  • Nice Video!

  • Great instructional video. Very good of you to share. Thanks so much.

  • so wer did you get the bamboo tubes???

  • K3vindust- Merry Christmas din po! Kung meron po na black rice at jasmine or any other rice, try nyo po i grind iyon. Just make sure powerful ang blender nyo. I think you can do away without the glutinous rice. On the otherhand, i saw one who made it with glutinous rice, colored it purple, made it like bilo bilo and then steamed it inside banana leaves. It might do specially if youre craving. Merry Christmas!

  • Benn waiting for this tutorial since last year, gumawa ako pero palpak dahil dito sa europe walang mabiling glutinose rice na buo pa,it is already powdered at durog na durog so when you steam, hindi naluluto yung loob, thank you so much for sharing,Merry Christmas..

  • Ang hirap gawin, bili nlng ako for this christmas. :D

  • Gaficial27- kung banana leaves, check mo after 15-20 minutes. Goodluck! Merry Christmas!

  • thx for sharing cookingmama

:D this is really big help esp now nkakamiss ang puto bbong lalo na dito s U.S. question lang po? kung gagamitin ko banana leaves for regular steamer...how long to cook it? thx again & merry xmas in advance :D

:) nice video sis! :)

  • @statsoflib- Thanks! I got the bamboos and the steamer from Divisoria. Yes, it is a special kind of steamer. You know, i tried just wrapping the mixture into the banana leaves and steam it using a regular steamer. When its done, I just cut it and shape it into cylinders. I guess the difference in taste is very subtle. It has more of the banana leaves infused flavor rather than the earthy, bamboo flavor. So, I guess, if you do it this way, a regular steamer will work just fine.

  • Hi great video! Just wanted to ask where you got your bamboo from and what kind of steamer did you use. Because if I remember it correctly they use a specific type of steamer. Would a regular steamer work? Thanks

  • It is upsetting how I try to find recipes on how to make Filipino food at home, but instead I find people bitching about what they don't like about videos. Why waste your time watching the whole thing if you didn't like the way she talked? All the negativity oozing out of peoples mouths, I guess that's why they call it 'crab mentality'. I just gotta say, this was a cooking post, not a language nor a grammar video. So take a chill pill. Great job btw cookingmama76, hope I can do this myself!

  • @kasoogreen- you sure can!

  • hello po! Can I use some parts of your video for my school project? Part of my film project is a how-to on making puto-bumbong. I will definitely acknowledge you on the film. Thank you so much!

  • Freakin awesome. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Thanks a lot for the very important info.. thanks for taking your time in sharing.. I have tried some few times and I will try the way you do it.. Good job!

  • I'm sure it's all worth it!

  • Holy god, that's a lot of work! I just keep making my bico.Good job!

  • Thanks Bob! Im also a newbie. I found out, making this takes a lot of practice and trial and error. Goodluck on making the steamer. Let us know if the steamer that youre going to make is a success, Im sure there are others who might be interested to buy one from you! Ill try to post the bibingka soon, hopefully, before thanksgiving.

  • oh, do you know how to cook bibingka galapong also? hope you can share it too. thanks

  • hi,ang galing mo naman,,,i've been wanting to cook puto bumbong here in arizona, but i never know how to do the violet p.b. mixture., i watch several youtube video about it but they only show how to cook it but doesn't wanna share the recipe...thanks! i will buy those ingredients this weekend when i go to the asian market.,i'll make my own p.b. steamer.,i'm a welder and i have the materials.--bob

  • @kidsbc- also, i found a "shortcut". Once I have the mixture, I just roll and shape it like bumbong, and place it inside the banana leaves and steam it, omitting the process of cooking it inside the bamboo. You can try that too if youdont have the bamboo.

  • Thanks cookingmama76.

  • @kidsbc- i think the soaking is essential. What it does is it softens the rice, therefore it will easily be cooked during the steaming process. And also for the flavor. Puto, has that slightly femented taste to it. If you dont have Blendtec, make sure you grind it as fine as possible. Drain and dry it. But careful not to spoil the rice. Your final mixture should be very light and airy and not dense and wet. Otherwise, youll have a hard time cooking it. I hope it works!!

  • Same question as buenaventura43, do you need to still soak with water? Can you not use the blendtec to make the flour? You can actually adjust the texture of the rice, ie coarse or fine.

  • it's like a poop when it came out. imfao

  • what the fuck

  • wew. anu to? bat nag eenglish yun host? dapat nag pipilipino.

  • Hi sashacross2003 1. Iyong bamboo tubes, inuwi ko from the Philippines. Tapos hugasan with the use of baby bottle cleaner. Goodluck! Trial and error din ito, dont be discouraged. ang secret ay nasa mixture. kailangan dry at pino.

  • @cookingmama76 so, kaya mo ibinabad overnight so as to soften then it will be easy to grind......how about grinding it dry with a different kind of machine. will that work out?

  • hello po! would like to ask po sana where can i buy the bamboo tubes to be used bcoz me and my daughter will do this together this summer. and also, ung parirutong po ba is malagkit un?

    thanx po cookingmama

  • Thanks for the vid. Is kind of reassuring that someone else in the us has made it. But two questions. Where did you get your cooker with the bamboo and also do you think the bamboo give it any flavor? Because otherwise I was just thinking of making it out of ceramic material.

  • this video is such a great help...eto na ata ang the best tutorial on how to make puto bumbong....God bless...and thank you so much for sharing!!!!=)

  • Thank you so much cookingmama76 for sharing this! I've always wondered how to make the dried purple galapong.

  • OMG.. Ur such a blessing. I was looking for a video for this recipe a long time ago. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Hi chariserv. This is indeed a special treat. For I think, not many do it this way specially if you are abroad. For the temp. Its just like boiling water from a kettle, once steady and strong steam comes out of the steamer, its ready. I was told to really secure the sides of the steamer holes so steam is concentrated inside the tubes. Putting the rice inside the tubes, and the amount of steam is I think the key to fast cooking time around 5-8 min each. It takes a lot of practice! Goodluck!

  • I've never made this before, but I really wanna prepare something special for my family. What's the temperature you used to steam it? And how long does it take?

And I'll also try looking for bamboo tubes at Home Depot... Good idea.

BTW thanks so much for the upload and Happy Holidays!

  • @sharls514- I got the tubes as well as the steamer, from Manila. But I suppose you can make the bamboo tubes by cutting young bamboos that you can get from a landsacape and gardening shops or Home depot?..Just an idea.

  • Where did you Get The Bamboo Tubes? Here In the Us They Dont Have Here

  • thank you for posting this!! haha we're going to make one for christmas!

  • finally! thanks cooking mama pls post more

  • @ourtrip0312- I got this recipe from friends, family tradition and online research. That's really one of the problem making it "authentic" (if it is?) Do you have any idea how to cut the time? All the recipes Ive seen calls for the soaking of the rice for at least 8 hrs. If you know any short cut version, let me know so I can try it and compare. Thanks!

  • that's too much work! just for the preparation alone you'll spend more than 16 hours in total

  • @cookingmama76 you didn't do anything wrong, dear. You don't have to apologize. Just don't mind other people who are giving a hard time. Maybe they're not that fluent as you are, or maybe they're just jealous because you can cook a very mouth-watering dish.
