would the 2010 model be a poor purchase right now? im gunna be running 3ds max, probably in boot camp. is it powerful enough for architectue programs?
I have the 2010 Macbook Air 11"/4GB RAM/128GB SSD - Two things it has going for it over the 2011 MBA is it has a better GPU (Geforce 320M) and it doesn't have the Thunderbolt port, so you can attach just about any monitor made on the planet. The Thunderbolt as of now has only one display that will work which is $1000. 2010 MBA is a couple of seconds slower but no biggie!
The i5 Sandy Bridge processor has had problems since day one - chances are the 2010 MBA will outlast the 2011 model easily!
@climbingarizona You know that mini display adapter fits in the thunderbolt port right? That means that you connect every single screen you want, if you just have the adapters for it.
@theunits3 dude, i need you to find me a macbook air 128 gb 2011 for 1100 dollars. thank you. and i also would like to know if heat is a problem at all.
For sure next year there will be another faster Macbook Air, =,= it's like same price but why buy now if you'll get better specs and model next uear?. And when next year comes try to wait for another year because it will be better than next year's model. probably by 2013 it's paperthin notebook.
Love your videos and really helped me make a decision.
Quick question though....
I bought a 2010 MBA and noticed when I used an external monitor it would cause it to have a weird screen flicker or fuzzy lines in the screen at random times. Have you seen this happen with the 2011 MBA?
Thanks again and keep up the amazing work brother.
Please note the first MacBook Air 2010 had a Toshiba SSD and the newer MacBook Air 2010 had a Samsung SSD, so I bet the new MacBook 2011 is using the Samsung SSD that is a touch faster than the first SSD that apple used and may be comparing Samsung v Toshiba, so can you please confirm what SSD these Airs are using.
this is simply not 2.5 times as faster. I'm watching on my MBA 11" 2010 thinking that the new 13" will smash the old MBA 13". but as far as the video goes the old MBA is working perfectly fast
I recall the Macbook Pro was about twice as fast as the old MBA, and the iMac a little faster, when exporting in iMovie. So, if this new MBA is twice as fast as the old one, is it as fast as the Macbook Pro? Close to the iMac perhaps?

While it does have a performance increase, you are giving the new one an advantage by having it plugged in and not the other. The CPU, motherboard, & OS, especially on the portable machines, are designed to throttle down the CPU to save energy and heat when unplugged. For example the fan is passive cooling when on battery while active cooling while plugged in.
Is it just me or does the new 2011 look like its more widescreen? I swear the screen dimensions look really different between the 2010 and 2011 based on your video.
I'm interested in seeing a Frames Per Second comparison with some benchmark between the Macbook 2011 and 2010. What has been gained or lost with the Intel Graphics card as compared to the Nvidia?

i just bought an 11 inch today as well! i did alot of researching about peoples use and opinion about both, and i have to say the 11.6 was a better choice, i reccomend anyone with this dilema to go for the 11.6 , i have like 20 hours of research on opinions and research
@ReLentlessCh1kn you can't expect things to be a light years faster, when something is already as fast as it is. what else can you do? Be happy that improvements are being made every year.
@cmpsrr Performance isn't affected at all by not being plugged in. They get as much juice either way, it's just a finite power source when on battery,
Sorry but I think you're wrong. When running on batteries, performance is affected since the goal is to make the battery last longer. I say that because the temperature drops like 5º or 7º and, when gaming, the games run slower.
will having one plugged in and the other not effect the performance? I know when playing games the performance is horrible if you try to run it on the battery
I wish I had the money to buy one, but I'm kinda happy that I don't, since my current laptop is still perfect for my needs, in terms of performance. Next laptop will so be a Mac though.
@jayry55 You can watch any video your heart desires on it. Personally, I wouldn't buy the HD iTunes videos, because they are more expensive, but if you want the higher quality, go for it.
