  • This is Bear

  • man the pride in his face. totally deserved it

  • 2:19 that's awesome. I wish I could be in that situation one day.

  • fake :D

  • This is Steiner!! Ahu

  • Awesome. Shivers down my spine watching this again. Steiner deserved this through and through!

  • pound for pound that russian guy is pretty damn strong!

  • German power forever.

  • lol i love the way he celebrates after winning gold makes me so happy watching that big bear jumping around in joy

  • this brought a tear to my eye

  • i felt so bad for chigichev, he is so over due for a world or an olympic gold, like cmon, he out snatched reza zadeh!

  • STEINER!!!!

  • i believe he could have done 300kg with that will

  • wow what an emotion! great to watch

  • The russian is a beast !!! He is not a big elephant ! ^^

  • This was one of my favourite moments from 2008.

  • The Russian guy looked so nonchalant. He is like,"Oh, 258 huh? It's nothing but an Olympic gold medal. Whatever, kiss my ass."

  • geiler sieg für deutschland und glückwunsch mathias

  • Bromance at 2:23

  • tears of joy fell down my cheek when Steiner won ;)

  • moments you'll never forget

  • Why Scerbatihs do 257kg when he could have won the gold with only 255?

  • @DBBMino Because Steiner still had one lift left. 255 to beat EG but not really build a lead.

  • The story about Matthias and his wife has brought me to tears several times when I've thought about it, about his loss, his promise to her and what he achieved.

Matthias is the greatest person alive in my book.

  • immer wieder gänsehaut!

  • one word: inspiration!

  • muchas vigas

  • Germany own Russia once again.

  • 2:33 Russian guy: "Oh, well"

  • chigichev is ripped beast! surprisingly ripped for 105+

  • Does being fat help lift more wieght or something cus most of em look fat.

  • @theresidentone to build muscle, and thus strength, you need both a calorie surplus as well as a protein surplus. Usually in sports, efforts are taken during training or just before a competition to cut the resulting fat whilst keeping as much muscle as possible (as losing fat always results in loss of overall muscle)

However there is no upper weight limit to this class so there is no need to lose the fat, so they dont bother and keep as much muscle as possible.

  • @passwordresetisbroke Nice response, makes sense:)

  • @DaVodo0, ow :( sorry I didn't know that. Steiner 4 LIFE :D It takes so much self-control to train after such a loss :( BIG UP

  • wat a beast.. love steiner

  • Steiner could behave a bit human.

  • @wolftch are you kidding me? regardless of the tragedy he experienced, anyone would be that thrilled, excited or emotional for winning a GOLD MEDAL FOR THEIR COUNTRY in the biggest competition in the summer olympic games. if anything, HE IS BEHAVING HUMAN.

  • @jeeperjus, :S dude I made a comment which cancels my previous one.

  • misha koklayev would kick ass if he would start with weight lifting again+

  • @dasboot47 he wasnt strong enough thats why left, hes not going to be better now after strongman training

  • Did Rezazadeh participate on this olimpics??

  • @KarlosPaco33 No Reza Zadeh didn't compete in the 2008 Olympics.

  • idk, but when i watch Steiner at the end, it jus send thrills thru me. i was really happy for him.

  • damn chigishev was doing so good, and he was the "smallest" guy there. steiner jumped up by 10kgs and succeeded which was totally unexpected.

  • chigishev is the man to beat in the future

  • @1967tuncay But he didnt win it so he will forever be a loser.

  • @kooziejr for now you are right. his problem is: he is very good in snatch but not good enough in clean and jerk. to be thebest you have to be strong in clean and jerk. you remember 1996 in atlanta? tschemerkin was the best in clean and jerk

  • Boy,Steiner has an amazing lockout.Chigishev is a beast,It is good to see some animation from the big boys.

  • I've met the great Viktors Scerbathis! He is a legend, huge guy! And I love his technique what an athlete. An Steiner is just the King of weightlifting at this present time! WOW! such strength out of that 258 kg clean Im so pleased for him, he deserved it!

  • TITANES !!!

  • chigishev is the man

  • lol chigishev must have been like "no fucking way is he gonna C&J 258"

  • bkn

  • mathias steiner is the greatest !!!

but thats because he is a german !!!!!

  • @donnomar

talking about Rezazadeh. The man certainly was in a class of his hown, but he lifted 263 NOT 268! And fuck that nazi-terminology ("aryan") btw Steiner hails from Austria, not Germany.

  • Steiner looks like a black bear!

  • Poor Chigishev, should have won!

