lip syncing to a T lol

  • you are an idiot if you at you dont at least believe this is lip synced

  • I was lucky enough to see them live that same year... this vid brings back memories. :... )

  • Hey people ... THIS IS LIVE! Just a well produced live version. Go listen to the album version and compare.

  • @kmonster420 lol... no it isn't

  • Definitely not live but a good band just the same.

  • great song! great band of the 80's!

    really miss those days...

  • I like Tears for Fears but does anyone notice that it appears that they may have lip sang that song. Notice how at the very end it fades out when Roland is saying "They really really..." I really like this song.

  • huh, ironic how when he said "in black and White", the video lost color and it was in black and white!

  • 1984 was unique,isn't it ?

  • if these guys just came out with this music today....they would still rule!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Weird. I just came from listening to a great 2006 performance of this same song. I've got to say this video disappointed me. It's still a great song but for all intents and purposes they should have just played the record for the audience. Talk about unplugged!

  • This song reminds me my immemorable golden time in Melbourne where I used to have a great life!!

  • he's sooooo lip syncing but it's still a great song :)

  • Thats not even the start of it. Keyboardist just hamfisting the keys. Nothing plugged in. LOL. Funny thing is that they sound good live.

  • That's messed up. Why wasn't the singer's guitar plugged in?

  • Lo .. Roland doesn't even need to lip sync.. Geez let the man sing.

  • They gave you life

and in return you gave them hell

    as cold as ice

I hope we live to tell the tale

I hope we live to tell the tale.

    I love this song.

  • I dont like it when the song sounds different in concert....I just want to see them...so im happy they were lip syncing..lol

  • Why are you happy that they're lip syncing?

  • @CelesteK Because live music is a farce! Practising for wks just to reproduce something already created in studio. Live performance turns music into a circus act, it's the 'difficulty' of a guitar solo or keyboard part that's admired rather than the emotion & creativity in the finished work. 'Shout' played live you might need 10 people playing different bits. Sequencer or tape, whats the difference? The drums are programed up until 3.25, so why bother playing guitar or singing live?! Great song

  • I was living in Europe in the mid-80s and this song was an enormous hit. Tears for Fears remain one of my favorite all-time bands.

  • lip sync or not, awesome band & song. I loved them so much more back then when they used classic solidbody axes.

  • AWESOME

  • great song, great lyrics, great voice

  • this band made the song and it is better than disturbed hands down they did it better and it is a classic tears for fears song.

  • @icejumpman23 i agree, the tears for fears version is better, the feeling of the song is perfect, compared to disturbeds version which is more of a heavy tune than TFF

  • Comment removed

  • @icejumpman23 Well they should make it better because it's their song. :)

  • rolands guiatar isnt even plugged in lol

  • totally fake there are not even cords in the guitars!!! LAME

  • maybe he jus cba singing lol

  • Lip synced, you can tell cause there's no woman on stage and in the end the music fades instead of stopping suddenly, also volume of his voice doesn't change as he moves away from the mic. Even worse you know its prerecorded because it sounds, 100% like the music video/sound track

  • look if the disturbed version sounds so good go and watch it this is tears for fears and they orignaly made the the song so this song obviously sounds better because some one liked it enough to copy it

  • great band

  • This is definately playback - just the intro is different.

  • Why do you give me thumbs down when I just tell my opinion?!?!?!?!? omg

  • because we think your awesome :)!!

  • great song

  • He doesn't have the voice? It's his song i.e. his lyrics and music. And one of the best known songs of its time, that of which Disturbed has little to do with.

  • no way

  • Everybody should listen to Depeche-enjoy the silence

  • can some one tell me what brand name drum sets are the best and what drum equipnet and books i need i want to learn how to play shout on a drum set i buy i want to buy difrent drum sets

  • Comment removed

  • Great show ! I saw them in West Palm Beach Florida with my now 31 year old daughter and 34 year old son. They were just little children but love TFF just as I do ! They knew all the words back then at a young age. Thank you TFF !!!!!

  • Excellent Song,Excellent Performance.

  • ya dam right , this is what i call REAL MUSIC... REAL instruments ... Real talent

  • Real miming

  • This is a lot better than some of the shit that they're trying to pass off as music nowadays.

  • Depeche`s "Music For Masses" and "Violator" are heavily influenced by TFF`s heavy sound and musical ideas.

  • too bad they're not actually singing live.

  • Love the metalic Linn snare drum sound! Sooo 80's 'crunch beat' - similar to electro

  • yeeahh...amazing song... just i love it...;)))

  • good chido video es mi grupo favorito

  • Good sound!

