I never said that complete libertarianism is the right way to go. The federal and state governments have a role in making sure that businesses do not mistreat their employees, or produce so much pollution that they destroy the environment. You also fail to understand that during the "gilded age," millions of poor, uneducated (often illiterate and barely, if at all, able to speak English) people from all over the world poured into the US at an unprecedented rate, clogging up the cities, competing for jobs and living in exactly the same sort of squalor they had left behind in their homelands. Still the vast majority of them ended up doing far better than they would have anywhere else on Earth and their kids did far better than that.

If you are suggesting that those changes within species actually cause one species to become another, then no, evolution not a fact. Macro-evolution is as much a myth as human-caused climate change.

Are you of the belief we were put on this earth as is by a higher power? Of course there is micro-evolution but when you have hundreds of millions of years for these changes occur you're not going to end up with something that looks much like what you started with.

The fossil record doesn't exhibit any evidence of one species becoming another species. It never has. Moreover, fossils cannot prove speciation because speciation is dependent upon organisms which have reproduced. There is no way of showing that any fossil came from an organism that had any offspring, therefore, fossils are useless at proving macro-evolution. As for NS being magical, I never said it was. I said that the mechanism does not magically change its nature over time.

You see, NS is basically a quality control mechanism. It selects out the weaker individuals from the group, and since the ones that are left are the stronger individuals, when they reproduce they cause the group to be generally strengthened. Genetic information is actually lost during the process, not gained, and since genetic information must be gained for one species to become another, the mechanism is not capable of causing speciation. That's why the process incorporates mutation...

Mutation does not drive natural selection. NS is simply the dying off of weaker, less environmentally adept individuals of a species and the interbreeding of the stronger, more adept individuals. It is a mechanism by which the species is strengthened and preserved. While mutation occurs during the breeding process, it is incidental to it, and usually has the opposite effect of weakening the species. Mutation doesn't drive anything, it's a genetic mistake made during the cellular copying process.
