Marsh ) and Mainwaring are far from inadequate. They have resourcefulness and initiative. Without men like that, all you ever get is a bunch of folks saying 'someone should so something - really.........
It seemed to me in the 1970s ITV just tried to copy everything the BBC did. The most famous example is Magpie which as everyone knows was a copy of Blue Peter. Oh No It's Selwyn Froggit was ITV's Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em. This is ITV's copy of Dad's Army and It Ain't Half Hot Mum. But Corporal Marsh never achieved the cult status of Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Major Williams.
this is definitely the best tony selby did in a lead role sitcom-get some in-get the dvds--released recently after all this time-still as good as when it was first shown-many thanks -
@mickkinnard Corporal Marsh is in some way a bit like Captain Mainwaring and, in more recent times, David Brent. He's an inadequate man who's been given authority and it's gone to his head.
"Fag for the Corporal..........!"

Whatever happened to David jansen? He always reminds me of Pete Shelley from the Buzzcocks.

In reality, Lilley would have been beasted up and down the ranges. He got off lightly there.
