Honestly i heard i few nice and tight little vibrato bends and some decent scale runs but not one single nice phrase or anythingn not to mention shit tone...everybody is saying this solo is epic and dont get me wrong as an avid fan of DP i get that its awesome in the context of this song but its a shit song too and im just not hearing epicness....
GO CHECK OUT DESPERATE HEART SOLO AND CANT LET U GO- THATS ALL RITCHIE BROTHER, WHAT MADE ME PICK UP THE GUITAR AT 12 YRS OLD, HES JUST A SPECIAL PLAYER
WHEN I SAY FIRST NOTES.... IT AINT.. WHAT UR THINKIN, PLUS HES GOT AN OCTAVER ON THE SOLO, DONT MATTER, ITS WHY ..ITS HIM LOVE THE DELAY.. HAND THROW AT THE END, IF U DONT GET IT , STOP WATCHING
THEN LOOK AT JOE WITH ROGER, THATS WHAT HE WAS FEELIN, LOVE JOE , GREAT GUY AND NOT GAY LOL.. BUT RITCHIE I THINK COULD ONLY HANDLE SO MUCH DRUNKNESS LOL
It's all here...JLT's cheese ball front man (good voice), Glover's dad dancing (good bass playing), A classic Blackmore 'fuck you' look at 3.28-3.35...with a solo you know is him.
What is up with the fuzz/octave sound for this whole gig though? Was he trying to piss people off in his usual Blackmore way?
Ritchie Blackmore is so underated, people always bang on about Page and fuckin Clapton, hes a bit of an enigma and very difficult to get on with hence all the different line ups hes been in and thats just Deep Purple.
Not only does this blow the studio version out of the water, but it contains (in my opinion) the greatest Blackmore solo ever. If someone asked me why I was a fan of this particular guitarist, I'd answer simply, "Listen to the version of 'I Surrender' from Rainbow's final gig in 1984." They wouldn't need to hear anything else. From crying desperation to grim resignation and back again...this solo sounds as fresh and inspired as it did 27 years ago.
@Pin33 You're right, many guitarists do not understand ,but if they heard they would know that guitarists like Eddie Van Halen formed his playing on the infuence of Blackmore, just listen to the solo Hot For Teacher. Many of the licks used by Eddie come from Blackmore. The truth is Blackmore is the most underrated guitarist I know... at least in america. Regards
@Pin33 ...Bro, I could not have said it better myself, I think the solo is one of Ritchie's finest moments. I also feel that this is the perfect band. Ritchie's playing combined with Joe Lynn Turner's vocals and Roger Glovers Bass is just amazing. Too bad Ritchie is not into Rock music anymore.
no por eso digo que en el studio haces milagros no esque si se puede pero no es lo mismo grabarla en pastes que cantarla toda completa si ni el mismo cantante original la puede cantar bien esque si derepente los cantantes se ponen agudos demasiado bañados
I saw Rainbow on the "Difficult to Cure "tour in81, Rose Tattoo were support. I was 12 at the time ,me and my mate had sent off to the Rainbow fan club for tickets but they never arrived so his dad wrote to them just before the show. We were told to knock on the back door which we did and were let in and led backstage down a corridor passing Richies dressing room . We were given a huge green sticker each which were backstage passes. I,ll never forget that night.
@couch63 No, we didnt get to speak to them, i wish i had though. When we arrived at The Apollo in Manchester we were expecting to be given tickets like everyone else.
It was one of the greatest concerts ive had the pleasure of being at.
@magicbus144 Funny ...just last night i was listening to lots of rose tattoo ...in your honest opinion - how did you find rose tattoo that night ? It just does not sound like an ideal match - still , maybe it was great ?
I always thought they were a great Australian band -easily as good as ac dc - you ????
Looks like Chuck Burgii on drums. He was a monster, very underated drummer. The octave divider is what it is but the solo isn't bad. If you want to hear a crappy live solo check out Page 1975 and later.
Dude, read in between the lines, i love Rainbow and Blackmore's twin harmony parts on I Surrender are legendary just so dissapointed with his choice of notes and use of an ''octaver'' which as the name suggests plays the same line Ritchie plays but only an octave [ 8 notes ] lower, when youve known the record for years imho he should just played the lower harmony for the first 4 bars of the re-intro and the higher harmony for the second,i,ve played this live many times and i know what works.
@musicfunkydude Well, every guitarist have his own style so does Blackmore. One of the greatest..I dont think u can say that Jimi Hendrix played totally straight after the book either.. Blackmore is an ecxentric person so is his guitarstyle. But put on Spotlight Kid & try send in a guitarcover and let me hear u play the classical guitar theme in same speed Then I bow in the dust & the octave-errors u talk about is just ??But if its Malmsteen guitar you wanna hear, then u are a wrong place bro!
@musicfunkydude u cant hold ritchies jock, lotta feel goin on that u missed , sounds like total blackmore to me, and i listen to lane, guthrie, malmsteen -most things technically good -and i play them as well-no substitute for blackmore- his bends and choice of notes-i feel him , dont understand how u dont, lol, dude is a BADASS!
