  • dooes anybody have any idea to what pedal(s) hes using at 4:31? i already have a tube screamer which is pretty spot on for his 1st solo. but 4 the 2nd solo idk. i thought he just changed pickups and used the tube screamer but it looks like he stays with the same one for the whole song.

  • 4:31 is amazing.

  • he rocks the world

  • Yea, my favourite zebra ever!

  • 240p and still fucking badass. they're so tight, good performance. And I even noticed some Jimi Hendrix stylish head twists when John solo'd, love it.

  • Oh. Ohhh. Eargasm

  • i found waldo (:

  • i like 0:00 til 6:07

    .

  • someone know the name of this concert??

    its amaizing!!!

  • @acardosog john mayer live at Austin City Limits

  • @acardosog its at austin city limits

  • Love that "nah, nah" riff on sax combined with Mayer's voice !

  • hr may be ugly.but damn, he s a damn good guitar player

  • @ANNA00732 who are u to judge ppl ugly?

  • Had the awesome privilege of standing feet away from him on this day as he played this set and meeting him afterwards. He is a super great guy in person!!!

  • Gotta love the shirt

  • Where can I buy the video of this entire performance? I can't seem to find the link on the PBS Austin website anywhere!!

  • what's wrong with the guitar

  • @edwin523 What do you mean? All I see is a vintage American Fender Strat being very well played.

  • @edwin523 it was designed to look that way, so that theres not too much paint on the body so that the guitar can "resonate". Theres a documentary on that guitar on yotuube, look it up :).

  • omfg is he a prisoner!?!?!

  • RESPECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • an hour of concentrated of john mayer may make my head explode.

  • This guy can talk and play guitar without lose the rhithym... Awesome...

  • i'm addicted to this part..from 3:46 to 4 :06

  • Love J J's drums on this...especially the intro. He's got the uneven drum patterns in the intro, almost gave me the feeling that he wasn't in control. But he was!!!

  • "Now an hour with John Mayer"...ok so wheres my other 54 minutes bitch

  • That was a sick intro. Hope I could ever be that good. Does anybody know if that was ad lib?

  • This song makes my cock throb uncontrollably.

  • John is one of those rare people who's tapped into something that really gives meaning to why you live at all. I don't know what you call it, but I'd describe it as a kind of elusive electrical energy that's invisible until it's materialized in a form all of us can witness. When I hear John play I want to sit down and listen, I know something special is about to happen. What I would give to be tapped into that in my own life.

  • @reawaken14 AMEN

  • ok its 275 against 3 haha guess who wins(:

  • what pedals kicks in at 4:30 ? sick sound , like pete cornish fuzz ?

  • Easily the best solo of all time.

  • :)

  • Actually it sounds like a john mayer tune. If you dont like john mayer you dont like music.

  • where was this?

  • @gookingwenceslas looks like david letterman :)

  • oh, and thumbs up if the end sounds like a Phil Collins tune... and if you don't know Phil Collins, you don't like music.

  • @Hesthewizeguy i've always thought that. the nah nahs especially. i hear a lot of sting, too.

  • @dlein93 ya, i hear that too!

  • dear god that's my favorite solo of all time

  • Oh shit. Gotta change my pants now. Am i the only one that shot a load in the pants after watching this?

    John Mayer. You rock:D

  • anyone know what octave-fuzz he uses for the solo after the breakdown?

  • @martyAD its either an Ultimate Octave, an Electroharmonix Microsynth or a Dunlop Octavio

  • I like his striped shirt

  • ....awesome piece!!...he`s an underrated song writer....truly unique!!!..

  • Dear John Mayer,

    Please tour for like, ever.

    Preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. <3

And, I know you know when I tell you that you are frickin' giftedly sick on the electric guitar, to the point where my ipod shuffle always stops when you come on. That's "I got your BACK love", right there. Yep.

  • @leafofallcolors well said my friend :)

  • muito bom!

  • everything about this is amazing. even that striped shirt.

  • Some say that women's pants just jump off when he starts playing and they hear that tone...

  • i've said it before and i'll say it again and i'll keep sayin it...this was the best line up he ever put together. fact.

  • @JamonjiCahillibongo 4:32 til 4:51 is amazing!

  • @JamonjiCahillibongo

I'd swap JJ for steve jordan. though their both great, just preference. plus I'd have pino AND dela.

  • @chillguitardude10 ... I love JJ can't swap it !!!

  • 2 people have never loved anything more than they love themselves.

  • Can someone please contact me if they have the mp3 of this version? I tried downloading from YouTube but the quality isn't perfect. This isn't loud enough in my headphones.

