  • soy beans from whole foods dont work

  • Awesome video Sir!

  • Great instructions. I did this with some lentil's I had just to see if they would germinate. Grew them in my window just to see what they would look like.

  • I am very grateful for this information! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us! The Nature is so generous and abundant and wants to give but our economic system creates scarcity and ignorance. Everything in this world should be just a GIFT - ...knowledge, fruits, vegetables, houses... could be free just like wikipedia is! GIFT ECONOMY could make human humans!

    Thanks once again!

  • I noticed the grocery stores sell celery seeds as a spice in a plastic bag, will they germinate?

  • Im not sure. I have not tried celery seed from the store. Provided they are not heated, roasted, toasted or irriated, they should work. Try some and find out. Let me know if it works.

  • @growingyourgreens Didn't work... ='(

  • What a great idea for seeds. I thought that the stuff in bulk bins where all steril? I will have to try this.

  • Some seeds are sterile and have been parched and/or steamed before selling. Oats is one that comes to mind.

  • I purchase my "seed" potatoes at my local organic store as well; besides supporting organic farming, it's still cheaper than a garden store. And yes, they sprout just fine. Organic food stores are an untapped, and awesome place to buy your gardening seeds. =)

  • I enjoy buying my sunchokes this way too. I use different criteria for picking them wheather im growing or eating them.

  • lol. thats what i do most of the time!!! my local animal feed store has gardening seeds you can buy by the pound too. =D

  • I sent a year working at an Ann Wigmore Living Foods Center and that diet included lots of sprouted beans and peas.. my body never did well with them. John is growing them to fix nitrogen into the soil and, i'd guess also for bio-mass for composting too

  • well..Hannibal Lector sure liked eating fava beans so I would imagine they are edible, lol, of course he liked a little human flesh w/his, hahaha...

John, did u say in one episode u did not like the taste of fava beans? I would want to know how these different beans taste before wasting alot of time planting and growing them.

  • I eat a raw food diet, and im not a big fan of raw beans. I rarely eat any beans. I will enjoy some of my fresh fava beans that we are growing here, as will my friends and gardener, sage who says he loves them cooked!

  • well ive been looking into that raw food diet but have since decided that i will eat as much raw as i can in a day but will still eat cooked food as well..as I like cooked beans of different kinds and I like meat and am sure not eating that raw..but I think that raw food diet is very good..Im not sure how to eat or harvest sprouts..do u just shave off the top of them or do u pull them up by the roots? Also, how do u store them, in the fridge or leave them out?

  • Funny, I just bought a bag of Fava to do this very same thing yesterday. Wondering if you use them for things other than purely a cover/compost crop.. like.. eating?

  • Im using them for cover crop/food. I dont really eat alot of fava beans.. my gardener sage loves them, and friends do. They sell for like $4 a pound here at the farmers markets!

  • I buy in bulk alfalfa seeds, broccoli and daikon seeds for sprout. I'll have to remember to use these for planting. Thanks. :)

  • thanks thats a good idea like your vids.
