  • I love this video and the song (and Del of course). Adorable little kid in the beginning ... if that was 1963 and that baby was about a year and a half or two, that would make her around 51 today. Wonder if she ever watches this video and realizes what a part of history she was? I miss Del Shannon; wish he was still around, making music.

  • ya know its not surprising to me how yall love these oldies so muchif you could only teach todays generation that you can sill like this music and be cool, the kids today gotta fit in we didnt have that prob. havin fun was cool there is a big buiss. out there if you could promote it, ty younguns for supporting this gig we are very lucky

  • Del Shannon one of the Greats! when the chrome was thick and the women where straight! makes me cry what's happening with the music today wish we could turn back clock

  • who could'nt like Del

  • great music one of the best ever

  • hit after hit; that describes DEL SHANNON...

  • Great song, but it works bothways u know for men and women.

  • what a grea post!Thanks!

  • One of the best of all time. If he's not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame then something is terribly wrong.

  • too bad del, did himself in, if only could have hung on. he"d have realized, what areat influence he had on the music world, saddly missed del, you wrere one of the best , tom petty probably, could have got you straightened out , you"re memory lives on

  • damnit shoulda listened to Del Shannon!!!

  • Yep...The old days... Very nice. ;)

  • I just wish he appreciated himself as much as we all do now or he wouldn't have ended his own life in 1990. He would still be alive today and be a testimony to some of the greatest music ever produced. Long live Del Shannon's music!

  • rip del shannon,,,,

  • damn it ,,i guess i was born way too late ,why could,nt i have been around in the 60,s :-( these songs are FANTASTIC

  • @TheTeecee65 likewise, and lucky we were

  • @SickyTatson No your the idiot all rap/hiphop does is promote racial hatred, 50s/60s

    music never did that.

rap/hiphop is also not music its bloody annoying, i mean come on if you want to sing then sing but please dont talk fast to an annoying backbeat made up electronic machines, its talentless crap and never will be anything else.

you dont like it then go away and listen to your rap crap but dont call people idiots because you are

  • I always thought that john lennon may have gotten the idea for "I Call Your Name" from this song

  • @inkey2 As a huge Beatles fan, I wouldnt be surprised. American artists were a huge influence on John & Pauls's songwriting, and this number is certainly Orbison-esque and Beatle-ish.

  • Highly enviable. Look at 'im: He's surrounded by babes, he's a rock star, big collared open V-neck, beach house. C'mon. That's the life.

  • This video is from "Where The Action Is", right? I remember watching this program every afternoon after school! Those were the good old days :)! *****

  • Good drums in this classic 60's tune

  • Dallas...1962-63. Ridgewood Park Methodist church. I was chasing both Harriet Tilley and Kathy LaBarbara around ....never caught them but it was a glorious chase. This song brings back a flood of memories. i hope Harriet and kathy are well.

  • Fuck Prozac for taking Del Shannon from us!

  • the record company screwed del big time

  • My wife and I were lucky enough to win some tickets from our Local Radio Station to see Del in Windsor Ontario for one of his last to be concerts. He died a short time later. It was one of the greatest concerts I have seen to this day. Damn I miss this music. There is nothing today that compares to this. Miss the hell out of you Del. Steve & Kathy L.

  • I have this album on CD.

  • Thanks Del; we all miss you!

  • i agree this was his best song..great singer

  • I am good friends with his nephew Chuck and listen to his music often, one of the best!

  • I feel this is Del's best song, just perfect for his absolutely fantastic voice.

  • Looks like he may have been as good a guitar player as he was a singer. Great upload thanks

  • @MrSpringtime - um, Rock N Roll/R&B was "black", ding-dong. As is/was Jazz and a tone of other amazing creative staples of American life. Yes, rap is mostly garbage but that's just because of the content - just like most radio pop/rock/country these days - it has nothing to do with race or liberal agenda.

    Del Shannon was a genius.

  • Is the kinescope from Where the Action Is?

  • yes he is gone but he still is the late great and most talented male singer of the 60's bar -non..R.I.P. Del......1949sorful...

  • amen about rap and hip hop garbage. the liberals promote anything that is black and from the dark side of the ghetto..all part that socialist agenda.

rap and hip hop is the rearend of the music industry

  • @MrSpringtime22 Spoken or written in this case, with the blunt truth! The point is, there are deeper psycho-social reasons for all the nasty hip-hip rap crap out there, basically the music industry is in denial that jamming this crap down our throat was the wrong thing to do, so what do they do? reinforce it even more it so they can feel vindicated that people "like" it, while making crack / cocaine-like profits in the meantime. Also the cable service providers are in bed with them as well...