  • @ChozzieBoy mayer austin city limits in google then you download the show in video (the one i found is a mp4), dont mix up with the austin city limits festival, this here is the tv show, but if you just type mayer austin city limits you'll get this one i'll think. then you cut it and convert to mp3 and you're good:)

  • 2 people seem to have confused the dislike button with a 'dis i like' button..

  • When did John Mayer do Austin City Limits for the secound time?!!?! does anyone have anymore info about this video?

  • "Now an hour with John Mayer" I would kill just to have just 5 mins with him. I bet that crowd didnt know how lucky they were.

  • Check out my cover of "Belief" on my channel please! Thank you :)

  • 2 people took up guitar and failed.

  • my volume won't go any higher. i just want this song in my brain all the time.

  • tight......

  • GREAT DRUMSSS!!!!

  • anyone who plays guitar (lead or rhythm), sings, writes songs or performs live -- this is the non-plus ultra of music.. everything you ever need to know is in this video :)

  • this is where i'm goin

  • My life is now complete!;)

    I love this

  • My ears just have sex :)

  • Bobby in the back on soprano sax!!

  • The top he's wearing makes me think he's justbroken out of a cartoon prison!!

  • who was the idiot that disliked this vid? I hate that crap...

  • omg wtf bbq hes awesome

  • I love his guitar playing. His voice needs a bit of edge for my taste, but amazing guitarist nonetheless.

  • The person who voted thumbs down is probably a JM hater. Only then you can be blind enough to not see how good he is, especially live.

  • He uses a keeley moded ts 808 tube screamer, a katana clean boost. A way huge aqua puss analog delay, and a keeley moded boss blues driver to get that sound. In this performance he most definitely is using racks for other effects.

  • Marry Me?

  • im GONNA SEE YOU PERFORM THIS FRIDAY SEE YOU HERE IN PHILIPPINES!!!

  • anyone know that pedal he uses at 4:32?

  • @theosu809 I want to know too what pedal he uses; i don't have the exact answer , i bought the fulltone ultimate octave but it's not the same tone...i think it's near tone of Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio ?????? what do you think ?

  • He missed the time of soil

  • JJ Johnson is using traditional grip now but in Abbey Road Studios he's matched...

  • @Mharr1s why did Steve Jordan stop touring with him?

  • bring it John...Bringt that shit..I can take it

  • When was this ?

  • This song really is something else, so cool.

  • This seriously sounds better each time I listed to it, so epic! John Mayer is a genius

  • He is so freakin awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • 4:13...Love the tone of david ryan harris' guitar..

  • steve jordan is so in the pocket

  • @viperdude1412 the drummer in this video is actually j.j. johnson. steve jordan did the studio work, and is currently drumming on the battle studies tour.

  • @ihaveanenzoandphat steve jordan isn't touring with anymore. It's keith carlock now...

  • he makes the greatest in the world stop and listen. He is the absolute hands down numero uno.

  • Gravity from this show was the shit, I don't see it on yt...maybe I'll upload it.

  • Galing talaga...the best:D

  • Wow this is the best live John Mayer I've ever seen.

  • Wait OGNOGN, How can you possibley quote John Mayer's belief as Bubblegum college rock? you clearly havent listened to Continuum or Battle Studies. Or the complexity of his music.. looser

  • He's more important than you, even with that bubblegum college rock, that made him famous in the first place.

    Wait

  • Can you imagine how important Mayer would seem had he not done bad bubblegum college rock?

  • @OGNOGN Haha good one. as a fan i must agree also...

  • It says an hour with John Mayer, the videos that have been added on YouTube from this concert can`t be 1 hour together, that means there must be more songs from this concert! Where are the videos hiding???

  • you need get John Mayer austin, its a rough hour, more like 54 minutes...lol really great show eh?

  • I got them!! It`s one of his best imo! :)

  • which pedal is john using at the bridge for the solo?

    at 4:23

  • sounds likesome kind of pitcher or octave - pedal

  • its some kind of fuzz/octave effect

  • Just Mayer is easily the greatest musician of this entire decade, and probably the last decade also.

  • @DreadfulSolemnity I agree man, how many dang Grammys does the dang guy have to get before people get it ,he is one of the best of the best. And he getting them in an industry the has pasted away. long live John Mayer

Inducted him to the rock in roll hall of fame now before he dies or maybe that what he needs to do before all you give him the respected he has earned off the sweat of his hard work and talent.Who ever dislikes this talented Musician is a Jealous no talent ass clown.

  • @DreadfulSolemnity greatest, best etc are all a matter of opinion and hard to measure, however I agree that this guy is just outa this world!

  • @DreadfulSolemnity Yeah and for once I'm so happy too many people are too stubborn to realise this or to open their eyes. At least we got him for ourselves (together with a bunch of girls)

  • This is incredible. It is amazing to hear real music on television. Where was this?

