agree with phil about the donny tourette thing, whole reason that was so funny and the best buzzcock episode was because of donny tourette, he put himself out there to make the show funny and crazy.. and cause bill didnt like him and amstell secretly fancied him, he got the digs.. everyone else that goes on the show, is boring and plays it safe.. if mark was still hosting, Donny wouldve come off really funny..
Jupitus hated Simon because he would not let him keep doing his stock in trade, homophobic humor , the way Lamar did . Yet he stayed on and goes on QI and kisses Stephen Fry's ass. Obviously because no one else wants him on a panel show. I don't know why Fry puts up with his banality. Bill Baily and Sean are were gentlemen and are truly missed.
In Simon's defense, I quite liked the way he handled Donny Tourette. He was being an ass and was so full of himself and there were times when you could literally see him shrinking into his seat after Simon said something to him. My favorite part was when he grabbed his penis and told Simon that's what he thought of him and Simon, without missing a beat, goes 'You think of me, a small penis?"
Amstell's alright, and it greatly amuses me that he was fired from Nickelodeon for being "too sarcastic", but I do wish Lamarr was presenting it instead.
not 100% sure that sean would come back being that his pretty much dropped of the face of the earth the moment his last show went out, he was great i dont dispute but i dont know how he would gel with the new format
google's your friend. he does a radio show on radio 2 and it's pretty damn good. i don't think he cares much about television anymore and that's his own choice to make.
My personal opinion - I thought Lamarr was brilliant - he knew his music - jokes like the "Pete Townsend style-beating" spring to mind, or moments like 'House Of The Rising Sun' with Kenzie... still, Simon is hilarious - he makes it a different show - more focused on taking the mick outta Z-lister celebs - an extension of Popworld. It's still very watchable and funny. They're two different presenters, with two different styles and I am a fan of both for different reasons.
Exactly! They both have their strengths and weaknesses but both very entertaining to watch! I don't get all the simon-dissing as I think he's just as brilliant as Mark but just on very different matters. NMTB is still one of the best shows around, despite Mark's absence.
amstells good but irritates me..hes too fashionable with people i despise! lamarr was nastier, more confident and created a kind of anarchy within the show thats now mostly disappeared in my opinion.
Does anyone feel as though the target market of NMTB has shifted. When Lamarr was host it seemed aimed at a wide range of music fans of all ages really, now it seems to be aimed at teenagers. Simons good, but Mark made the show for me.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, engurland. Instead of being a comedy show, it's turned into a music show with jokes. I stopped watching after the first few Amstell episodes but I caught the beginning of one last night on Dave. They don't even make jokes when introducing the guests anymore! Not that Amstell is very good at that anyway. It's like the job has been given to a presenter rather than a comedian.
Definetly agree with the 'target market' comment. While I understand that some shows need to be reinvented, it seems to be to the detriment of the original spirit: 'wide range of music fans of all ages.'
The last series of NMTB was shocking. Allright, it was the first series without Bill since 2002, but Phil looked bored (especially the Germaine Greer/ James Allen episode) and Amstell was found lacking when it came to holding the show together.
The most popular choice (polled from mates who watch the show and several comments on other pages) appears to be Noel Fielding. He was good when deputising for Bill, but would push the show further into the 'NME reading teens' market they've been courting since Amstell took over.
Also, Mark wasn't afraid to have a go at Phil and Sean/Bill. Simon tends to focus on one or two of the guests, coming across as a bit of a bully. No one was spared with Mark.
Really? I still think Simon is doing great. I loved this weeks episode. That weird Dappy was even really good. Phil seems to have mellowed a bit but I love it when he talks down to the younger panelists. It's cute.
I disagree. I think Mark was Mark and Simon is Simon. Both good and sarky. Love 'em both differently and equally. Mark being older and wiser had a wider knowledge of music than our lovely Simon. They're both fantastic.
Out of all the guest presenters Amstell was the best one to carry on the torch, but Mark Lamarr was so much better. He made the show and I do miss him.
lamarr made buzzcocks cool, amstell apeals to the myspace generation, i have nothing afainst that, it's just that he buzzcocks is now siht to watch. yes, siht!

i hate phill jupitus. I hate his fat stupid arrogant face. I hate the way he spells his stupid name with 2 Ls. I hate the way he is just not funny but calls himself a comedian. He's a festering pustule on the rotten face of modern life.
Surely it makes more sense to spell a shortened version of Phillip with two Ls?? He was actually a really lovely guy, but you're entitled to your opinion...
lol... well, I use 'was' because I met him on 2 consecutive days over a year ago, so he behaved (past tense) really nicely towards us over that period. I was on his radio show the following morning, and this interview was taken the night before when he djed at my club night.
Sorry, I didn't read the help centre, I aoligies, when they appear it might look a little stupid but sorry about that, although they are quite detailed.
I can't possibly imagine how Mark would've dealt with Donny, but I think Simon held his own pretty well considering some of the shit that the wanker got up to in the show.
I'd love to see a show with Simon as host and Mark as a panellist... it'd be an interesting sight to see the roles reversed.
the episode with lamarr and dom masters from the others was fantastic - mark was wonderfully sarcastic!!... i'd have loved to have seen him handle donny tourette!
Same here. Donny would have gotten a taste of his own medicine. Simon couldn't control him and the entire show ended up being about Donny, he was leading everyone on a string.
yeah, i think thats true, but i think the fact he wasn't suppressed earlier, and that it dragged out made it funnier. cos otherwise he might have just shut up and not said anything for the rest of the episode which would've been boring. and amstell still managed to take the piss & make it funny.
it would've been funny to see how lamarr handled him though.

I couldn't disagree more. Insightful? You do know it's a comedy show don't you? He is very witty and has great chemistry will Bill and Phil and often with the guests. No offence intended, but I think you need to chill out a bit.
