The gait that you are calling a running walk appears to be a pace. In a pace the legs move laterally, with the right front and right rear side legs moving in tandem and then the left front and left rear.
Both the Fino gait and the running walk are four beat gaits, similar to the walk, with a left hind, left front, right hind, right front beat, each with a distinct footfall.
My guess would be that your boy is being lazy with his Fino and is falling into a pace.
@PyroTekNik333 Yea, I know now...I've had quite a few people give me advice. At fair we consistently placed 1st and 2nds in the easy-gaited classes, so the judge must have liked it, even if it is a pace!
Just curious.. "use two hands with his gaited bit". Why in creation would you use anything else on a gaited horse? What exactly are you calling the running walk? The running walk is truly unique to the Tennessee Walking Horse- not a Paso. Take it from a girl who lives, breathes, SHOWS Tennessee Walking, Racking, and Spotted Saddle horses.
@walkergirl13 I use snaffles if I'm riding English or doing gymkhana. I have no idea what his gait is but it looks a heck of a lot like the Tennessee Walking Horse gait. He doesn't do his Paso Fino gait unless he wants to, and he never trots. If you can tell me what gait he actually does do, kudos to you. I showed him at fair and we won firsts in both easy-gaited pleasure and easy-gaited equitation, in both the original classes AND the championships.
I have my own Paso Fino his name is Zor he;s amazing went on a 4 hour trail ride with him> he was the first I've ever cantered,
