  • Question: I'm only a white belt, but we were working on takedowns tonight (in Florida), and we were taught not to put the head to the side on a take down, because of guillotine choke. We were told to put the head against the belly. Is that correct? In this video, is he not open to get choked by guillotine? Thanks.

  • @jamesfwagner I'm a white belt as well (in Louisiana). I was taught to put the head on the side. Notice how Professor Leleo has her legs at :25. He squeezes them together from preventing her to put him in a guard where the guillotine would occur. He has his head on the side so he's already set up for the arm triangle

  • @jamesfwagner The best way is to keep your head up high as if you're looking to the ceiling. A lot of people try to put their chin on their chest, but this doesn't work, ultimately. So put your neck and arm under his armpit so his arm get pushed up and he reach for a guillotine.

Also, because you kep your head far up, you won't hit the floor.
