  • 0:29 sen4 dudes been getting up for ages

  • hey do they sell any records by The Prodigy?

  • How Much?

  • hey I'm sure I know the song that's playing until 3min or so and I can't remember what it is.. anyone ?

  • @tangobob11

    BB & Q Band - Imagination

  • Some of these are definitely overpriced. That Little Sister record is not in NM (looks VG+ at best) was a Top 25 hit, so it's not that rare, and typical VG+ records are $4 (price guide) from that era. And, that Juicy Fruit is a different song than the Mtume version. But it looks like there are better places to get bargains. And, I do agree with what it says on your undershirt!

  • What's good! I linked ya vid on my website: ParkJamOnline

Hope you don't mind. Hope it gets ya some clicks too.

  • Much love. this has got to be one of the greatest resources for listening to samples and understanding loops outside of having access to all of that yourself. Thanks bro.

  • hey, was in NYC last week and checked out A1!

digged out some nice classic chicago house 12's

top vid funktuall & a top shop!

  • Whenever i get a chance to visit New York im most def going to A-1....just wondering are the price there pretty good there?

  • A1 records is on my to do list when I'm going to NYC and that hopefully will be around november, can't wait! You got any other record stores in NY you can recommend funktuall? love your videos btw

  • There's still music made entirely live and with no samples...check on youtube: superpaolo: mr groove..no samples there, just musicians and its so so funky

  • Hi!

You are really an expert in hiphop music! So maybe you can help me checkin out my unknown hiphop tunes (all from mid till late 90s) on my channel.

    thank you so much

  • one of your best vids i love it

  • I was staying in Manhattan for a while recently while doing a student exchange from London and a friend who has a huge music knowledge took me to A-1 Records. If I could have, I would have taken so many records back home with me from there. When I move to New York, it'll become a regular spot for me!

Also, love the videos Funktual, thank you for making them. Keep up the good work!

  • you really gonna pay 8 bucks for summer madness bro?!

  • Hey Funktuall !

Here In the uk we have watched theses type of stores dissapear its such ashame altho i dont think they ever held as much Funk as that store anywayz

Biggupz for your videos man i a big fan

  • i wish we had something like that in memphis.

  • I just heard "Love TKO" on the radio a few hours ago, for the first time in years. R.I.P. Teddy Pendergrass.

    Great haul.

  • sooooooooooooooooo........... can I borrow MY Straight To Hell record xD I DID sub with all 3 of my accounts. haha I may switch accounts now and then, but damnit I can't miss any Funktuall

  • Albert King "Born Under a Bad Sign" my favorite one u found

  • Dope. My favorite video of yours yet.

  • Yo funktual, loving the work and dedication to the funk. I thought i knew a bit about music before i came accross your videos, i clearly dont.

In your videos you played two tracks which i couldn't hear who they were buy. One was a sample used by Fatboy Slim in 'praise you' and the other was a track called taxman by again i dont know who. Im quite def

    Thanks

  • I believe you are talking about Take Yo praise by Camille Yarbrough and Taxman by Junior Parker

  • What's that first tune I hear when entering the record store... Something with ''Imagination" ?

  • Funk, I love your vids. I though thought you were using that cash to get out of work, not buy rekkids.

    Not hatin', just sayin'.

  • Did you even watch his original video talking about the donations? He came right out and said that this was what the money was for... So he could support his family by making more videos for us, the fans.

  • rip teddy p

  • even though I made the switch to CDs, I still miss vinyl and crate diggin'. damn, this shop has everything.

  • let us see yours!!!!!!!!

  • Word

  • I have a question Funk. Do you listen to The Coup? (just thought maybe you would because you do love funk and The Coup = The Roots (Some live instruments I mena) + Public Enemy + Funk)

Kill My Landlord and Genocide & Juice are seriously funky.

  • I have liked what I have heard and wanted to get the albums but never did. If given the choice b/w old and new I always pick old. Has it's drawbacks at times. I'll peep them out again though, their reputation is quite good.

