  • I am not hating or anything but you say that your better than the Ceser Millan than why don't you try training an extremely aggressive dog to be a good dog like he does? If you can do that then I will believe you.

  • i have a question how much would it cost for u too teach my dog? or someone as good as u how much do u charge?

  • ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! YOU GOT THE DOG TO COME TO YOU WHEN YOU CALLED ,

ACTUALLY YOU DONT NEED TO TELL A DOG TO COME WHEN IT IS ALREADY GOING TO YOU.

  • with my dog when he comes to me and i give him turkey he does want to come back he just wants the turkey

  • good job, but I'm wandering if this dog has been trained before, everything seem very easy, is not like the real world

  • @ELCR777 There is probably a good relationship between dog and owner already. My guess is that if someone starts off by scaring the dog in some way, all bets are off as for that dog wanting to come to them.

  • can u show me how to teach my dog to understand english?she doesnt understand anythingi say.she just looks at me while i talk and takes no action.

  • So HOW do you enforce the rules?

  • so HOW do you enforce the rules?

  • Thank you soooo much Zak!!! I have just adopted a border collie and an australian shepherd (Initially I was looking for one small dog, but as life goes they seem to have chosen me... =) ) and I'm sooo happy for your advices! The 3 of us are really having a great time and we are so looking forward to learn more! I really am discovering a totally new style of dog training (which is so much more fun!!! =) ) Thank you and please go ahead!

  • hey ea... i thik it would be easier for us for u to teach a dog that doesn't know any trick like fetch, sit, com.stay and ect srry lol it jsut because that we want to know how to teach our dog a trick but like when u teach ur dog already knows the trick right? so yer ... and like it might be better for u to proof that your strategy to teach a dog to that something does work... :P srry for expecting u to go this i'm just giving u some advance :P

btw ^^ i love ur videos of teaching ur dog sumthing

  • press one repeatedly...

  • Great video that makes it look like a simple training. But only when being consistent and a good Alpha you get these results. I use this viedo for my web site meandmydogtips. Thank you!

  • I have 2 great danes because they are so big just saying no doesn't make them stop that much because they know they are big and stronger than us when they really try what can we do other than act dominant because its the only thing tha works but it seems so mean?

  • pause at 0:34 fuuuuuuunnny

  • do you show the dog the food or not? cus when I try with my dog showing the treat and without he just stares at me waiting for it to come to him -.-

  • What happens if your dog gets away from you and starts chasing a dog or cat? >=o

  • Who wouldn't come to Callie?!?

Great video. I lost my boy about 7 months ago and finally feel I'm ready for another and brushing up on the basics again. Keep the videos coming!

  • I saw Callie at the end (sorry if I didn't spell it right) doing Sit Pretty

  • Will try that as soon as i get home.

  • could you please make a video on how to call your dog, when he doesnt feel like coming, or when he got something better than my treat?

  • Can you teach me how to teach dog go to go super market buy that things I want and bring back to me?

  • @mlcmingliang Lol OFC, my dog is golden retriever, he brings me food lol

  • ...lol...lol...you're insane....lol...dogs don't communicate with an annoying high pitch come command. animals don't communicate with each this way...lol...you're annoying and sooooo wrong

  • @sigridism Why don't you do it better? You could make a video how it is really done

  • what a sweet dog

  • that make really sence.

  • how do you "enforce the rules" there a lot of different ways in which people do this. Some do it the wrong way and its a shame when they are cruel. How would you enforce the rules. Thank you for your time

  • Thanks for the tips

  • I teach my dogs better than this, there is to many commands its NOT GOOD teaching.

Ask me if you want real TIPS

  • LOL my dogs name is Cali

  • and one other thing, i dont want to talk like gay "Callie comeeee!" infront of other people in hood

  • what if dog is so smart and knows that you will close the garden gate when he comes and wont be able to go out again? i have that problem with my dog..she wont come to me becouse she knows she wont be able to get out from garden..i dont know what to do

  • 12 peoples hate dogs

  • @679mid actually the twelve people are cats

  • great video

  • I have an issue that maybe you can help me with. Whenever I'm training my dog to do a trick, she will do the trick only if I have a treat. Otherwise, she won't listen, in fact, she'll pretty much ignore me. Do you have any tips?

