Fun fact: The A&M drill team is composed entirely of freshmen and has a 100% turnover every year...they still win the national championship every year...

@jmr1068204 Nobody HAS to do this. A few members of the armed forces and ROTC units choose to do this as an extracurricular activity. It does instill discipline, and it's fun to boot.
As someone who was part of this team, let me clear a couple things up.
1. The uniforms you see were provided by the production's wardrobe dept. (Including pants and chloroframs) Anything inaccurate about the pants rests on wardrobe's shoulders. We didn't bring our own "Aggie" pants. The A&M Fish Drill Team doesn't wear the Marine Corps uniform.
2. The guy "out of line" at 0:32 appears that way because he is not part of the main block. Another unique aspect of the A&M drill team is that we use 1 or more (usually 2) solo performers who march along side the block. They do not march inside the block. These are the guys who do the real fancy individual drills. You don't see it in the movie, but we are also one of the only teams where the guidon participates in the exhibition drill.

Who's to say they joied the military after college, its not like they go to a military university. They go to Texas A&M, if it were a drill platoon from Annapolis or West Point, I would keep my mouth shut because I know they will serve upon graduating college. i'm a marine and i dont have a problem with them wearing the uniform while portraying the marine corps silent drill team. many actors portray marines in movies and tv shows and do it while wearing the uniform. some do it acurately by having proper placements of ribbons and isignia and some do it sloppy. i really dont care about them wearing the uniform to portray marines as long as they do it acurately. whats the big deal? how else are marines to be portrayed in movies by actors?
The USMC did not approve of nor support this movie since it was not a favorable reflection on the Corps. The drill team is comprised of Texas A&M students.

The question always bugs me of why we put these people through various positions of "twisting rifles" around like a little girl in the circus. I know they think they are "teaching disciple" and such...but the whole "show" thing seems kind of retarded for a professional military officer.

This is actually the Texas A&M Fish Drill Team (in this scene, most are cadre or former members)
If you were to play the entire movie through you would hear "Yo HUT!" which are cadence used by Texas A&M. (which is Army in flavor)

I've done a routine VERY similar to the one featured. The opening seconds where they are slamming the rifles down by there feet is still used.

As someone who was part of this team, let me clear a couple things up.
1. The uniforms you see were provided by the production's wardrobe dept. (Including pants and chloroframs) Anything inaccurate about the pants rests on wardrobe's shoulders. We didn't bring our own "Aggie" pants. The A&M Fish Drill Team doesn't wear the Marine Corps uniform.

2. The guy "out of line" at 0:32 appears that way because he is not part of the main block. Another unique aspect of the A&M drill team is that we use 1 or more (usually 2) solo performers who march along side the block. They do not march inside the block. These are the guys who do the real fancy individual drills. You don't see it in the movie, but we are also one of the only teams where the guidon participates in the exhibition drill.

You can join the Marines and be a foreigner, just contact a recruiter and they'll tell you all the proper papers you need. And to top it off, i believe if you serve 4 years your granted citizenship. Now right now its hard to join the Marines because they're getting full, but the Army has the same thing, you could join the Army instead. Foreigners just cant be Officers.

you're missing the point. These people are not necesarily military affiliated just because they handle rifles. Who's to say they joied the military after college, its not like they go to a military university. They go to Texas A&M, if it were a drill platoon from Annapolis or West Point, I would keep my mouth shut because I know they will serve upon graduating college. Bottom line, they are not Marines, so I dont like to see them wear the uniform.

i'm a marine and i dont have a problem with them wearing the uniform while portraying the marine corps silent drill team. many actors portray marines in movies and tv shows and do it while wearing the uniform. some do it acurately by having proper placements of ribbons and isignia and some do it sloppy. i really dont care about them wearing the uniform to portray marines as long as they do it acurately. whats the big deal? how else are marines to be portrayed in movies by actors?
