Both teams are equally guilty of dirty play. Canada did some dirty stuff, USSR did some dirty stuff. Among all this rough, 70s-style hockey, Henderson scored and gave Canada the win.

This clip illustrates so well how Soviet hockey, with its emphasis on rigorous training, speed, puck control and passing humbled canadian-style hockey. Clarke's obstruction was beaten by Maltsev's speed and Clarke's retaliation was disgusting and shameful. Had this slash to the head occured in today's NHL, a minimum 20 games suspension would have been in order. Clarke's play and his subsequent slash on Kharlamov are a stain on our national game. Our win in 1972 was an illusion.

Some of the play by Team Canada was embarrassing and dirty. Russian team was much better conditioned and coached. If not for the slashing and intimidation from Canada they would have won easily.

The forward line of Ron Ellis, Paul Henderson & Bobby Clarke showed their ability consistently through the entire series. Clarke was a key element during that tournament and played some of his best hockey ever. That's his style true grit and Canada needed that style against those pink-o comi's in 1972. I guess that's why they were voted the Team of the Century. That was our finest hour boy's well done!!
