yes there is a need for stealth tanks. helicopters like the apache and hind are equiped with radars to spot tanks. stealth might prevend tanks from being detected by those tankbusters.

Either way a stealth tank wouldnt work because Apaches and Cobras are equipped with visual targeting systems in the pilots helmets so stealth tanks would be a waste of money but the idea is great though.

with a bit of camo, a tank can easily become allmost invisible, but i see your point. however, i'm not sure wether all the weapon systems on board of Cobras and Apaches can be controlled from the pilots hemet. (the 30mm canon of the Apache is) i simply do not know.

The sidewinder tank busting missles can be fired from the pilots helmet but the helfire missles are controlled from radar heat signatures so stealth can stop a helfire missle but not the deadly sidwinder missles or the 30mm.

The reason why the cold war tanks in storage were deteriorating is because the economical depression following the break-up of the USSR. Before 1990 everything was rather fine. Now they are getting there again, Russia has more natural resources and more potential than any other country in the world, obviously they want to have a good force to defend it with.
