@rmarc11 Hi, thanks for the feedback. We've taken measures to insure all future tutorials are presented clearly so there's no distraction. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Justin for all your tutorials! Just wanted to know that I (for one) appreciate all the work that you go to for us less experienced people on Pro Tools. Your tutorials have helped me out a lot! I also respect that mature response that you give to the people who are attacking you. There could be a much more friendly way to say what everyone here has said..but it seems that you are the bigger man. Keep up the good work Winksound!

@rollinfever15 Hey thanks for your question. The attack on a noise gate is the time it takes for the gate to fully open once the signal exceeds the threshold level. In general, you want your attack to be fast, but not too fast that it creates distortion or clicks. Hold is the time that the gate is kept open after the signal level has fallen below the threshold, or the minimum amount of time that the gate will remain open. Let us know if this helps.
An other quick tip (hope the video owners don't mind) open the expander/gate on the track you wish to use it in (as an insert) then just play the track it self. look at the hum/buzz/air/etc artifact that you wish to take out. You will see the db that the noise you wish to take out is. This tells you at what setting your threshold must be set slightly higher. Example if your noise is at -24 db, place your threshold at -22 db. It will gate everything under -22 db but let everything over pass.
@Raindarsus Hello everyone at winksound including myself definitly do not mind any sort of feedback/ideas. We encourage it! It is all about sharing knowledge and getting the conversations started
Hi @electricsleepmusic for sure. We'll get working on a tutorial to help understand how to take full advantage of both types of processors.
An Expander performs the opposite function of a compressor, increasing the dynamic range of the audio signal.
A Gate allows you to clean up audio tracks by cutting out any frequency below the set threshold (great for getting bleed out of acoustic drums tracks and vocal takes).
Wtf? Why the background track. That was not smart sir

Tip: if you give an audio example, take the background music off ;) Good job though.

That music playing through the background is a terrible distraction when trying to listen for the hum at the start.

please delete the background music, it is easier to listen to the audio sample!

Is it possible to show the difference between a noise gate and an expander and show how to use each effectively in a mix?

@WiNKsound... Hello... can the Expander / Gate be used while recording a track, and get the the same results such as gating out earphone bleeds?

Thanks for the feedback guys.
We'll make a note of that to make sure all future tuts.
