i had the same problem they only work nicely with grog ink/paints and even then only on painted surfaces or they do a weird poofy thing on metal or plastic..or thats at least what happened to me

Making a marker is kind of like common sense. If your nib is too thin, ink will go through it easily, if it's too thick, it'll have trouble. If your nib has any gaps, it'll come out. If you tip it upside down, it will leak.

i added some ashes from a fire in my ink it seemed to thiken it a bit. but im not sure.
