Asian mentality really annoys me. Im 17, a filipino guy born and raised in australia and i have some of the standard the filipino feats. (dark skin, flat nose). When i was younger i was really happy with my dark skin tone but when i went to the phillipines recently and started to listen to kpop, the whole 'white beauty thing' got into my head and now im quite unhappy about it my skin. Wow, I am just stunned. I am a caucasion woman who has always been extremely attracted to asian men. Plus, the few asian girlfriends that I had got so much attention. I just assumed that asians had a good appreciation for their own attractiveness. I find this really surprising. i lived in china for more than 10 years and i was acctually never exposed to plastic surgery and i lived in a city. also i visited Korea for a short time and the Koreans there are proud of their appearances very much. when i was there they said i looked Korean. i think they believed koreans are the most beautiful which is a bit idk...something.

I thought a lot about plastic surgery ,trying to understand it as PHENOMENON , NOT to bash people who take it.
My conclusions are below, in my comments.
There are cultural, social, historical explanations. This extreme aesthetism is typical for advanced- decaying societies , and its not a good sign.

Asian mentality really annoys me. Im 17, a filipino guy born and raised in australia and i have some of the standard the filipino feats. (dark skin, flat nose). When i was younger i was really happy with my dark skin tone but when i went to the phillipines recently and started to listen to kpop, the whole 'white beauty thing' got into my head and now im quite unhappy about it my skin. Now i want to be lighter (i dont give a shit bout my flat nose) and unfortunately i feel/think this way...

Actually Asians aren't trying to look "whiter" by bleaching their skin but are trying to look "fairer". Fair complexions have been considered desirable throughout Eurasia for centuries, from Europe to India to Japan. It denoted someone of higher status who didn't have to work outside. The odd thing is that in America so many white people now want a year round tan which, of course, will make you look like old luggage by age 40. Plastic surgery is prevalent everywhere-not just in ASIA. I think you maybe seeing more of it in China now with its rise of wealth just like it was in Japan first, then in Korea. I'm an attractive Korean who has never had surgery done & there are many of us out there. What's frustrating is the media perception that everyone has surgery done which is not true. There's something about appreciating what you were born with called Natural Beauty & what's even more important is the beauty inside.

Whatever is causing the trend, whether it be culture/media/ect, I think it's sad this has to happen. Not that I'm a statistician but *if* the numbers are rather high for plastic surgery in a country, then it must be a tough life for the people who are always trying to live up to those standards. I just assumed that asians had a good appreciation for their own attractiveness. I find this really surprising. Some people use sugery kind of like therapy. Picked on as a kid etc. I'd have to clean that out of my closet before body modification personally though. If you do something for the right reasons then no prob, but people have a hard time separating their emotions and so forth.

It's ugly and is slightly arched. I have BDD (it's revolved around my skin) and I haven't left my house in months, so I really want to fix it.

You're a beautiful asian guy. Pretty eyes and the feautures. Is crazy how some people would do anything to change what makes them what they are, like dark people bleaching their skin, white people tanning to death... being attractive is being comfortable in your own skin. I embrace my golden skin and latina features, that makes me unique and different, and also very attractive.
