Anders Finer is the Artist and I couldn't find any detail on the picture but there is a chapter in AFFC titled: The Reaver that I imagine could be the setting. Victarion is wearing a full suit of heavy armor and comments that the men he was about to do battle with are wearing light leather armor because they were afraid of drowning. (I really like this picture also)

I like this very much...I have just finished reading the first book "A Game of Thrones" book 1 and it touched me very deeply...characters are so real that I could feel their emotions. Some of them(Eddard Stark, Robert) I will never forget like I knew them. The book is much deeper than LOTR

LOTR has a a more full back story but the characters don't have any real conflict in them except for Gollumn/Frodo/Sam.

Character-wise a Song of Fire and Ice has deeper characters. Keep in mind this is the style it is presented in---from the character's point of view always. I personally love all of Tyrion, Jaime, Jon, Sansa, Arya and Danny's chapters. Those characters have "grown" the most so far

LOTR is a narrative. The story is being told from someone outside the events going on.

I'm not sure who I feel sorry for the most, Eddard, Robert or Rhaegar. Probably Ned. Either way Robert's Rebellion was the most epic tragedy/fantasy I know of.

I am curretnly half way through book 1....It's incredibly emotional, yet amazingly epic at the same time....by FAR the best book I have ever read so far, and the first time in memory that I had a actual feeling of suspense in a book...and it was a couple of sentences long (involving Bran and Cersei)....I was like no don't do that.....and it felt like it was happening in slo mo like I was watching not reading....

I suggested the 100 page mark thinking that at that point the reader would have a basic knowledge of the main characters and should also get a feel for the tone of the story as well as the level of violence. I think most who read this series will want to keep reading.

I think HBO will fail to go through with it, it's too good to be true. It's too epic for anyone to handle a full 7 season series. I don't know.