  • I don't know if Del Shannon is in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, or not. If he isn't, he definitely belongs there. His songs are timeless. Who can remember two of Mariah Carey's so callled hits? All her songs sound the same. Do we really need any more Justin Bieber or Willow Smith. Let's can the crappy music. Long live rock!

  • @sixpack07747 Hey i totally agree with you 100% good comment.1949sorful...

  • Great Classic Rock and Roll....what era to have grown up in and listened to all the great 50 and 60 singers male and female and all to gal groups as well as all of the great bands of that era.....1949sorful

  • Back when they danced around the topic rather than simply singing about 'hookers and hos.'

  • really enjoyed your video

if you get the time please check out my video "sweet little dream of mine "

  • Wow-I never heard this one. I knew Runaway, and saw this link. I am more into 50's rock, but a few 60's songs I dig too, and I am startin to like more of Del Shannon. I love this beat I am boppin my head up and down and alternating sides.

  • choon

  • Del Shannon was able to get the rights to his music in the 1970s. Bug Music was founded in 1975 to manage his songs and is probably the most famous music publisher that makes sure composers get their royalities.

  • this song is just amazing!

  • This guy had some great songs!

  • tht happened to me.... f **kin slut

  • Jeff Lynne redid this song also. Jeff and Del are best buds...

  • Esta epoca es para mi la mas prolifera en talentos y buena musica

  • Pure magic.

  • ONE OF THE GREATS IN ROCK AND ROLL

  • I too saw Del many times during the seventies in clubs around Madison Wisc.and shared good times between sets..RIP Del

  • long liveeeeee del shannons music he was one of the besttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • long liveeeeee del shannons music he was one of the besttttttttttt

  • @64goldenoldies

you are so right...diarrhea, rap, hop & lock stock and barrel.... I'm still stuck in the 60s, 70s & 80s,,,,,then, the music just went dudu...roq

  • Del Shannon is definately among the league of geniuses...which ended somewhere in the early 80's..might not be immediately obvious, but all this stuff is my main inspiration

  • @POINTBLANKaustralia spot on there mate

  • @POINTBLANKaustralia There were some geniuses in the latter 80's. Europe were one of them if you listen to some of their other stuff aswell as the final countdown. Real music like this died when black people lost all talent and decided to make rap and Hip Hop and other such 'contributions' to music!!

  • @spikeman14

Yes. The single most tragic event in the history of music in the world was when the music industry bought into the phony music called rap and hip hop, which is noise diarrhea from the ghetto. They promoted it, lock, stock and barrel.

Now, the irony is, with all of the sophisticated high tech music playback electronics at our disposal, we are stuck without talented musicians to listen to.

I would love to start my own radio station and play the "Best of the B Side Hits".

  • @glaetze i am not advocating this idea...but.....you could start your own "pirate radio station"......low power transmitters are not expensive. I am sure you can find a web site on "how to start a pirate radio station"

  • @inkey2 I knew a guy in college in the late 60's who used to broadcast from his student dorm room. Even then the FCC would try to track him down for his illegal and unlicensed broadcasts. With the tracking equipment they have now anyone trying their own station could be found easily and the fines can be huge. It would be fun right up until you are caught.

  • @glaetze I agree with you 100% this is classic and will never go out RIP Del...19149sorful

  • @glaetze your right the golden age of songwriting is over

  • @glaetze

Well here is a narrow minded fuckhead ha ha

  • @glaetze correctamondo

  • @glaetze your an idiot, each demographic of people holds on to their own type of music to get them thru the days, yea maybe you hate rap/hip hop, but there are people that without 2pac, biggie, nas, all theese other rapers to speak for them would be gone. who are you to decide whats music and what isnt? what have you ever contributed to the world of music you musical snob

  • @glaetze Yea, the music today is crap because they don't give artists a chance to develop anymore. If they do not score immediately with a hit, you are out. So we are left with crap. Most of the stuff since 1990 has been junk....

  • @glaetze Maybe one day people will realize that and only accept genuine music. Ha who am I kidding!? At least the same technology gives younger guys like me a chance to listen to the good stuff.

