Ok I have an idea for an impact smoke bomb. What if you took some of the play-doh form of potassium nitrate and sugar, and wrapped into a small ball. Now cut a ping pong ball in half and place some sand paper on the inside. Put some match heads in there, and the potassium nitrate and sugar mix as well. Do you think that if you threw it at the ground would it create a burst of smoke?

@urzaspath1234 Ammonium nitrate is a high explosive and extremely hard to ignite. You can mix it with newspaper to get a smoke bomb, or oil to get an explosive more powerful than TNT. Tbh, ammonium nitrate is not worth anything unless you are a terrorist or a gardener. Use stump remover or soda of nitrate for smoke bombs.

@KryptoNite350 aluminum is the prime ingredient for rocket fuel, so i imagine so. the ignition of aluminum is what drives the reaction in thermite, breaking the iron oxide molecule.. releasing even more free oxygen.. till you got elemental iron at great temperature. hot enough to drill through tank engine blocks. this mixture here, should burn white, but i think the filler in the "stump remover" was the black smoke. ill have to buy some ot see what the filler is, substitue a better one.

potasium nitraite is reallly hard to get in canada (sorry) because its not sold in drugs stores or as stump remover anymore. to make it from scratch, take ashes (not charcol) from a fire and mix into water. filter and pour through a bucket of soil and collect the remains and boil

I made these experiments too.

I must warn everyone: it looks like a smoke only but the fire heats up the container. A steel can will become totally red and will melt in places. Also, this mixture fires some stuff around it. And a note: don't spill water on the hot container to cool it down. The hot mixture will explode.
