Anaheim Kingsmen attempted this in 1969. I have a recording of them performing it at a spring standstill. For the summer show they cut all but the final push, starting at 2:37 of this track.
I am so grateful for you posting this - I went through a time in my youth (high-school, I think?) that I was almost obsessed with this track on this record - you could look at the record and the first rack was almost gray from playing over and over. Loved the chimes, and the bass sax. Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane!