  • @LittleMissAthletic07 i used to have that same problem, my dog would think that she only gets treats during training seshions, so while she is playing i would call her nam,e show her the treat make her do a trick then go back to wat u were doing. that showed her that i can have a treat at any time so whenever i would tell her to do something she would think i would have a treat. so i slowly started to do that and started to praise her after the random tricks rather then giving treats.

  • We should have discovered this channel ages ago :-)

  • my f... Pomeranian is 3 years old and doesn't listen he runs away when not on the leash and doesn't come back . how can i stop it any advice ?

  • @Mormyha

When your out walking,if he's behaving on the leash, give him a small few biscuits...

Just so he knows you have them

so if you let him off the leash, and you want her to come back, call him and show her a biscuit, when he sees it and comes back, praise her and give her the biscuit.. Do it a few times, make sure you bring a ball for him to fetch, so he can run for it and you can try it again.

I've had so many dogs, and i've done this with all of them, and its worked =)

I hope this helps you =)

  • How can teach a puppie boxer not to poop inside the house?

  • guys, I want a help,,,, is the Husky a guard-able dog or not? Is it dangerous??

  • @loloy940 i have a malamute , i think the character is really similar to a huskys , and i would say a sled dog in general i really the most friendly type of dog breed you can have, theyre intelligent and active but its hard to train them and they really are a lot of work, you have to walk them or run with them really much and brush them really often, also you should not mind haveing dog hair EVERYWHERE if you want a husky ... yes even in your food

so if you have enough time its a great dog :D

  • but when I call my dog to put the leash? all the positive work is gone?

  • liol

  • cute girl!!!

  • I bet you could do a great Christopher Walken impersonation. You could hit the tonality and inflection. "Weow! wa wa wee wa, this, is training dogs! Yowza! Ya gonna want that enthusiastic reward in there man! Heaven!"

  • my dog was almost a police dog for my uncle since he was a cop, he went through all the training and everying but when he got to the shooting range he freaked, not at the noise but at the sight of a gun, so i have to give commands in german, and he never disobeys unless its somthing serious, hes a good dog i love him

  • How old does your dog got to be before u can start training them?

  • @slowmotionkingdom the sooner the better!

it's both rewarding for you, and your dog!

we started training our dog as soon as we got her (two months) and we've built a great relationship with the training

  • @slowmotionkingdom you can start the moment you get them

  • so? did you got the girl!?!?!?

  • @thegoodhood he got the dog.

  • great video :D thx

  • Hey Zack I just got a 11 week old puppy. When I put her on leash she just sits down and ignores me any tips?

  • Awesome!!!

  • "itll come naturally it doesnt come straight up over night" thats what she said hahaha

  • pause at 0:25 just before he says cally? is that the dogs name? nayway he looks really funny :) lol love this video

  • kelly is hot

  • Hey!My dog is 5 years old. Will this still work or its too late for teaching? He really doesn't know that i exist when we go for a walk and when i call him he doesn't even look at me....The only thing that i teached him is to sit, shake hands and lieing.

  • that girl is pretty <3_<3...and so do the dogs (:

  • nice

  • lol pause at 0:21

  • lol pause at 0:17 cheez!!!!! jk i love zack goerge

  • My problem is that when I call my dog in a happy cheery voice she stands there nervously and wags her tail, but when I call in a stern voice while pointing to the ground in front of me, she comes. I don't want her to dread come when called, any advice? She's a very timid dachshund I just got from rescue.

  • lol pause at 0:39

  • cant you just whistle thats what i do with my red nose pitbull

  • Great video, but one question: what to do when your dog is not food motivated?

  • tennis ball? belly rub? whatever they like

  • Thnx for your answer. The probem is that there is nothing he likes more then being outside lol.

  • Maybe teach him inside, just near the door, and if he performs well, you let him out for a few minutes. It would take a long time, but whatever it takes.

  • @proletera CANDY! every single dog loves sweets!!

  • Oh my God, Callie is adorable! Such a happy pup!

  • omg is that ir girlfrd... woo hoo

  • This is one of the most overlooked tricks.

A dog that will come to you, everytime, under any condition, happily.

    Good job!

  • Thats tru but he will comt to you everytime as lone he is NOT a Syberian Husky that I happen to have :) As long there is nothing intresting he will come. But if there is just a tiny little bird somewhere he WONT come at all :)

  • @JustMeAdrian1984

    I had a Siberian.

    Best dog ever.

She would come everytime under any condition trained like this.

It took a year of doing this with a long line (always) and never calling her if I could not re-inforce. I treated her always at first.