  • Austin city limits ( one of the best places in texas!!!)

  • Damn this is epic. When was this and where?

  • Austin city limits sometime in '07

  • this is awesome. no questions asked.

  • JJ Johnson and John Mayer are amazinggg!!!!!

  • good god. that tone, that tone.

  • two rocks, a dumble, and skill/talent out the wazoo will do that

  • hours and hours with John Mayer ... John, I'd come to live with you tomorrow 9 am!

  • @kcebdarb sounds just like a radiohead tune I cant think of, but yeah tone is great.

  • @kcebdarb Good god the pricetag... Guitar and amp alone would run you well over 10k...

  • @DTrucksEnthusiast you mean ... the guitar ALONE ... those CS Relics go for 15K, add an extra 3K for the Two-Rock and about a K for various pedals and you'll be set. Writing this, I realize JM is one of the most expensive music players out there ...

  • @gabrieltsiry Yeahh if you watch the studio video with himself, charlie hunter, and steve jordan doin in repair he pulls out his pedal collection... that being hundreds of them and in some cases 4 or 5 of the same pedal, takes up multiple tables.. AND he does in fact have over 200 guitars in his collection. I'd ballpark his total equipment stock aroundddd $200,000ish??? insanityy

  • @DTrucksEnthusiast it has to be even more than that. I mean just one of his dumbles can cost $50,000 alone! I remember reading he has like the most of them in the world or something too!

  • Some of his very best guitar work

  • Csíkos pulcsis, arany középút hajú John Mayer.

  • ezt mire írod?

  • This is at least as good as it should be :)

    Hahh.

What I'm meaning is that this is the most best constructed song I've heard between those million other songs I did.

I'm sticking as a stamp to this Animal making his music.

    Zoy.

  • haha thats funny

and yeah, it is pretty amazing

i dunno if this is better or worst than in LA

  • i like both..

but i kinda like this one more lol

  • this versions solo is amazing!

and for those wondering this is from the Austin City Limits concert. there are torrents somewhere on the interwebs if you search for em

  • THANKS dude!

  • jailbird

  • best intro of life lol

  • what pedal do you think he is using at 4:23? fulltone ultimate octave? sounds sweet and squishy!

  • @3singlesntheblues I want to know too what pedal he uses; i don't have the exact answer , i bought the fulltone ultimate octave but it's not the same tone...i think it's near tone of Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio ?????? what do you think ?

  • again. this version is one of his best!!

awesome.look forward to the next album!!

    gimme more of that!! :)

  • wow that was a perfect performance!!!!!!!

  • The best!!!

  • best

  • I really dont think there is anyone better out there

  • There's something really special about this live show. Very similar to "Any given Thursday" of JM's pop days. Whereas "Where the Light Is" has the sickest Trio blues/rock with Steve Jordan and Pino.

  • cool place! this is where SRV played on right?! and eric johnson.. and so many other players.. nicee

  • Austin Texas I think.

  • Agreed the tone is aurual sex

  • that moment at 4.31 till 4.52 is one of the greatest pedal sounds ive ever heard in a live situation .And just for them 4 notes at 4.35/36 is why i reply this video over and over. The guy is special for my generation of musician, people who know about music already know this but in a few years he will be remembered as a great by the masses.

  • I agree with you man !

  • Couldn`t agree more!

  • @folkopera50 that sound is even better in the where the light is version look it up EARGASM!!!

  • @folkopera50 I've spent a lot of time trying to emulate that sound perfectly... Here's the key...

    Compression at the right level

Classic V shape on EQ pedal

A good box of rocks for your distortion... IDK what he uses though, I like my Seymour Dunk Power Grid... gets it really good!

  • @Hesthewizeguy 2 words: Octave Fuzz

  • @folkopera50 Both guitar tones are sick, man. The intro (in the 4th pickup position) and the 1st solo with the Tubescreamer, the one you mentioned with the Octavia (or whatever it is), and the ending solo with the Tubescreamer again and the neck pickup position is also the sound of heaven :P

  • how come only "gravity" is taken out

  • besides his soloing, what impresses me most about mayer is his ability to play complicated riffs and sing at the same time

  • seriously,

its funny to think like hes sittin at home makin a funky riff,

then he has the audacity to say im gona sing over this

    absolutely redick

  • @caspersvapors True that, and his ability to write those riffs and lyrics.

  • this kid can play

  • 3:30 -> 4:50 Never gets old

  • i actually prefer 4:30 - 4:52 lol

  • cool intro :)

  • the intro is the shit

  • this, with the live earth variation of it, are the best alterations of this song.

  • check out the crossroads '07 version :D

  • check out the where the light is version