  • no no he should not have, steiner recently lost his wife in a car crash that year, he had to lift a weight 8kg heavier then his best ever !

steiner won , he deserved it, he had the heart for it, its his well and truely

  • I met steiner while been back home in Tenerife. Him and the rest of the German national team were training in my town this Summer and I have got to say that the guy is apretty top bloke (well they all were)...plus when you see him, you don't really think that you are talking to a man that can lift 258 kilos C+J

I even drank beers and tequila shots with them...though towards the end of the night Matthias sort of wandered off and everyone was looking for him haha

  • @freedomsoldier187 probably the cause of why he went so crazy

  • @freedomsoldier187 no its because he is a german ;D

  • 1kg DIFFERENCE, haha

  • mathias steiner it's my new hero!

  • meine güte is das schön! ich krieg jedes mal wieder gänsehaut!!!

  • @tropica1989

    wirklich

  • Great

  • Fantastic! I have a lot of respect for them all. Both Steiner and Chigishev are awesome - and Chigishev's reaction is really fair here!

  • its Evgeny Chigishev he is AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • In dem moment wo er so befreit schreit krieg ich zumindest übelste gänsehaut... :S

  • I remember watching this bloke, his wife died of cancer only recently before the olympics and he won the gold, and dedicated it to her, it was really good that he won

  • His wife didn't die of cancer she died in a car accident.

  • she died in an car-accident !

  • irritating commetation loL!

  • GOD STEINER IS SOO STRONG!!!

  • they are all "SOO STRONG!!!"

  • look at the snatch, so much speed for such big men

  • i felt so happy fort this guy

  • iv got his autograph :P

    steiner is a true ledgend

  • Matthias Steiner is the man !!!

  • @Kalbsschnitzel1975 kalbsschnitzel. geil :-D ja aber YOU ARE RIGHT :-)

  • Man that looks dangerous

  • evgeny stills remain my hereo and idol..

  • Rezazadeh es el mejor en esa division nadie puede con el...

  • congrats to all the guys, steiner has been through a lot, but when you take emotion out of it, you see just how much better rezazadeh is. that last clean and jerk nearly killed steiner, reza through up more than that with ease

  • wish rezazadeh was there, in 2008, i heard he retired 1 month before the olympics..? weird.. im thinking political

  • Why? What country is he from?

Some time men will give up to save face if they know they can't make it. Not saying that is what happened, but maybe?

  • he is from iran, google it, hossein rezazadeh, or youtube search it. he has world records in olympics in 2000 and 2004. and retired just 1 month before 2008 olympics or he would hav clean sweaped that place.

    He lift 263kg like a toy :)

  • Yeah. I remember him now.

... I don't see how the Iranian government would benefit from him not being in the Olympics and winning. I don't know. I am not convinced "political".

  • Rezazadeh had serious health problems and was not in shape to compete for gold, hardly even medals, on Beijing. Not a sportsman like him would skip the chance for 3rd Olympic gold in row if he thought he had any chance to make it. That doesn't however change the fact that he's still a living legend and one of the all-time best, even though his time on the top now is over.

About Steiner, the way he just forced himself to make the last lift with an enormous effort is very impressive!

  • He doesn't hold the real world records though. He only has his records because the old ones were removed when the weight classes were restructured. His clean and jerk, snatch and total have all been beaten at Olympics during the 80s.

  • Yeah! They were all on a healthy diet of Dianabol back then though!

  • reza would have wiped the floor with these guys. and im by no means saying that these guys arent amazing, but reza was insane. reza though up 263.5 with ease, 258 nearly killed steiner.

  • I do not disagree, but if Reza had started at Beijing these guys would have wiped the floor with him. Theres a reason why he did not compete, which is little training due to injuries. He WAS insane, though.

  • He probably would've if he was in the same shape as 2004. But you have to respect Steiner, he won the olympics, he did +10kg on the last C+J, that is huge.

  • Initially i didnt like Steiner winning Gold as Chigishev is my fav lifter but when i came to know abt story of his wife it really touched me True love never dies ....It was promise given to his dead wife which gave him strength to finish last gold medal wining lift truly awesome

  • congrats Steiner, great lifting.

  • Scerbatihs have soo good technic!

And Chigishev`s pulls are so easy!

    Im Proud!

  • I love him

  • germans ur strong omg

  • good to see a guy who went through so much win........... steiner buried his wife less than a year ago so i was so glad to see him win......... priceless reaction.........

  • the lifter from latvia took to much on his last lift all he needed to take the lead was 255 not 257

  • wow gud lifted

  • lol....amazing reaction.....well done...

  • his reaction, steiner was priceless.....princeless i tell ya

  • Totally!!

  • unpredicted gold medalist!! gold was for his wife