  • @glaetze Oh boy you are so right. Utter drivel pretending to be music. The kids brains must be warped from all the dope or something.

  • @glaetze : What do you expect when the "entertainment" on TV is X Factor and Big Brother? Little talentless wannabees running around.....

  • @glaetze Gotta agree with you-95% of the crap today doesn't even deserve to be called music-it's noise- nobody will remember any of it in another 10 years-do take exception to your use of the word ghetto-a great deal of music today and in last 10 years has nothing to do with black culture and your remark could be construed as racist

  • @POINTBLANKaustralia Yes, Del is up with Roy Orbison and The Everly's, maybe even Buddy Holly. You can hear his influence on Neil Young. I understand he was considered to be one of the Traveling Wilburys. I also love "Rag Doll" Peace

  • @POINTBLANKaustralia Well said!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i found about this song today in the morning while listening to the radio and i found out about del shannon yesterday he's already become one of my favorite artists

  • Do songs nowadays even use background vocals anymore or even have melodies? It has gotten so bad musically for me I don't even bother to listen to new music.

  • love this tune

  • I find the background vocals and the drumming particularly delightful on this one.

  • Reminds me Harriet Tilley, Dallas , Texas. I hope you are well.

  • Just LOVE this. Deb

  • Dell Shannon - One of the best rocker, writer, & musicians of all times!

    HS

  • Nothing reminds me more of the early 60's than the music of Del Shannon. What a legend!

  • GOD-DAMN PROZAC... R.I.P. DEL

  • Unfortunately Del, who suffered from periodic depression decided to take Prozac (like many SSRI anti-depressants can cause suicidal thoughts and impulses) in the days preceding his death and many people, his wife included, observed the negative personality changes and were sure it led to his suicide. Del was a musical genius and made a lot of people happy long after he had his big hits. This video is great for those of us too young to remember his heyday, like that baby at the beginning.

  • He never realized how much we loved his music. Those were the days when dancing and loving was all that we cared about....how the world has changed!

  • How diddy die ?

  • @PogoFogo Suicide

  • @PogoFogo he blew his brains out with a rifle

  • @wayneypayney Y diddy do that

  • @PogoFogo Suffering from depression, Shannon committed suicide on February 8, 1990, with a .22 caliber rifle at his home in Santa Clarita, CA.

  • Incredible music here. Nothing today even comes close. So sad the state of music today. Del was fantastic. What on earth has happened to music?? Why don't they write songs like this anymore?

  • a pop masterpiece here,,and a whole lot of fun on the video side with all these 'fliriting' lovelies on the beachdeck.

    so simple those times seemed.

    jctoronto

  • Go Del you had it and you gave what you had. WOW what a voice. We miss you mate.

  • Del Shannon did so much good music and everyone screwed him and was broke when he killed himself, and the Rock hall of Shame waited until he was dead before he was inducted,so he was screwed ever step of the way except by his fans, what a great talent.

  • One of my fave songs by him. R.I.P. Del.

  • I wish I could duplicate Del's falsetto. One of the purest voices from the Rock 'n Roll era. Music today just cannot compare.

  • Good to hear this one again - one of my first 45 vinyl purchases - all for 6s 8d UK:-)

    Great singer, great song.

  • wish I could have been around in dells last days, I could have helped , maybe , . . . lonliness sucks , . . . russell the wizzard on myspace

  • people you should listen to electric light orchestra version @ watch?v=IyAkvXNfEOQ its really lovely song :3

lol im only 13 but i love that kind of songs so much

  • did u say the young sisters sing backup.???? who are they in england we aint heard of them..???

  • tof

  • too bad Del shot himself to death. He must have really been depressed. One of my all time favs.

  • @DavidSanfordE I think it is AWESOME u have a love of music at other levels! I was born in Anaheim, CA, in the 60's. My parents used to take us to the beach where u could see acts on the amphitheaters for free! I can remember it seemed like all the neighbors had "garage bands." These ORIGINAL artists really shaped the rockers of today. I STILL have the car my parents bought new (I learned 2 drive in it!) a 1967 Mustang, so I get my own flashback! I totally agree with you. These r cool tunes:)

  • This song reminds me of Harriet Tilley--Dallas 1963

  • Another of his songs that hit your right in the Heart: I miss those days ands music of the times. He may be gone, but his music will live forever.

