Yeah I remember watching this live. Texas Tech was a beast that year. Think it was the last year ever for the SWC. They lost to Allen Iverson and Georgetown in the elite 8. But Darvin was just intimidating to watch and play on the court.

The best part about that dunk was how Ham walked off after words like "Yeah I Broke That Bitch" lol that was wild. I saw that game on T.V when I was in Jr high. I remember being amazed. Because that was the first time I saw a dude do that on TV live!

Oh yeah, one other thing about this: just before leaving for the tourney, Darvin Hamm's little brother told him to "bring the backboard back for me". Guess Hamm took him literally :-)

1996 NCAA tourney, University of North Carolina versus Texas Tech. Darvin Hamm from Texas Tech *shattered* the backboard. Delayed play for 30 minutes to install a new backboard. Players went to locker rooms to shower out the glass from their hair. There was an incredible picture of the moment on the front cover of the next Sports Illustrated, with the word "Smashing!" in huge font. One of the best moments of college basketball ever!