  • C'mon Ro! Move your hips!!! ;D

  • I love to watch Roland move his hips. L.O.L.

  • Yeah! =) Priceless.

  • Of course I love to watch Curt move his hips too but Roland is just so damned HAWT when he moves his hips.

  • L.M.A.O Oh God Of Mine. You're very correct. I don't know, it's a good feeling. And of course he's so cute and sexy when dancing. Just enjoy seeing him having a wonderful time. It's just so special to appreciate that kind of dance.

  • I suppose great minds think alike. :)

  • Yeah? You certainly have a great mind. =)

  • Thanks. :)

  • Okay you're getting a thumb down from me.

  • nice transition between live and playback

  • playback, certainly

  • It doesn't sound like playback to me. Everything is plugged in.

  • Yeah? I'm not sure, but I believe this is playback, too.

  • omg roland and curt are he ultimate hottness

  • I just got ELAHE this week and it's the most amazing CD I ever had the pleasure of owning. The execution of the songs is great and everything. I certainly hope we get some new material this year because I really need my T.F.F.F. (Tears For Fears Fix.)

  • whats ELAHE?

  • Everybody Loves A Happy Ending.

  • Hey, man. Roland you're preeeetty sexy here, Really. Hey, I'm getting crazy.

Actually, I can't take it anymore.

Will I ever see you, GOSH???

    Still dreaming...

  • Well, I must say that I wouldn't blame you.:) Roland is, indeed, an adorable "ham". I, too, realize he's married, (I respect marriage tremendously), but that doesn't stop me either, from admiring him. Heck, I'd stand in line behind you with my own "wool suit". lol!

Gotta say I always enjoy reading your comments on TFF clips here on YT. They're so refreshing, compared to some of the negative comments I've seen. Example: TFF's "Mad World:Stereo Video Clip". It's not cool to trash TFF.

  • Thank you. I do respect that Roland has his wife Caroline and his sons Raoul and Pascal and that he's extremely happy with her but it doesn't stop me from dreaming.

Yeah, I keep telling these "kids" that Tears For Fears made Mad World popular not Gary Jules.

Curt's voice adds an eerie sort of quality to that song that I like. :)

  • No fancy pyrotechnics. No ultra-strobe light show. No clown makeup on their faces. Just pure talent on stage. I love these guys.

It's nice to hear Roland's English accent when he sings "I'd really love to break your hahht." (I say that affectionately.)

"Let it all out..." TFF rules!

  • And Roland's sexy dancing. :) Although I wouldn't really call what he does dancing. It's more like Roland is moving his hips.

  • Roland's "sexy dancing"? That's cute CelesteK. I don't know if I'd call it "dancing" either. But he does get my attention.

Maybe, I'm too biased to answer this one. I find both Curt and Roland extremely "sexy", even when they're not "moving their hips around". Maybe it's that 'musician' thing? There's just something so "sexy" about very talented musicians. TFF is at the top of that list!

This song just kicks total (sexy) butt. Or should I say "their performance of it" does? :)

  • L.O.L! Roland is certainly a ham in front of the camera. He's still a ham in front of the camera now.

I'm telling you right now if Roland wasn't married already I'd be all over him like a cheap wool suit.

  • They really tear it up here.

  • this was the best moment of T.F.F when Smith and Orzabal didn't had differences between them

  • Post Curt Smith T.F.F. just wasn't my favourite time. I've always thought one wouldn't be as good without the other.

  • i love how disturbed's cover of this song is so hardcore compared to this but this is the original

<3 how music can be contorted

  • naglalaro pako nang sipa nyan kasama ang barkada sa grounds nang roosevelt college sa cainta, paburutan! hehehe.

one of my fave band.. wish they'll have a gig here in pinas. isama narin nila the care at the smiths! tatlo sandaan! hehehe.

  • Wow! Look at Curt's hair! Looking at him now you wouldn't have even known that was the same person.

  • Where was this filmed?

  • Whooah! I've been looking for this great song for over 20 years! At last, I found it!!!

  • lip singing

  • lol

  • il faut qu'il arrête de trop jouer avec leur guitare, ils vont finir par péter les cordes

  • great song one of their best if not the best.

  • wow manny and ian are finaly getting credit

  • ttf sounds good live actually. roland's voice is one of the best i've ever heard <-----

  • have you heard curt smiths!