  • that is music

  • I loved everything he sang but this was my favorite. The gals singing in the background made this song for me. Hard to believe but all those lovely girls dancing around him are now all great grandmothers:)

  • I would give anything to find out where this video was recorded. The dancers are extreemly great, and I love the song also

  • Heard this in a bar in Thunder Bay Ontario Canada, The Princess. Still gets me dancing!!!!!!

  • 60's and 70's, music, that will never be repeated in our life time. so many memories, When music was someting from the HEART:-) Not like they call music now adays...RAP Sh**T is not music. It's Crap. This is music.

Love it all from then and to this day, love it even more. What memories

  • I've had a handful of artists that defined me as a person, who's music I later on always try to recreate, artists that I admire and at the same time dwarf me, knowing that I will never be a great as them. Del Shannon is one of them. He has been with me ever since I was a little child and this is my favourite Del Shannon song.

  • I was just shy of my 11th birthday when I heard ont he radio that Del, took his own life. I was so sad becuse I admired his music and his melodic voice! RIP DEL!

  • i love this song!!!!

  • Saw Dell perform at a great venue the NY Academy of Music in 1972, both sadly long gone. He was one of the most amazing live performers i've ever seen. This is my favorite Del Shannon record (and the 2nd 45 I bought !) unfortunately he didn't perform it that night. Is this video from Where the Action Is ?

  • @misterten2 Yep. I like this even more than I like Runaway. Great lyrics, melody, and arrangement. love the Young Sisters on back up. I sorely miss this guy. As a fellow Michiganian, I related to his music in an intimate way. But never got to see him perform live. I did visit his plaque in his hometown of Coopersville.

  • @coyotesong I am a fellow Michigander, I don't know who "Michiganians" are. I'm from Grand Rapids, a few miles from his hometown. Saw him once in an "oldies" show, but his performance was not typical of those shows, he still rocked.

  • makes me pissed off that i wasnt alive back then :P

  • It was a good time to grow up in but where all old know and you will have you great times to look back on

  • Don't be pissed. Think about it. You think people were sitting around watching music videos in 1965? It was boring compared to today dude. Be glad you're young enough to enjoy these cool tunes today. Besides, if you were alive then you probably would have ended up going to Vietnam. Think about it.

  • You can see why he's wearing that cake-eating grin! Great stuff

  • What a melody. They don't make melodies anymore like this with all the background vocals.

The songs today have to drag on for 5 or 6 minutes with no strong melody.

  • Does anybody know who's home this was filmed at? Any other related info would be loved :)

  • I was not filmed at a home. It was filmed at Ocean City. South of Cape May NJ.

  • Do you mean Ocean City, MD? Ocean City, NJ is north of Cape May. Is the 522 in your username a reference to Highway 522?

  • you re right it is north. And no 522 is not a hwy.

  • There is a NJ secondary 522 that goes from Freehold to Kingston. And a US 522 that goes from Selinsgrove, PA to Powhatan, VA. I guess you mean you chose the 522 in your username from something else.

  • As my grandma said," Money is the root of all evil".I'd say that depression is perhaps the no. 2 problem for just about everybody.

  • i saw del live at the talk of the west cornwall, in the seventies, he was great, his voice sounded just the same as on the old 45,s

  • Pretty much accurate, the artists may have been ripped off a bit but that was nothing compared to the session people

  • Del Shannon was quite popular when I was in High School. I liked the music then, and still enjoy hearing it today at 63.

  • I had the privilege of seeing Del Shannon live at the Country Aire in Appleton, WI in the late 70's. By then he was drinking heavily and depressed, but on stage the old Del came out and played the most awesome licks I ever heard. I understand he had a room in his garage he called his crying room where he would compose music and cry. Thieves in the music industry stole most of his earnings and he was only allowed to keep gate receipts from live performances. Greed is ruining this country!

  • @Toastrman The music industry back in the day ripped dozens of artists off. They have gotten a little better, but today's artists realize that they had better pay close attention to the contracts before they sign.

  • Yes, it's unfortunate that so many great creative ideas come from people only 16 or 17 years old and don't realize the value of their creations. From the days when Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster thought up Superman and signed away all their rights to DC Comics to Flo and Eddie from the Turtles who couldn't perform under their real names because a music industry exploiter owned them history keeps repeating itself. You'd think some of these people would feel some guilt after a while and relent.

  • Greed is soulless.