  • Right on. I recently was able to get all their singles from Kill My Landlord so I have all the funkafied remixes and the extra dope Instrumentals (as well as the one for Fat Cats, Bigga Fish)

  • @funktuall Great vid. Im green with envy ! It would take years or a big pile of cash to get those 7s together over here in England. What did they cost you roughly ?

  • Madonna and many famous people walked those streets in LES including Dj Funktual :)

  • 6:19, Saturday love by Cherelle with alexandre O'neal, i was trying to remember the title and artist on this song, now i hooked on this song again.

  • Was that "Heat you up - cool you down" instrumental in the background? I went to A1 in 1997. The shop was then run by an English guy (from Wolverhampton I think) I purchased:- Voices Of East Harlem "Right on be free" and Blue Note Demo 7" of Ronnie Laws "Always there" They had two decks to play try the vinyl out on and they were both terrible sound quality. I first heard "Agua de beber" by Frank Sinatra in A1 - still love that version to this day! I stayed at 92 McDougall & Bleeker.

  • Record stores rarely have rap, but that one was a gold mine. Great place.

  • A-1 is my frickin mecca~!

  • Damn this makes me want to move to New York so bad! If I had money or a hook up, I would move there in a heartbeat. The price of living is just insane. It seems like you have to be rich to be poor in NYC. Some day...

  • Oh I saw D-nice in there "taking out you suckers and you don't know how I did it"!

  • MAN all those classic stuff :D!!!!! Nice man! I love this vid!

  • We trust you to use your judgement dude :)

  • Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday love......oh man!

  • Dibs on the Wilson Pickett!

Man, that little Isaac Hayes sketch creeped me out

  • nice selection of hiphop 12's they got there..

i would first check the "profile" section

  • you want us to send you money,u look like your doing good if you can buy all them records

  • bobbito ... listen fail, logic fail, grammar fail.

  • @devolvedcouk

dont mean to be a prick of anyhting but we all feeling the pinch,im out of work, why should we send money for him to pay for trips to ny and buy records,no offence, love what he's doing and all, but everyones got problems

  • I know, I paid last months rent today, next month due in a week :p

chip in if u can, don't if you can't. It's just helping him help us.

My $5 isn't worth much on it's own, but a with few other it means he can bring us more funky goodies :)

  • dayum, i could spent months in there. what a great store.

  • awesine

  • hey man great video i'll finish my top 10 samples list and send it to your face book real soon

  • Funk de la Funk.

Man, It's so exciting whenever I see that you've made a new vid. This one was a bit different....but that's great ! It's inspiring me to make my own videos one day, about the places that are important to my life as well. Appreciated!

I'm a slow ass, and haven't sent my $5 yet. BUT BROTHER I PROMISE I WILL,I GOT THE ENVELOPES OUT AND EVERYTHING! If it makes you feel any better...I still haven't sent my grandma her Christmas card! I'll send you an Xmas card 2 !

  • Who is singing "Imagination" in the background Funk?

  • BB & Q Band - Imagination

  • i love going there. good stuff!

  • Wish I knew a place like this. The only one I know of in Canada is the one place in Vancouver... but I'm not in BC, I'm in Ontario, I guess there must be one in Toronto but none that I've heard of.

  • Hey buddy! I'm from Ontario too and a fan of the functual. Where you from ? I'm near Windsor/Detroit : )

  • I grew up in Pickering, moved to Grimsby last year... but I'm in school in Thunder Bay

  • Damn I wish Hawaii had more places like this. We've got like 3 decent places on the isle.. but the selection is pretty horrible. Damn I would love a copy of some Teddy P, Zapp, Edwin Starr, this list could go on aaaalll day. Hah!

Will definitely stop by the shop if I ever make my way to NYC. And that is a must.

  • Sweet. Did they cut you a break on the records??

  • Its too Funky in here!....will add A1 to the list of places I need to visit when I next get over to the US.

  • one more place i need to go to next time im in the city a lot of great stuff you found

  • Keep doing ya thing Funk.

  • if I needed another reason to make a trip back to NYC...a good old fashioned crate dig is what the doctor ordered...