  • lol..i love them really much..:D but this isn't a "live" performance...roland's guitar isn't even plugged in :D and this is the record version

  • i thought so lol

  • Live or not, this used to be a great video when it was wide screened, instead of this narrow framed, piece of crap.

  • "live"

  • even though TFF performs great on live !!!

  • I agreeeeee! He's not singing this here. Play back all the way. Sounds too perfect and way to much like the record. Yes! Looks like John Cryer.

  • roland looks alot like Jerry Seinfeld.

  • this is a playback i mean he sings to far of microfone

  • I still say he looks like Jon Cryer the actor, aka 2 & 1.2 men, "pretty pink". I love TFF. Who said there wasn't good music from the 80's. Way better than Rap Crap.

  • who minds if it's lip-sync? they're great anyway!

  • This is lip synched however roland especially in the 80's had a bloody brill voice

  • i dont know, I love this band, but watching some live videos, I realize that were NOT brilliant vocalists. It suits what they were doing, but they would the last people I would be thrill to sound like vocalists. My favorite vocalist of all time? pff, easy... Sting and Teddy KC from Jodeci... thanks, bye.

  • Roland has a fabulous voice with a lot of power and range, imho. Curt's is more limited but still good.

  • people..people.....even though it says live on the title...this was meant to be the video clip of the song....they are lip syncing as every artist does till this day on their "music videos"...this wasn't a concert.....

  • I don´t get it!! Not only is he lip synching, but the whole band is ¨lip synching¨ as well!! I don´t understand why the need for this..Limited technology from the 80´s? Bonehead record company decision? Roland looks pissed off.

  • THEY ARE SO HOT THOUGH!!!! when they were younger

  • They should make a law against live lip syching performaces... who would pay to watch someone lip synching, if they knew ahead of time?

  • he is lip synching, it's pretty obvious. kickass version though.

  • ever ever ever FOREVER !!! T F F it's the best !!! (my best music it's amazing)

  • this isn't lip synching he has an awesome voice, the real lip syncher

    is miley cyrus.

  • I second that

  • This isn't live, it's lip synced

  • The beginning of this song is different from what I remember. Were they syncing to a different version of the song or was the beginning live?

  • 1985!

  • man i wish i lived in the 80's

...great music, great laker team..and much more

  • OMG They just sound the same as the music video! Very good!

  • that means they are playbacking.

  • drums are 100% live

  • No they aren't.

  • he's lip syncing

...or else the mic can hear him from like ten feet away

  • They didn't attend Live Aid, cause when they hesitated, Bob Geldoff threatened them saying they would be responsible for the death of 10'000 African children if they didn't show.

  • I agree with you.Tears for fears is one of the finest singer......

  • They definitely one of the best during 80's.

As we still hear their song up to now.that prove it.

  • they are like there music video i love TTF there new one is not very good my opinyin

  • The drummer is Manny Elias. Have you all heard of him? He is one of the most underrated drummers of all time! He played a huge part in TFF's success. His groove in "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" is classic. Manny has also played with Peter Gabriel and Julian Lennon. Do you agree with me?

  • Yeah i totally agree. If you've heard the full version of Mothers Talk with drum solo in the lasr minute and a half, it's a great example of how good he is.

  • Another playback performance =D But who cares :P

  • Tears For Fears very RARELY did any Lip Syncing and when they did it was not by their choice. Tears For Fears is an outstanding live band and do NOT need to Lip Sync.

  • how big a fan are u? i'm trying to catch as many versions of shout as i can, live if possible. if you have any that you're willing to share, i'd love them because i'm writing a music thesis and want to do an arrangement of this.

  • LeT IT ALL OUT!!! 1985 GOODYEAR!!!

  • Although TFF would prefer not to lip sync, in the 80's TV shows like this used to make artists lip sync ALL the time (you should see other TV performances from other bands and they're all lip synced).

I know I've read a lot of interviews of them saying that they hated lip syncing, and one of the reasons why didn't attend the Live Aid in 1986 was because they had lost a backing band member and didn't want to lip sync because of that.

  • thanks for this info, most interesting.

  • this is definalty lip synced. i seen roland sing live many times and never sounded this perfect. you can tell its the studio version, i think that artists should sing live or they arent that talented..

  • If you want the real deal, buy their live DVDs, or search for live videos on here not related to any lame music program in the 80's.

Oh, and, both Roland and Curt sound better if not as perfect as their records live. Just so you know.

  • actually i'm not sure =(

  • ya i think it is cause it sounds exactly like the album song.

  • I hate lipsynched performances.

  • that's def not lipsynched

  • wat jong zijn ze er nog
