  • I'll believe this if I can see the other pieces

  • @consoler3 You can definitely see the pieces in the end of the video.

  • @KendoPt4 Haha, no that may not be a good idea!

  • @kjonsjewelers Does brand name not matter, or is it just the intrinsic properties of the TC? I got a Triton and there's a bunch of blah on their site about using nickel binders and such.

  • @KendoPt4 It's not about the brand. It's about what the metal is made of. There are no laws on what can be called "Tungsten" or "Tungsten Carbide", so there are all kinds of Tungsten. But the main point is this: Tungsten, in any form or alloy, is brittle. Some are more brittle than others, but they all are fairly breakable, and it's good to keep that in mind. Thank you for your question!

  • Excellent vid. My fiancée and I just purchases all our rings for our May wedding today and he was shocked to hear that the TC rings are so fragile. We bought a Brute Cobalt ring for him at Helzberg and I predict that it will last forever.

  • @MakeupWoot Cobalt Chrome is a newer metal, and it's much more malleable than Tungsten. As such, it's less brittle and can withstand more.

  • @armysniper72 true, there's no telling what that is he has

  • With a lifetime warranty, who cares!

  • @MrJanuary318 True, you don't have to worry too much with a lifetime warranty. We offer a lifetime warranty on all our rings. However, as mentioned previously in the comments here--it's a wedding ring, and you can't "replace" the original ring, all the feelings and life that went with it. Just make sure what you're buying before you buy it.

  • I had one of the $450.00 Triton rings with the carbon fiber inlay and diamond. I had it for less than two weeks. I was cleaning it in the restroom at work. I accidentally dropped it from no more than 3 feet from the ground and it cracked the whole way through it. This video is the honest truth!!!

  • @shrek87camaro Isn't it incredible when you see it first hand? I'm sorry that happened to you. I hope you were able to get a replacement for it. Thank you so much for sharing that story!

  • @kjonsjewelers Thank you for caring, I just wanted people to know your being truthful. I was so upset that something that I thought I could wear the rest of my life and pass down to my son would be destroyed by simply dropping it. I returned it, and showed my jewler the Scott Kay video's. I got a new cobalt bio blu 27 ring and like it allot. So anyone thinking of buyng a junkston carbide ring think twice!!!

  • @shrek87camaro Well you know, also think twice about the cobalt ring. They cannot be sized, so if you're thinking of passing it down, that may or may not be possible. Cobalt is a great metal, though. Much more malleable than tungsten.

  • @kjonsjewelers Actually I looked into this before hand and have found this on many sites. Resizing tungsten and titanium wedding bands is nearly impossible, but Cobalt wedding bands can tolerate slight sizing adjustments without adding or removing any metal. They say like on size up or down is possible. I'm happy that I found a durable ring that wont crack!!!

  • @shrek87camaro True. It can be stretched or "squished" down a bit from its current size. It just can't be cut and soldered the way that a ring normally is.

  • I just did this test to my so called Tungsten ring and it shattered like glass and there is some kind of coating on the outside, i also think companies are lying about the material they are made out of, i think China is making them out of coffee cup grade ceramic and then a coating.

  • @fullautoarmalite Wow, crazy! Yeah, it's pretty brittle. Now, there are ceramic rings that are made--but they should be sold as ceramic. If someone is saying it's Tungsten and it's actually ceramic, that's not right. However, it could seem like ceramic when in fact it's Tungsten. Tungsten should be a bit heavier than ceramic, too.

  • that is not tungsten

  • That was not a true tungsten ring. That was a tungsten powder that is compressed under extreem pressure to make a ring, and YES it WILL break. Try to do that with a REAL tungsten ring aka ( wolframe) it is CNC machined and can withstand up to 150,000 psi. You cant break that.

  • @Armysniper72 and @MegaLiamsi There are many different types of Tungsten metals, but this truly is Tungsten. And you're right, it is a powder that is compressed under extreme pressure. Most people don't know that. Thank you for your comments!

  • SO UNTRUE. Tungsten carbide is compressed powder -it's a cemented carbide. Look it up. It's never a molten metal, so it can't cool to a solid. ANY tungsten carbide ring will break. Look,I found this site that is telling even though they r promoting their own thing: bioblu27.com

  • @mrkylerigby Good point, and that's why we give people the information before they make the decision to wear the ring. Most of the time, people who want a "scratch resistant" ring, it's because they're doing heavy work with their hands, and that is probably when it's most likely to get broken. Unfortunately, most people still believe tungsten is indestructible--which it is not. Thanks again for the comment!

  • @sk8ordiepro Definitely not fake. CBS8 wrote a story about Scott Kay admitting (and substantiating) that Tungsten Carbide was brittle. Google it and check it out. We don't want to try and convince anyone to wear it or not. We just want to let people know the facts and what can possibly happen. That way people can make their own, educated, decisions.

  • having lots of experience with TC cutting tools I can see the potential for breakage and chipping to be very real.. very hard = very brittle..

one time a slip of my grip and a drop of less than an inch onto a cast iron saw table shattered 6 teeth of a $200 saw blade..

  • @MrMeanderthal That's very true. The harder the metal is--and the less it bends--the more susceptible it will be to breaking. Was the saw blade tungsten?

  • @kjonsjewelers yes, C-4 grade.. very hard even for cutting tools

  • @MrMeanderthal Wow, interesting. Well, thank you for your insight.

  • That's fake tungsten does not break that easy

  • @elvisflorian Tungsten is very very resistant to scratching, but it is brittle. It will break if given substantial pressure.

  • You cant replace the vows taken over it. Your standards as a jeweler should be higher.

  • @mrsting636 You're right, you can't replace the vows taken over it, and a wedding ring is a very special piece of jewelry--a memory and a meaning, more than just a piece of metal. That's why we offer many different options in our store, and we make sure our customers know what they're buying before they buy it. We try to let people make the decision for themselves, but using correct information. Thank you for your comment!

  • No this is real tungsten Carbise. TC is a cemented carbide made out of power that is pressed together with melted nickel. This is a very brittle ring. Absolutly not for Bridle !!!

  • @mrsting636 It definitely is Carbide, and you'r eright, it's made out of powder and pressed together. Some people like to use this as bridal rings. However, we would recommend titanium over tungsten, simply because it is so much stronger.

  • its a wedding ring. Dont drop, hammer, file, shoot, or yell at the damn thing. Just wear it and it will be fine. Ive had mine for 4 yrs now and it looks fine, Ive never had it polished and just a paper towel makes it shine great.

  • @The9thstreet Yes, that's the best thing to do. If you have a tungsten ring, don't do anything that would apply too much pressure to it. We just want to make sure our customers know what they're purchasing before they buy it. It is by no means a bad metal--it's used for many different applications. And it will last if you treat it well. Thank you for your insight.

  • Remember: All of our Tungsten and Titanium rings have a lifetime guarantee, so with a small deductible, your ring is covered, even if the ring breaks!
