agree with phil about the donny tourette thing, whole reason that was so funny and the best buzzcock episode was because of donny tourette, he put himself out there to make the show funny and crazy.. and cause bill didnt like him and amstell secretly fancied him, he got the digs.. everyone else that goes on the show, is boring and plays it safe.. if mark was still hosting, Donny wouldve come off really funny..

Jupitus hated Simon because he would not let him keep doing his stock in trade, homophobic humor , the way Lamar did . Yet he stayed on and goes on QI and kisses Stephen Fry's ass. Obviously because no one else wants him on a panel show. I don't know why Fry puts up with his banality. Bill Baily and Sean are were gentlemen and are truly missed.

In Simon's defense, I quite liked the way he handled Donny Tourette. He was being an ass and was so full of himself and there were times when you could literally see him shrinking into his seat after Simon said something to him. My favorite part was when he grabbed his penis and told Simon that's what he thought of him and Simon, without missing a beat, goes 'You think of me, a small penis?"

My personal opinion - I thought Lamarr was brilliant - he knew his music - jokes like the "Pete Townsend style-beating" spring to mind, or moments like 'House Of The Rising Sun' with Kenzie... still, Simon is hilarious - he makes it a different show - more focused on taking the mick outta Z-lister celebs - an extension of Popworld. It's still very watchable and funny. They're two different presenters, with two different styles and I am a fan of both for different reasons.

Exactly! They both have their strengths and weaknesses but both very entertaining to watch! I don't get all the simon-dissing as I think he's just as brilliant as Mark but just on very different matters. NMTB is still one of the best shows around, despite Mark's absence.

Does anyone feel as though the target market of NMTB has shifted. When Lamarr was host it seemed aimed at a wide range of music fans of all ages really, now it seems to be aimed at teenagers. Simons good, but Mark made the show for me.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, engurland. Instead of being a comedy show, it's turned into a music show with jokes. I stopped watching after the first few Amstell episodes but I caught the beginning of one last night on Dave. They don't even make jokes when introducing the guests anymore! Not that Amstell is very good at that anyway. It's like the job has been given to a presenter rather than a comedian.

Definetly agree with the 'target market' comment. While I understand that some shows need to be reinvented, it seems to be to the detriment of the original spirit: 'wide range of music fans of all ages.'

The last series of NMTB was shocking. Allright, it was the first series without Bill since 2002, but Phil looked bored (especially the Germaine Greer/ James Allen episode) and Amstell was found lacking when it came to holding the show together.

Also, Mark wasn't afraid to have a go at Phil and Sean/Bill. Simon tends to focus on one or two of the guests, coming across as a bit of a bully. No one was spared with Mark.

I disagree. I think Mark was Mark and Simon is Simon. Both good and sarky. Love 'em both differently and equally. Mark being older and wiser had a wider knowledge of music than our lovely Simon. They're both fantastic.