    Good luck.

  • my bernese is food motivated....ever since he was a 10 week pup...everytime he came to me whether i asked him to or not ( and i mean everytime everyday) id have abit of cheese and id go crazy for about 20 seconds of excitement...by the time he was 5 months it was pretty much imbeded in his brain thast "bear come" is means come to me treat time...ps i dont treat him anymore just a good boy and a rub...

  • can you make a video about retrieving a toy after you throw it. my dog always gets the ball and never takes it back to me. i'm not sure if you have a video on that yet.

  • @commenteraanonymous Well I know that he has said this in random videos: When you throw a toy and the dog chases and picks it up, start to run away while yelling "Bring it back!". Works golden. Eventually, they will naturally bring it back.

  • @commenteraanonymous

yeah what about it did u make a movie about it yet?

  • @commenteraanonymous He has a video with that. You throw the thing and when he gets it you say "retrieve" and you also start running in the opposite direction. If the dog drops the item before reaching you don't reward him and repeat the trick.

  • @commenteraanonymous hey i have the same question if he does make a video can you tell me about it really helps thx!

  • lol pause at 0:14

  • @wasup23tube What about it? I don't see anything.

  • @wasup23tube what>???

  • @wasup23tube at 2:19 ,2:52 0:22 and every parts in which the male person is speaking...

  • @wasup23tube actually pause at 19 seconds its sooooooooooooo funny

  • @wasup23tube 0;19 is funnier

  • @wasup23tube hahahahaha

  • your videos are clear and precise. I appreciate the organized manner of your approach and your emphasis on consistency. keep up the great work!

  • wow! she looks like my dog, except my dog is a boy

  • ok thank you

  • CONTINUE: like to stay in any situation

  • How do You teach your dog to stay like that? PLEASE make a vid about it. BECAUSE it is required in most of your vids and i cant train if i dont know how to do that!

  • you are a professional trainer or WHAT?

  • My dog is very smart (border collie / aussie shepherd mix) and can pick up commands and new tricks very easily. However, getting her to come when called has been one thing she isn't very good at. This was nice to watch. Thanks, Zak!

  • I could have used some training on my lab when he was younger and completely insane. Now he's older (and still slightly crazy) and pretty much understands English fluently. The sounds, the tones, the hand gestures, the facial expressions - he's a master of human communication. When I get another dog, hopefully not for a while, I'll start him up on this when he's young. But I don't want to ever be one of those domineering owners. I don't want Cesar Milan sucking all the fun out of having a dog.

  • Just GREAT. As always!!!

  • This video makes me happy ^_^

  • Thankyou!!! Very nice!!!

  • Nice video...important command to learn....

  • This is a great video. Even as a person with years of dog training/dog sports experience, I can always continue to work on the most important of all commands: "come." You offer some great advice in this video, I think the #1 mistake people make is failing to reward when their dog does come. I've even seen people scolding their dogs for returning to them after running off and it upsets me because it's punishing the dog for coming when called! Every dog owner needs to know these basics!

  • You sound like you are new to dog training. Maybe Zak wasn't perfectly clear in the video, but at 0:33 he does say that "at FIRST you want to reward heavily [with treats], but it is not something you have to do forever."

Once the dog performs the command 100% on both your cue and your hand signal, you can then start fading the treat. Reward half of the time, then just part of the time, and then none of the time. Google "reinforcement schedules (in dogs)" for more details.

  • If its me you mean im not new to training Thats basic he teaches and yes i think he was unclear. I missed that at 0.33 How to call in the dog depends in the race and individual. I have to be hard in the voice to make them turn back. But as soon as they have done that i have a nice voice and pet them as reward.

  • And just exactly does the dog react when you call it in and dont have pieces of turkey sandwich on you? Treats you give to pups. A grown dog must obey without it.

  • Shure. But there is a way to it! With a lot repeat, and repeat. And... so then it will be constantly and normal that your dog will come in every situation!

  • It had to be fun and something very good to come to you. So if you are angry, if it is not comming. It will learn, that come to you is bad!

  • All you say is correct accept the candy/treat part. My believe is that adult dogs should not have candy in situations where they must oney. We only give ours candy spontaneously and after hard physical training.

    /Mats

  • well that could work but i cant get my dog to sit or stay!

