Hilariously enough, the first time I did this part I happened to bring my team back near the castle to guard from the Cross Knight charge, and Deirdre and Manfloy were running on top of them...I was laughing because nobody did anything to save their lord's wife!

how did all your units get evolved i can only get fin like that because he is a key character to the 2nd half of the game

I boss abuse Gondolf using Ardan, the two cavaliers, and Dew. Everyone else just requires careful EXP managing and repeated Arena use. I also give Lachesis all the villages (or most of them anyway) in chapter 2 so in chapter 3 (or later in chapter 2) I can give her the elite ring.
