This is a shameless attempt to get ratings people, this couple are actors, Fox set this up for them to get it wrong, intentionally screwed up their own question, now you guys are stirring up buzz around this show. It's called Marketing. Learn to see the forest through the trees. I have no doubt that a lot of you will now watch this show. Especially since they are bringing these actors back to do it again, I guarantee they win BIG and you might just watch more then right? What a story. D;
Unless one relies upon the technicality that the product originally was sold under the name "Press & Peel" (which would be a stretch even if the category were "brands" instead of "inventions"), it seems clear that "C" was the correct answer. Therefore, the contestants should have lost only $80,000 (not $800,000) on the question.
So does this mean you can call up the couple, tell em what you know, tell them to sue, and send a couple of bucks your way?! YAAA! I suggested the sueing... I deserve somes toooo!
Perhaps the question writer encountered 3M's "30 Years"/"1980–2010" promotional campaign. However, multiple sources, including a December 1984 People article, a December 2010 Financial Times article and the official Post-it Notes Facebook profile, indicate that the product was test-marketed in four cities in 1977, with its national roll-out following in 1980.
Actually the black guy was right. The game show was wrong.