  • in my oppinion its better to call you dog away from distraction wheen they wander off than to call your dog from a stay (this could ruin your stay if you arent carefull). and also it works so much nicer with puppies, and it makes a bigger impression

  • Thanks for posting this one Zak! This is the thing I have been having problems with.

  • that's exactly how I teached it my dog too! It's the best way so they like to come to you, after all... who wants to come to someone who sounds angry? 5* for you Zak ;-)

  • Stupid to call the dog towards 3 dogs lying and staring to begin training. Poor Callie, setting her up to fail

  • I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. I have two Chihuahuas one is almost 9,female,and the other is 5,male.And we have taught them both the come command but I have notice that the male has stopped coming when called and when you go to get him he growls and snaps if you try to pick him up,and I'm starting to be frightened he will bite me.I have bad hips and back ,so they need to come when called. Can you give me any tips to help retrain him to come when called, instead of when HE wants

  • Just a personal answer, not from a professional. Have you watched shows like the Dog Whisperer? There is an episode called Chihuahuas from Hell. I think you would find it useful as it details some tricks to Chuihuahuas.

Also, has this happened before? Do you know if he has been doing this out of any other emotion such as fear or anger? He might be fighting for dominance since some males do that within a certain range of years. He could also feel your fear.

Hope this helps a bit, and good luck!

  • Thanks for the tips.I will see if I can find the show you mentioned and see what it's about.

  • lol at the end u can see her teaching the dog sit pretty lol

  • awesome video.

  • Hi, just a small question. The first time the dog is called it started out right but then halted and sniffed the ground a bit before coming. Could that be that she didn't want to appear agressive towards the other dogs lying there? Thus slowing down and putting the nose towards the ground.

In the other shots there were no other dogs and she came resolutely. I didn't notice any big difference in the owners composure or tone of voice.

  • sniffing the ground isnt necessarily a submission thing, she may have just some across an interesting smell. sniffing is usually a curiousity thing, and a dog that just has its head down is often just plain fearful, not submissive anyhow.

  • I was not thinking in terms of dominance submission.

I thought it looked like the dog was simply giving calming signals. Not to submiss but to avoid confrontation. Politness if you wish. I don't know the dog though. If she was sniffing that is not good (disobedient), if she was respectfull to the other dogs, that is good and you wouldn't want to correct that.

  • how is a dog being curious about a scent for a second disobedient? only if you see obedience as being a spirit broken robot, shes only just getting the hang of things, and calming signals are primarily used when the dig is under stress, shes clearly comfortable, and stress free, or else shed be more reluctant to move than she was.ive actually spoken with dog behaviour experts about body language in training, so i can tell u, she isnt stressed or confused.

  • Perhaps I worded myself wrongly.

I just ment that you want the dog to give you its attention when you call and not be easily distracted. Disobedient is too strong a word, you'll have to excuse my english. But you want to train the dog to not be distracted when you give this command no?

Wonderful that you are able to see so clearly that the dog is not stressed. I can see that too. I was curious if she was giving calming signals to the other dogs before any reason for stress could occur.

  • oh i understand, lol, well, curiousity can be a great thing in dogs, as it helps them be more social etc, and her running to the owner without paying attention to anything else at all will come with practice.

and it is good to see another trainer with a good understanding of calming signals!

im sorry i didnt get what you meant before lol, we are all only human after all :D

  • Well you know.., this a new artform, isn't it?; writing everything you think down in less than 500 words in poor english, lol :)

    Sorry for the confussion.

I find dog language very interesting and fun to study. So much fun to be around dogs when you start to get the hang of it, though I daresay I'll ever be fluent in dogish (or english for that matter) :p

    Be well :)

  • this is awsome i love this video

  • Great tips.

  • yay callie! u go dawg.

  • Ha Ha....When my dog Lady won't come to me when called, I discovered that if I say a cuss word like "Shit" ! She comes to me immediately. I think that the neighbors think my dog's name is "Shit".

  • lol!

  • That will just make your dog not want to come to you even more. She'll associate you with being hurt and locked outside

  • r u kidding me????

  • NO!

  • great video!

  • Good vid.

  • I like these tips, but it would've been nice to see more of the correction you should do when they don't come to you. Also, to mention not to ask for a "come" when you are angry with them, or taking them to do something they don't like (clipping nails, leaving park, etc.). I love your vids, Zak, and am anxiously awaiting your show on AP! I have taught my dog to sit pretty and play with frisbee from your videos! Thanks!
