  • would have loved a suspension at 1:08

  • is there any way you could give me an mp3 file of your harmonic version? ive grown accustomed to listening to this and I actually have gotten to like it more than the original :)

  • gay...

  • Everyone who knows music will have to agree that this is an interesting way of interpreting fireflies... why didn't i think of this?

  • harmonic minor ^ theory rocks lol

  • Very nice done, but too bad it's out of key

  • @Maanhtje Being "out of key" is the whole point. If you're dying for the original one I did in the original key, there are links on the video.

  • @Maanhtje YEAH I NO RITE? HE NEEDS TO LEARN 2 SING BETTUR

  • love it

  • i hate people ruining songs like this, thumbs up if you agree

  • @waterball256 it seems no one agrees =P

  • more of these versions, it s awesome!

  • amazing! :D

  • Can't stand the original, but this is sick!

  • this sounds creepy as shit

its crazy what minor keys can do to the sound of something

  • What an inspired idea! Amazing!

  • Oh, and you don't have to do all six (of course, you can impress everyone if you do) You need only do No. 5 "Landsknechte"

  • @jevalles OK, I found a single mention of "6 voices for male orchestra" on youtube.

    watch?v=C6x3wWNTltw

  • @tiyenin Bad performance. I will have to send you a copy of the John Aldus Choir. I haven't had much luck transferring vinyl to mp3's, but I'll give it another shot. Or you can have an analog cassette copy to work from. Got the score yet? Did you pass your oral exams like I said you would, DR. tiyenin?

  • @jevalles Close. I'm just a friend; Jimlapbap's the user who did this video and who you challenged to arranging Landsknechte.

  • Done! And the very best of luck on the exams!

  • I'll give you a break and let you use the music score. PhD exams are no excuse! But I'll be fair and allow you to work on it after 12 days, when you've presumably finished the exams--and passed them. (Don't worry, I have fairly reliable ESP, so chances are good you'll pass.) Best recording of this* is by the John Aldus Choir. [*Sechs Stücke für Männerchor , not Fireflies]

  • @jevalles The exams last two weeks, and then I have my orals. Then I've got regular class papers and finals to worry about, then I go visit my parents for Christmas. Let's say, early January 2011.

  • @jimlapbap Copy of the recording on ebay right now. Item 220680069218

  • @jevalles Vinyl??

  • @tiyenin yes, vinyl. Some of the best things in life sometimes deserve to reside in museums. Here is one of them.

  • @jevalles There are zero results for every combination of 'John Aldus Choir Schoenberg Sechs Stücke für Männerchor' that I can think of. Youtube link, please.

  • You're good, but are you THIS good?-- Schoenberg Sechs Stücke für Männerchor op. 35 -- I double-dog dare you.

  • @jevalles To transcribe by ear, you mean? Or to use the music, record, and pitch-correct like crazy?

By the way, I'm too busy right now (my PhD comprehensive exams start in 10 days).

  • I've had this version stuck in my head for a few days after hearing it once. I started singing it without thinking and got a "dude are you sick?". God I love this. The original sounds wrong to me now...

  • This is great, good work.

  • i understand the key change and stuff, and i like the sound of it, i just think that the resulting tune does not fit the words on this song at all haha

it sounds more dramatic and sad this way, which would be perfectly okay for a different song that wasnt about happily seeing fireflies in dreams

  • @jamincortez See comment from "meshumekha" who would disagree with you ;-)

  • Im wondering what Video Editor do you Use, Id like to Try this Except a Different Song... LOL

  • good attempt...but he's too white to beatbox!

  • Even if its not 100% correct transposed, its still a nice version. Good work!

  • woahhh that's pretty cool.

  • Sounds great! Minor always reminds me of Banjo Tooie's Spiral Mountain Theme.

  • Pretty cool version. I like it. :)

  • @zachXbellXrox Also, will we get an mp3 of this? I've been listening to this in a loop for the past hour or so, and I think it'd be easier to do that in iTunes than on YouTube. XD

  • @zachXbellXrox I concur.

  • took me a few seconds to get into it, but after my ears adjusted to the minor sound i really enjoyed it. very clever!

  • lol the beatboxing part starts like your going to spit a huge one xD

  • sounds weird, but not bad at all

  • i have not heard someone sing so off key since i saw my 5 year old cousin

  • @hessticlys If your cousin can take songs originally in a major key and sing them in a minor key, your cousin is a musical genius at age 5 to understand music theory that intricately, and needs to be taking music lessons.

On a related note, you should probably learn what a "minor key" is. Or watch the original video, which is in the original key.

  • @jimlapbap It's a good thing this person didn't hear the Thai scale version you made of this.

  • @jimlapbap pwn't

  • @hessticlys wow dude. don't criticize if you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • ...Great Googly Moogly, everything DOES sound darker in Minor...

...my God, this SCARES me. This makes me think a cover of "This is Halloween" is in order. If you don't do one, I probably might have to make one for myself, though I'm crap at singing, and it takes me about fifteen tries to get just one track of vocalizations with pitch correction that doesn't sound like a cat being slowly crushed by a steamroller.

  • When I heard this on the radio last fall, I was suffering from acute insomnia, and I said that the music was way too happy for the song to be about insomnia. This makes more sense. :)

  • some of the chords in the chorus are wrong. but good try!

  • @vivace031 Are you talking "major to minor" chords, or original notes chords?

  • @jimlapbap they're just wrong. the chorus, in harmonic minor, should go iv-i-V-iv-i-III-iv-iv-i-iv-V-VI-iv-i-V. you have a lot of weird inversions, missing voices, and some just wrong chords. sorry, just sayin...

  • @vivace031 If you read the info on the original video, I explain this. I took down some wrong inversions and chords (usually writing in C minor instead of Eb). Because some of those chords are wrong, the chords in this version are wrong as well, because I was just having a bit of fun with Melodyne.

Also, I left al the III's as III+ to strictly fit the scale. I also left the F major in the original as an F major in this version to resemble a V/V in minor.

  • @jimlapbap well i'm a bit confused as to why you'd write in C minor as opposed to Eflat minor because the original is in Eflat major - so the simple "minor" cover of the song would assumably be in the Eflat minor. but, that's cool. and i didn't mind that the F major chord was kept. that sounded fine...however those inversions - having the 3rd in the bass really made it sound weird to me. but hey, i'm just one guy...

  • The amount of time it takes to put this together must be HUGE! Amazing! :D

  • @Dzhudgashvili The original version, yes. This one, not so much ;-).

  • Good Job Man =)

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm this is weird!

  • Highly sexy!

  • @tiyenin This is definitely for the musicians, as they seem to be the ones who are enjoying this the most ;-)

  • you should upload the piphat tuning one =P

    this is matt btw

  • I would imagine that's a difficult song to do accapella, so great work.

  • I prefer the other, definnitely ^_^

  • WOW!! AWESOME MAN!!

  • Sounds like this belongs in a Tim Burton film
