Horrible rendition! it's played so fast it's almost comical. This goes to prove how important tempi are- if the tempo of a song is altered from what it was intended to be- it ruins it. :(
normally I hate classical music, and the snobby upper class twits that champion it, but as a guitar player I have to admit this is really beautiful, I remember \hearing this as a child in some wine commercial and... just fucking listen to where the change comes in at 0:18 seconds God thats beautiful
@V0r4xX Separating interpretation and composition is an abstract process that we like to rely on. It is quite good a way to proceed, as far as I can judge. But I try not to underestimate the value of interpretation, in regard to the importance of composition. Here I like the composition and I don't like the interpretation. That's a question of personal opinion, and of an opinion it is hard to argue. Let's say that I know and prefer interpretations that use "baroque" original instruments.
@becomepostal I don't understand how you can dislike this interpretation reffering to the instruments. It doesn't matter if the musician uses original or modern instruments, the interpretation is still the same. If you prefer baroque instruments, it's your opinion. But you can't dislike the interpretation because of "wrong" instruments.
I also don't understand why you're talking about separating interpretation and composition while we're separating interpretation and instrumentation?
As far as I'm concerned, I prefer to "say" that the choice of instruments is one part of interpretation. Of course, the way the musicians play is another part of interpretation. But this is just a question of word.
Let's say that the choice of instruments is not a part of interpretation, if you prefer.
I separate interpretation and composition, because I want to state clearly that I love this music, as far as composition is concerned. Not this recording.
I like this but I don't think it is very close to the original. The strings sound a bit too slushy. My favourite recording by far is the one with Los Romeros with The Academy of St Martins in the fields, with Iona Brown conducting. It has recently been re-released as a budget CD on Philips, Cat. No. 464 013-2
Like this, they have used guitars in place of lutes, but the effect is wonderful.
This was originally written for Lute not Guitar similar sound but I Prefer the deeper sound of the lute, still it's beautiful music. and to think this was written almost 300 years a go thank goodness for those who like to keep things saved for future generations other wise we would not be enjoying it now.
@geekbaritone You might have already known this, but your comment is slightly ironic lol. Vivaldi was REDISCOVERED years after his time by the students of none other then JS Bach. They were religiously looking for Bach's scripts and found notations by Bach with Vivaldi written on them as Bach was influenced by the Venetian composer. Vivaldi has sort of risen and fallen in popularity, but thanks to the internet and digital media, he's probably here to stay...
I think something got removed from your original message. Please could you just look at the CD and post which arrangement, conductor and orchestra etc the 2nd movement is on this recording is and perhaps I will be able to get hold of it from a music shop.
Thank you for coming back to me on this. I am after the one track for my wedding. Would you know if you can get hold of this without buying all 5 CD's? I have bought a couple of other versions, but when i got them home, they are much slower than this particular one!
It was also the intro music to the "CBS Morning News with John Hart" from 1969-1972, during which they would show scenes of sunrise somewhere in America. Back when CBS was run by cultured gentlemen.
George Delarue, a French composer took this piece and incorporated it into a Bright Jazz Score for a Movie called "A Little Romance" (1978). Many people, including me, consider one of the most movie scores ever written. Magnificent!
@dilbert250 oh yeah? as far as i know, vivaldi is a baroque composer. in baroque era, there was no spanish guitar, whatsoever. and this a mandolin concerto, just look for it
try to make your facts straight before insulting people
This is my favorite piece by the great Vivaldi-I first heard it many years ago as a little girl when I saw a film by then-child star Diane Lane "A Little Romance". It still brings me to tears. ♥
@bongkung I would not doubt it. I'd say Bach, Pachelbel, and Beethoven may have had a few sessions with THE MAN HIMSELF a few times in their lives. ♪♫

You can rate this piece as it is, but the instrumentation is another case.
