See how he plays the hi-hats and the snare with his left hand and leaves the right exclusively for the ride bell in the first verse? That´s not how Copeland played it in the recording of course, since he "cheated" and overdubbed his drums...but if your idea is to play the song "as is", THIS is the way to play it! He´s the only person I´ve seen so far (on video or live) that plays it like this. So, he´s eleven? Give him five years...
good job. but dont be too full off yourself. i see plenty of 8 year old kids playing this kind of songs too. i dont care what age you are. u probably started to play when you were 5,6?
Look man, it could use some touch ups, a little refining, but this is a pretty tough song to nail, and you did great. Then i take it in that you are 11. Great job. Screw what the others said lol
@K13RN4NDER Your also a posing little tosser. Music isn't about who's better then who, its an expression. If you have the "I'm better then everybody" attitude then become an athlete and not a musician, Because that attitude in music will get you nowhere.
@K13RN4NDER Don't be such a hater and be a congradulator! I learned a long time ago that there are things I can do musically and things I can't. The same goes for all musicians... and the other thing it that there is always someone out there better than you are... so just stop bragging!
Now... joelq123... you did a fantastic job on this song. It is very difficult and you did really well. Keep up the great work!!! :)
i dont thinkt here is any need for anyone to get overly irate about ur drumming coz its certainly by no means awful but they are right in saying ur age is irrelevant
I don't know why anyone would say you suck unless they are jealous in some way. You have a taken a song from Mr. Copelands arsenal that is not easy to play and rocked it good job, keep rocking your face off.
Why do amateurs post videos of themselves playing drums? They suck, they know they suck, they just want attention. And who gives a shit about being 11?
I hate to answer a question with a question mate but sometimes it needs it. Why dont gamers keep your views on life as the rest of us know it, to themselves? What the fuck would you know about a good drummer? Go-on, explain why you would know anything about a good drummer? If you play, can you post a vid so we can all say nice things about you. Or maybe you could video yourself doing something talented if at all possible? im sure the 11 yrs olds will look up to you whatever it is.
Doesn't everyone want attention? Stewart Copeland himself wrote letters to melody maker in fake handwriting of people from different towns he was going through to get himself interviewed.
And you gave him attention, you watched at least a good chunk of the video, and though your critisizm wasn't helpful others might be
Just alot of timing and stuff to work on, but your coordination is where you need to work, time is all you need
Plus this kid did damn good with a VERY difficult song.
it's a tricky one - stewart copeland (alongside most of his contemporaries) used a lot of over dubs - he cites things like listening back to his drum track origianl and adding a couple of toms or adding a kick+crash on odd beats over the top of the basic part.i don't know this for myself however. whether its overdubs or not, u yourslef do a good job of covering the different bases - say leading with ur left hand on the hihat freeing ur right to play extra tom beats and cymbals. good effort.
I dont think this song actually uses overdubbing on his drums. I believe the only thing he added was a bit of echo to his crashes. Stewart always adds cymbals on odd beats, he's known for syncopating in all possible ways.
if i'd suggest anything,it would be keep working on lefthand leading ur hihat (as well as ur normal right hand stuff - i assume ur right handed), and also to free up ur hands to play more of those random tom beats and ride cymbal strikes >>by geting ur left foot to open and close the hihat at speed (and always with accuracy)...dont know if Stewart Copeland does this himself, but if u cud play 8ths with ur left foot on the hihat,ur right hand AND left hand would be free mimic Stewart's overdubs :P
Good performance! I couldn't play like at 11!! Keep up the excellent work young man.

You play the easy version of this song, you forgot the hard part of the song: The double ride, the sidestick on the chorus.
Check this cover :)

Nice display of ambition kid. That's what will help you succeed.

a few tempo changes, a little top-heavy, and youre worrying to much about the fills, but besides that, it was a good cover.

whats the big deal in age, i don't really care as long as you can play it
darkninja060 2 years ago 8
@darkninja060 The big deal with age is that the younger you are the less time you've had to learn and practice.

You suck, and no it's not good for an 11-year-old. Age is just a state of mind. I know a 7 month old baby that can swim better than I can...
