@BornGotikus Ah, but if you conform to the Goth image and scorn those who don't, that makes you a poser. There's a lot of pretention on the Goth world... The sort of people who used to love The Cure, but refused to listen to Them at all since they released Friday I'm In Love. I grew up around Goth culture (both my parents being originals), and have been a full blown Goth since I was 11, and I wear baggy black clothes and metal t-shirts, and anyone who tells me I'm not Goth can kiss my left one.

@twitchnihilax That is not the Goth image, and there's a difference between culture and subculture. The Gothic subculture is not based on the "Goth Rock" genre which evolved into "Gothic Metal". Gothic in music is a style, not a genre like Judas Priest's "Gothic Metal". Gothic Calssical, Gothic Pop, and any other genre out there, ex. "Gothic Calssical", Classical is the genre and Gothic is just the style so catagorizing a rich subculture into a metal genre is just an ignorant metalhead

@BornGotikus Are we actually having the same conversation? Who said Goth is a metal genre? And anyway, every real Goth invents their own image. I've spent at least 80% of my life around Goths, be it my dad and his friends, or my friends, or whatever. Some wear tight clothes, some baggy. Some wear cotton, leather, plastic, velvet, and chainmail, and none of them look remotely similar, apart from the colour scheme. Meaning, much as I hate the word, you are a poser with a superiority complex.

@BornGotikus I know what it isn't about, and that's being a pretentious elitist dickbiscuit who believes themselves to be on a higher plane of existence because they refuse to conform, and have the Goth Wikipedia page memorised. I am a Goth because it FEELS RIGHT, not because I'm trying to be different to everyone else. I can laugh and sit in the sun and climb trees 'cos I don't have any hangups, and it'll be with me for life, just as it has with my old man.

It's a subculture, not a culture because there is no Gothic religion, the name comes from the European interpretation of Gothic architecture adopted from the extinct Germanic Goths. To Goths, the colour black represents equality, Goths are separate from metalhead goths through a mild Victorian influence like a darker, milder version of the Steampunk subculture and keeping up with modern life. It's a darker side of society

As most Goths will tell you, it's about individuality and non-conformism, meaning that Goths who stick by the Goth guidelines are the biggest posers of all, and henceforth, not Goth. I dunno about Canadia, but in England, Goth doesn't have guidelines.

@twitchnihilax My old pic was just a headshot with a band flag behind me, I just looked at Wiki now to see that some of what I said was there but what the subculture is based on is entirely different. It is not about non-conforming, we are attached to traits of our subculture just as anyone is attached to traits of their own culture and we don't shun the pop-culture as a whole as many believe.

It is not something you can be born into, so you need to know all of what it is about to be one.

if this is dancing to you, then i'm afraid that you have absolutely no clue as to how a "goth" dances. i used quotes simply for the fact that someone wears all black, usually is misconstrued as being goth, when the term actually goes much deeper than someones style of dress. try a little research every now and again ignoramus.