  • Greed has all but wrecked the country. Unfortunately, we haven't yet seen the end of the fallout from the bubble burst. Ah, bankers, you gotta love their greedy little excuses for souls.

  • Yes how true, I always thought prostitution was illegal, but some of the biggest whores in the US control our money and smile while they stick it to us.

  • @Toastrman

those jews will do it ever time. did the same to buddy holly.

  • @Toastrman that was all too common a story in the 50s/60s/70s , Rock/pop artists getting screwed out of royalities etc. Read up on the band "Badfinger" (on the beatles Apple Records)....they were making money hand over fist and never saw a dime of it

  • @Toastrman The really sad thing is that I believe Del eventually committed suicide, do you know if there is anything to that?

  • @TheEldoradoKid 1990, depression !!

  • Does anyone know-----are the Ronettes singing backup on this song? Kinda sounds like Ronnie Spector

  • Doubtful. But it's a good question as to who the back up singers are.

  • Comment removed

  • you must be smoking some great stuff!! Depression has been around almost since the beginning of recorded history. Some of us are damned and some aren't. I've come to the conclusion that it's virtually impossible to convey what depression is to those who don't suffer from it.

  • @TheReckonman

I just loved Shannon's arrangements. The twang in the guitars. Real rock and roll. thanks for sharing

  • that's awsome!

  • he had style

  • What a man! We sure enjoyed him when he came to the Surf Ballroom for the Buddy Holly concerts. I know we all miss him. Thank you for posting this vid! Mark

  • the late great DEL SHANNON what a megastar what mehahits , we lost him so young . so tragic. LITTLE TOWN FLIRT a classi of its own. Thanks DEl TOMKES doo wop/rocknroll historian

  • We had the best music of all time in 1959-1961. Darin.. Elvis... Richards... and so may others...

  • @Grifiki Every generation thinks their music is the best.

  • @BeachBumGTG not me my generation sucks there is no good msic in the mainstream you have to find good bandds from today on the internet instead of the radio

  • Proud you must be . to be a part and working with the great Del Shannon What memories you must have sir.

  • If you like this, search Crime Story Del Shannon...and listen to his great voice in that version in Runaway...miss you Del.......JB ECR '73

  • Anybody know anything about the backup vocalists on this record? What great, brassy harmonies!

  • Great song from a great artist. R.I.P.

  • regarding his suicide, he did have problems with alcohol, but basically, depression, was the end result,, i believe his widow, was taking action against the makers of Prozac, as being a contributing cause!, i saw him in concert only a few months before his death.i have a video of that concert. WOW!!

  • He also missed his high school sweetheart who divorced him.

  • DEL biggest problem beside depression was , he got screwed out of all his royalties and most of the money he made . he was getting pennies on a dollar whilr the record company made all the money , fact . i was sadden by his death .

  • Anyone ever hear any explanation as to why he took his own life - what a shame...

  • Oh gawd...I did'nt know he did that, and he was such a fantastic singer, I loved all his stuff...ever hear Runaway?

  • depression, was one of his problems plus he had major legal problems battleing the record companies that screwed him over , i guess the rest is history .... sad ......but he was great

  • @689321546

Buddy Holly had the same problem

Bobby Fuller Four was murdered by someone!

  • Todays Music [Really NOISE]... does have enough Cognitive Abilities to form MUSIC let alone the WORD to match...!

That is why they call it RAP!

    Thanks, Roger.

  • real great - why do they not reach to that level today ???

  • i know all the 60's songs cuz of my dad's always playing them as he loves the 60's the only music he likes and also i think it was the best music not like today where u cant hear what there singing

  • This song is beautiful and great. I Go to Pieces sung by Peter and Gordon is Del's composition and one of the truly great songs of all time. Del hurts are my hurts.

  • Gone too soon. This is one of his many great songs.

  • happy days

  • I think this is Del's greatest hit!

    Great! Great!

  • Great song and one of my favorites from Del. His first big hit was "Runaway", two years earlier in 1961. It was A #1 Billboards hit for 4 weeks." Little Town Flirt" only got as high as #12 on the Billboards charts. HATS OFF TO LARRY and KEEP SERCHIN'(WE'LL FOLLOW THE SUN) were Del's only other top 10's. Del died at the age of 55 in 1990. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame in 1999.

  • I loved Del Shannon. Its great to hear him again. Thanks to everyone who makes it possible
