I wonder if your dog could work better if you guided its state of mind and way of doing by the colour and rhythm of your voice and would let the dog think a little bit more by itself, giving it only general or rough guidelines of what it is supposed to do. Kind of calm it down a little bit but livelily, by your own example, so as to make it work more steadily and finely tunedly.

But to be honest, I have never had a border collie, just always admire them! Good luck for you two!
