Cont...from previous post.. She did get air in her ventricles. She gets random headaches and her speech is effected if she lays down with her head sideways. If she stands up, speech corrects. Anyone else seen side effects after surgery? Appetite increase, speech in and out of clarity, etc.?
My daughter, 3 years old, just had this surgery after her shunt failed. We are one week out and the changes are amazing. She was not obviously symptomatic of pressure before, but pressure was measured at 28ml during surgery. Shunt failure was detected at our annual exam. Surgery was performed at WVU Children's Hospital. Her coordination, speech, gate, and balance have already shown improvment. She is playing more, food tastes better (she eats like a fiend), and says she feels great.
