@MasterBlue3003 after cutting it with the jigsaw, you get the board wet by drowning it for two days, then you put an object below the nose and a weight at the top of it, at that spot where you put your feet on. Wait for it to rock still submerged then take it out to dry (still keeping the objects you put to make the rocker). It needs to get really dry, so keep it several days to dry, then you continue to do what nich said.
He says "marine grade ply wood" Marine plywood has no gaps in the layers that you'll see in standard plywood when you look at the edges. Gaps will let water in and de-laminate the wood layers. , for size just look at the sizes of commercial made skimboards and make the size needed for your weight. Too small will not work!! Shape is not super critical.
For the glue, it is probably and exterior construction glue.
Plastic will slide much better than just wood, and won't ding as easily.
Wow a tool trying to use some tools, good thing you used the plane before the belt sander cuz that belt sander really does a nice job fairing up the edges. and that is not marine grade plywood. Plywood would be the worst thing to use. All GOOD boards are made from medium density foam for the core and wrapped in glass, and or Aramids AKA carbon or kevlar for all you dumbass's.
some hardcore woodboard makers will sand the top middle side of the board to give it rocker, and if you like alot of rocker soak the board overnight then put the nose at an elevated position on something and put weights on where you desire the rocker.
@surfinsven its not normal actually even cheap 20 dollar boards you find at a novelty shop usually has one, but for flat land then its possible it may not have a rocker
after you cut your shape, soak the wood for 1-2 days or until its a little flexible. lay the board on a table with a piece of wood (1-2 inches thick depending on how much of a rocker you want) under the nose. put weight around 12 inches from the nose or use clamps. you may want to use a 2x4 to make the weight even across the board. let it dry for a few days then you're good.
put it in water (kiddie pool) for about 2 days, take it out, put a 2x4 on the nose and a weight about a foot away from the tip. let that dryout like that for about a week and you got your rocker. to get a continuous rocker just do the same thing on the other side at the same time
Nice! Waht is did, to make it better, a heated up te front of the wood, and bended the nose al litte bit, also a *very little* i did bending the sides, but thats just what you want that the board gives for performance... Sorry for language, im dutch:D
You necesary need to have that kind of shape?I searched on the internet and i dindt found something...So I will create my own but i will create the shape by myshelf!I cant wait for the summer to hit the waves! It will be awsesome!
Also... the plastics expert I talked to told me that polystone is near impossible to glue, and he said it should be done in the factory when its made :O
I have been investigating where to get Polystone plastic - here in NZ for a sheet to make one skimboard it cost about $20 more than a brand new skimboard from the shop :( Just for the plastic!! And sourcing marine grade plywood is not so easy either! Are there cheaper alternative that I could use?
you don't have to use marine grade, all marine grade means is that it has all it's voids filled, in the middle and outside plys, itnstead you can get one side good or just construction grade and filled the voids yourself with polysester resin/fill mix. you can uses fiberglass if the plastic is too much.

do you use treated plywood or is it all the same
robrod27 2 years ago
alright so to get rocker.
you cut out the board shape from the plywood.
sand it, perfect it, but dont glue the plastic on yet,
soak it in water in your bath tub for 24 hrs.
then take it out and put the nose end on a brick, and set some weights between the nose and the middle of the board.
let it dry for 3-4 days
