Definitely overswinging. He loses his balance. Watch his left foot. No rolling there!! I know he is the man to copy but I dont think this is his best swing. Doesnt anyone else agree that his left foot is totally out of sync?? Ps im not dising the man!!
@Threadonaspool this is from when he was older and less mobile than in his prime. However he still used his feet that way. Footwork is a lost art in modern golf. Snead had more weight through his heels than modern players who seem to like to be more on the balls of their feet. Snead uses the ground more and really digs in with his heels. It's a power source.
well I think it is a brilliant swing.. just look at the perfect balance he has in his finish... to lift the left foot(if its a right hand player) was pretty common back then.. and you can still see players on the tour doing that today..... some players finds it more comfortable and easier to keep the balance...
overswing? no.... look at daly.. one of if not the best ball hitter ever.. no one has never hit the ball so far and at the same time so straight ever.
@Threadonaspool if you look at his other vids, it looks like he is just winding up for more power and his left foot is usually up on the heal. His iron shots are a lot more grounded but a great ball striker non the less.
I was joking...some of these ninnies who get on these response lists and act like nobody was ever worth a sh$% before Tiger, etc., nobody knew how to swing a golf club...all crap. Snead is absolutely one of my all-time golf heroes, and probably the most physically talented guy and most gifted athlete who ever played golf for a living. He won his tournaments against everybody from Nelson to Hogan to Nicklaus, too.
Also, FWIW, I count his "disputed two" (which gives him 84).
Now there's a guy who can't play at all. No thrusting and levering, no "holding off the release," no "taking the hands out of the swing"--this guy has to be a hacker.
That commentator is a very famous John Jacobs :)

Check out his cool forward press with his right leg...but not with his hands to start the backswing!
He is the king of rhythm!

I guess Snead's sweet swing left the commentator at a loss for words!
